I think all y'all are wrong. P is impressed already otherwise he couldn't invite Dev. P asked how his production comes together. What better way to show how you did it. I get it.

not even trying to sound like a douche, but a lot of times in studio sessions and when people show music off it can be hard to react. i don't think either of them overreact because it has a lot of meaning. pharrell is a legend, and an artist who has worked with everyone. dev has worked with everyone, and been SO successful with blood orange. this is such a deep level of music conversation, just because there isn't EXCITEMENT doesn't mean there is any level of disrespect. i was blown away by this entire thing.

Like you, I’m consistently blown away by Dev and his achievements keeping him so unaffected. His level of success and list of legendary collaborations would make other artists ego maniacs. He’s a legitimately inspired, down to earth, humble creative and I can’t believe he can maintain this attitude over time. I can only hope he will remain steadfast in this vein! We deserve more of this type of artist! Devonté 4ever❤️

@@cultcustoms8342 I doubt Pharrell wasn't down with Dev bringing his keyboard and playing. Dev doesn't even usually do this, he's actually pretty shy about playing stuff randomly in public. I think Pharrel was just paying attention.

There's an heightened air of passive aggressiveness in the studio. Also, if you know a thing or two about music theory and Jazz, you'd understand that the "amazing chord changes" these guys are talking about, are quite standard, harmonic movement. It's lazy kids today. "I want everything now. For ME!". I don't think Pharrell, B. Orange _OR_ Tyler are anything exceptional in terms of harmony and composition. I find their stuff actually quite stale, and strictly tied to their own time. Antonio Carlos Jobim, as a young man, used to study the piano for hours, in Rio De Janeiro, in a dark room, while all the other kids were playing football just 200 meters across him, chatting to girls and enjoying leisure. He wouldn't be Jobim, he wouldn't be one of the greatest composers of the 20th century, if he hadn't made that conscious sacrifice. A beautiful sacrifice.
@Stupidlamb28 жыл бұрын
ANPHKI Partial agreement on you, but there should be just few Jobims for a long enought timeline, if only the fuss can be tolerated(as the fuss itself should also be tied to its own time), we can surely more than enjoy Blood Orange's music. At least it's good enough, compared to so many unhearable pieces out there...
@69mr-moon698 жыл бұрын
ANPHKI nah dude you have it wrong. You can study piano for as long as you want but if you're not putting yourself into every little chord change and enjoying every bit of it then you aren't really doing shit. I don't know the guy that you're referring to; but to say what these guys do is lesser, simply because they don't study music the way you think they should, is just ridiculous. It's completely contradictory to what music is all about. Find your own voice through whatever instrument(s) you choose, and truly express yourself through the music regardless of what other people's expectations are of you as a musician.
@ANPHKI8 жыл бұрын
JoshOfWales You have a pretty big hole to fill in your musical knowledge, if you aren't aware of someone like Antonio Carlos Jobim. It sort of makes one doubt slightly the legitimacy of your opinion there, kid. But yes, captain obvious is obvious. I did not say or state any ultimatums that you are referring there. Just stated my point of view. It's always people who are untrained in music that get butt hurt and start to voice out this insecurity of theirs in the form of this endlessly rehashed argument that you just perfectly reproduced here.
@69mr-moon698 жыл бұрын
ANPHKI you sad man. Did you enjoy formulating most of your reply attempting to make yourself feel superior? Nice sneaky little edits in both of the comments too. Grow up dude, music isn't as objective as you believe it to be you elitist fuck
@ANPHKI8 жыл бұрын
JoshOfWales You're a bit simple aren't ya there fella? Quit projecting your own insecurities and shortcomings into my comment. I never stated music to being some sort of an objective sport based on merit. Read it again, and then go look yourself at the mirror. It's merely that these guys aren't that special when it comes to harmonic movement, and Jazz. That's all. It's simplified pop music, and kiddo, not everyone likes the same stuff. To me, Brian Wilson did that stuff in an infinitely more sophisticated and beautiful manner. Sean O' Hagan is another one, who was able to fuse all these influences in a considerably higher manner. I adhere to composers that took the artform way further than these guys (Pharrell, B.O) do. But that's just me, you settle for 'lesser'. And it's all good. But quit being such and insecure whiny little baby and dig the stuff you dig.
