Meet powerhouse artist/activist Favianna Rodgriguez -- a leading voice in the movement of artists raising awareness about U.S. immigration issues. Favianna is a co-founder of both Presente.org and Culture Strike, two groups pushing back against the wave of anti-immigrant rhetoric and legislation that has recently swept the nation. Pulitzer Prize winning author Jose Antonio Vargas explains the ironies of anti-immigration hysteria in a country founded by immigrants. Favianna participates in a visual campaign using the Monarch Butterfly as a symbol of the beauty and dignity of migrants.

This three part series is fabulous! Art and activism is an effective combination that is able to reach people on a different level and moves them to take action. The problem is greed, exploitation and militarization.

This is a beautiful video! José Antonio Vargas is fucking hilarious! I know I shouldn't even be reading all the hate comments, but I just recommend that you re/listen to José A.V.'s piece about being stuck in the same conversation. People are buying all that scapegoating crap because they're restricted to seeing only through the blinders of the today's laws and refusing to see the US's role in this situation. Not all laws are just; that's the whole point!

These also brought me to tears and i am not cryer. I was very surprised. Why are people begging for their rights in the streets, risking deportation and separation from their families here in the land of the FREE?

Yes, immigration is just in one direction. As in coming "in". But migration is more about back and forth movement.

Art born out of the struggle for justice, equality, and against oppression is the most noble and important art one can involve oneself with. All the rest is fluff in my humble opinion.

People want to go where they can find work, which is not a bad thing.America's stuck in the same question, what are the economic agreement?Lou Dobbs said we cannot reform immigration ifwe cannot control immigration. the quote is right in a way because if immigrants are coming over regardless of the law,how can you change the immigration laws if you already have nocontrol of immigrants and their illegal presence already.TheU.S is very stuffed when it come to immigration laws unlike their countries.

It's worth researching the history of immigration laws. Yes, they are there for a reason, to keep out certain racial and ethnic groups -- also to make "illegal" immigration the only kind of viable migration option for certain groups, which helps to keep down wages and deny people their basic human rights.

It was legal to own people before! remember? I would add that im/migration is also painful as shit, though. I'm a 2nd gen. immigrant (--which feels ridiculous to say with roots that go hundreds of generations deep into this continent. before there were even "borders") and I witness and experience the pain of having to separate from your home and family. My mom suffered 18 years of not seeing her brothers and sisters in México because she wanted me to have a chance at not being as exploited.

There's a difference between migration and invasion. I for one, don't want to pay more taxes for their food, shelter, healthcare or anything else they feel "entitled" to.

Well I wouldn't say only Illegals do that. Many Americans do hit-and-runs. They just need to do things properly to ge their legal status. My grandpa did it.

they don't give it to them because they are un-documented. Many immigrants have became legal by working hard. Many Mexicans don't want to do the paperwork required. So in my opinion if they don't want to file the papers they do not get rights in America. I love the Mexican people, but if they want to be Americans they need to prove that they can abide by the laws that all Americans have too abide by.

Forgot about that dbag bellow me. I hate that the word hate is everywhere. Man this is like the Africans Americans vs the white Americans in 1950 - 1970. But worse with Latinos. I'm a Filipina and I agree that greed is the blame of this problem. But everybody is trying to get work so why doesn't America just get our jobs back and leave the other countries to do their own work.

meanwhile others get away with exploitation because outsourcing, NAFTA and making millions in profit is* legal--written into the constitution by the great land-(and some slave-owning) founding fathers. And the effects of colonization of collective trauma and the legacy through an economic system that only makes some wealthy because others (i.e. colonized countries, historically ) are poor are whited out of the discussions and HISstory books as reasons for all this.

And her nostalgia lives in me too. I don't think it's fair that some of us have to make the choice between home/moms/brothers/sisters and not starve. It's ridiculous! I don't think it's okay for some people to be criminalized for aiming for a better future by working exploiting jobs only because they aren't permitted* legal status (whoever thinks people are undocumented because they don't want to do the paper work--BULLSHIT)

I have a question. I'm all for immigration. It's what makes America the country that it is, but what I'm trying to understand is why illegal immigrants won't become citizens when they do get here. It may sound like a stupid question but I feel if you came all this way and plan to stay why not take the steps to become a citizen? My friend claims its because they don't want to pay taxes but I don't believe that's true.

I disagree with this video, this should be called "Illegal immigration is beautiful" because there would be no controversy on immigration laws if they did it legally. But the problem with this type of immigration has nothing to do with jobs, but it does raise poverty rates and which means even more money comes out of my check...but I think the way people talk about illegal immigrants is racist and no one deserves that type of treatment.
