Daphne never apologized for what she did. And worse: the show never makes it clear that what she did was wrong. On top of that, the show makes SIMON look bad. And to me, no matter how wrong he was for not telling the real reason, it's not even close to what Daphne did to him. And the lack of apology makes everything worse.

It was worse in the book. He was drunk and asleep when she realized she could take advantage of the situation to get pregnant. Her character’s inner monologue even uses words like power and control. He leaves her for two months, not because she raped him, but because he was so mad that he couldn’t get words out and he hated feeling that again. Of course, they make up and he apologizes to her for leaving. She acknowledges to herself that she took advantage of him and he tells her that he didn’t like what she did, but that’s it.

In the book he is literally so drunk that he can’t say her name right and is falling asleep when she decides to “take advantage of the situation” to try getting pregnant. I get that in that period, what she did wouldn’t have been viewed in the same light as it is today, but at the same time, the book itself was not written in that period and I feel like there should have been more to it than her thinking “Oh, wait, I didn’t just take advantage of the situation, I took advantage of him! Oh, no!’ … especially when any remorse she might have felt pretty much flies out the window the second she thinks she’s pregnant.

Well, basically the reason why they had the baby this season was because each season is a book. First season was the book: The Duke And I - Daphne & Simon Next will be: The Viscount That Loved Me - Anthony & Kate An Offer From A Gentleman - Benedict & Sophie Romancing Mister Bridgerton - Colin & Penelope To Sir Phillip With Love - Eloise & Phillip When He Was Wicked - Francesca & Michael It's In His Kiss - Hyacinth & Gareth On The Way To The Wedding - Gregory and Lucy And that's all of the Bridgertons and each should be a season.

Yeah it was definitely r***. Imagine if the roles were reversed. Daphne didn’t want kids, but Simon held her down and came inside. That’s awful. I liked Daphne, but the fact that she never apologized for that betrayal is unforgivable.

I think that the fact that they glossed over the r*** may be a reflection of the time this is in, but it could also be flipping the script or giving an example of r*** that some people may not consider r*** so that we are now having the discussion about it now outside of the show because it has been ingrained in our society that r*** cannot happen within a marriage. This is a perfect example of that not being true.

Hey Sean, idk if you got the full reason since you watched the show out of context. But the reason Simon didn’t want to have children isn’t because he didn’t want his wife to die, it was because since his father treated him and his mother poorly, Simon didn’t want to give his father an heir to Hastings (idk the city they own or whatever) so that the Hastings family blood line would die with Simon and that no one else from his family could be in-charge of Hastings. I HOPE THAT MAKES SENSE!!! 😅 it shows in a scene Simon telling his father, who is on his deathbed, that Simon vowed to not have children. I don’t think the scene was in any of the episodes that you watched for KZbin so yeah. The controversial sex scene in the book is worse, they fight he leaves and returns drunk and she rapes him in his sleep he semi-conscious when he realizes what’s going on. The problem with the whole thing giving the time, 1813, the book explains it as, something Daphne had to do to take control, if man could do it then so could she. Netflix missed up by not putting a warning. And apparently there’s going to be 8 seasons every season is based on a bridgerton child. That’s why it moves everything happens so quickly; next season its Anthony’s turn.

So the birth scene is from the epilogue of the book and is set in the future. She will actually be pregnant during season 2/book 2. Also, they have content for 8 seasons. 1 for each bridgerton child. The truth about pen being whistledown will be revealed in book 4/season 4 when pen is 28 years old. She is 16 here. Also, the person marina married will be brought back and he is not as old as they show him here in the books. He is say a year older than colin in the books.

I guess it bases on the time period, people didnt really know what consent was, if you were married then you HAD to have sex with your husband whenever he wanted, women were basically raped if they didnt say yes, and i guess that´s the reason nobody would have seen what Daphne did as rape. I guess it would have been good for them to know these things but unfortunaly that´s the way things were. Simila to Game of Thrones were women were explicitly shown being raped as if it was normal because it was in the context of the series. On the other hand, having a child in your marriage was a big deal, people were seen as failures if they didnt have children so it makes sense that Daphne reacted the way she did. It sucks but its accurate

Daphne was very wrong. Having said that I don't think it was rape, in the books and show they both wanted sex, he encouraged her the entire time. He just didn't want to finish, she took away his choice at the last moment like he took away hers every time he pulled out. To be clear what she did was very wrong but I feel like people are being incredibly harsh on her and it's not all earned. He never properly communicated with her and used her ignorance to his advantage like she used his weakness to hers. They are both flawed characters. To be clear if genders were reversed I would feel the exact same way.

@@dominikas6939 She tried to leave several times he forced her to stay. Again very wrong but it didn't seem like rape at least not to me. Rape is an act of violence and force. In the show he clearly could have stopped her, he's stronger and she weighs 5 lbs. In the books he was actively telling her what to do even though he was drunk. Again wrong, but it doesn't rise to rape, this is just my opinion everyone has their own.

It is not always overtly violent and no one has the right to manipulate a sexual situation period. It doesn't matter how physically strong the person on the other side is. People can be sexually assaulted by someone physically weaker than they are and it happens in real life. Not trying to come at you. It's just really annoying that Shonda and the writers signed off on this. It was a lazy, problematic plot device in the books and it's really disappointing that they didn't omit it in the show or have meaningful dialogue about consent at the very least.

I would never presume to tell a victim of sexual assault that there experience didn't rise to that level. We are talking about fictional characters in a book/show. Frankly I think the entire encounter was meant to represent the dangers of not communicating. The fact that they didn't talk about it in the book or show illustrates that for me. To be clear 2 wrongs don't make a right, they were both wrong. Daphne more so, but in my view I wouldn't call this rape. I would call it betrayal and manipulation but thats just me.

I know you’re missing some context, but Penelope’s family lives directly across Colin’s family, they are childhood friends. And Eloise is her best friend. Her feelings for Colin aside, she doesn’t want this happening to him because she cares for him and his happiness. Colin is sweet and sensitive and actually believes in love and wants a love match for himself, Penelope knows Marina doesn’t love him and that’s part of the reason why she was trying to persuade her not to trap him.

And then blamed him for it and then violated his trust in the end by reading his letters and then made a whole speech about not caring about how “broken” he is. apparently the r*pe scene is even worse in the book. it's honestly flooring though that the show doesn't frame what Daphne did as reprehensible - they don't celebrate her choice exactly but they don't condemn it either, they frame it almost like she's justified and she was putting them on equal footing. and it's pretty sickening and doesn't send a great message, especially since a lot of people don't KNOW that revoking a birth control method without a partner's consent is assault, and that people generally don't take assaults on men by women seriously. really disappointing.

So just letting you know, each season is going to feature a different sibling and their love story. I love the concept. And the duke hates his father and doesn’t want children because his father only cared if it was a boy and gave no fucks that his wife died. And when he realized that his son couldn’t speak in the beginning he abandoned him and never loved him. He just kicked his 5 year old child out and that was that.
