That was John's very first hit in 1967. He was 18 and its been a joke to get him to sing it at concerts ever since. Thanks guys ❤❤

Sadie The Cleaning Lady was a pop song of its era. John was 18 in 1967, and was the pop idol of the day in Australia When John sang this at concerts and events in later years the arrangements were more up to date, and he belted it out- it's still a very catchy tune. Help - - Watch John singing this at the end of his 2 hour plus concert with The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra - - it's just mind blowing. There is also a version on youtube of John singing it in the same tempo as the original Beatles. Mch'24 . UK. E ❤

@@EileenSpeakman @user-iq3mp5zo8z Hi Eileen. I've just finished watching Finding the Voice on TV. I have tears rolling down my face. It's just amazing how his fans just feel like part of his family and really feel the pain of what he went through in the early days but also the absolute joy of how he came back from the brink and has blown us away ever since ❤️ 💙 ♥️ 💖

Anthony is Opera trained and our number one stage musical star. He is also as kind as John and Olivia. John and Olivia toured with this concert for 3 months to get Anthony back out there after some really rough cancer treatment. I know people after seeing this concert who booked two or three more shows. The Main Event Concert is on KZbin. They are friends and all really good people. Thank you.

Please do both of those Aussie legends singing Granada at the same concert. It shows also John's range, as he can sing opera too 🙏👌🥰

John’s first appearance on television was on a show called Bandstand compared by Brian Henderson singing Sadie the cleaning lady. His first hit he was only 17 and has been trying to live down ever since. He was so cute

The way John rearranged this was by sitting at his piano and playing his own version and he calls it "his party trick" LOL! He has played it at concerts as well. I'll send you one of them to look at soon. 🥰

Help was a staple at his concerts. Stevie the saxophonist and John are great mates and he started with John in 1986 and never left him and they have a very similar sense of humour. 😂 Did you hear John's run just after Anthony joined him 😳 Absolutely amazing talented performers. In this concert John did rock, pop, duets and trios, Ballard's, jazz, swing, opera and comedy. And those notes and runs 🤣

Made an error. Mark Dennison was his first sax player and Steve joined the band in 1990 when the album Chain Reaction was released and Steve is one of the best harmonica players you will ever hear on the main song Chain Reaction. 😍

"Sadie (The Cleaning Lady)" was John Farnham's first solo single]The novelty song was released in November 1967 and was No. 1 on the Go-Set National Singles Charts for five weeks in early 1968 It was the largest-selling single in Australia by an Australian artist in the 1960s.

John first hit song was "Sadie". John is always asked for this, he jokes at each concert when they call out for it, that he won't do it, but generally gives in. The public liked these "novelty songs" during the sixties, for example:- "The Unicorn Song" by the Irish Rovers 1962, "Puff, the Magic Dragon" by Peter, Paul and Mary 1963, "Little White Bull" by Tommy Steele 1966, and even the Beatles got onboard with "Yellow Submarine" in 1966. "Sadie, the Cleaning Lady" 1967 was the start to the Farnham story. It hit No. 1 on the Australian singles charts in January 1968 and remained there for 6 weeks. Selling 180,000 copies in Australia, "Sadie" was the highest-selling single by an Australian artist of the decade and became the biggest-selling single in Australia at that time. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4vIg6Cmq6ide9mI His next single was a cover of Harry Nilsson's "One", Farnham's version peaked at #4 in 1968 kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2GZmXWZd9Vripo "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head", became his second No. 1 hit in December 1969 and remained at top spot for seven weeks into January 1970. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpfQop-qg66dnNk[ Farnham was crowned 'King of Pop' five consecutive times from 1969 to 1973. John is the only Australian artist to have a number-one record (album or single) in five consecutive decades.

I was at that concert and it was amazing. Have you done Anthony Warlow singing Music of the night? He was our original Phantom of the Opera. I don’t think anyone sings it like him. Sadie, the cleaning lady was John‘s first big hit. These days I think he tries to forget about it.😂

Just rewatching some reactions and so many people comment on where's John's mic is, (researching for Part 6 of Johnny to John), but it's not only that - but there is also no way John would be able to lip-sync or mime, because besides forgetting lyrics "some"times, he adlibs far too much. LOL!! 🤣 And watching this once again, Paul, you would now understand the joke about Sadie 😍🤩

Oh dear. We have reached that point where we need to educate you about "Johnny Farnhams" first big hit. He was just 18 years old when his manager convinced him to record the very Novelty song called Sadie the Cleaning Lady. It was the song that introduced John to Australian audiences. Fortunately for him, even though the song is now considered cringworthy by many, it was the biggest hit of the 60's decade in Aus. It led to him becoming the King of Pop for 5 consecutive years during the 60's and 70's. With many more hits for him to follow during that time as well. But unfortunately also led to his down fall for a period through the mid 70's to mid 80's. During this time, he didn't get much input into what he sang and even though he had that golden voice no one gave him much credibility as a serious singer. Fortunately, after a stint in the Little River Band during the early 80's ...and with the support of his best mate, Glenn Wheatly, (who mortgaged his house to help John create the Whispering Jack album) John was finally able to write and choose the sort of music that he always wanted to be able to do. Glenn became John's manager and in over 30 years together, they never had a formal agreement in place. John said, Glenn put his money where my mouth is. Their freindship/partnership is as legendary as John voice is. This is Sadie the Cleaning Ladie from 1967 m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4vIg6Cmq6ide9k And singing it in 1990's m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6K9aXSjn5ylaNk

Hi, thanks for this. Australians pronounce Aussie as Ozzie, not Ossie.
@barnowl.9 ай бұрын
Yet we pronounce Australia as AuStralia ! I've had this discussion about projecting out Auss/zzie pronunciation onto non-Australian people before ! DON"T DO IT !
@Bellas17179 ай бұрын
@@barnowl. Yes, with me. But you are coming from a singular personal bias because it annoys you when people pronounce the ss in your name as zz. That in itself shows that zz is the usual pronunciation of Aussie. Check Google - the Australian and Brit pronounciation of Aussie is Oz-ee, the American approximates to aa-see. There are many words with a single s in the name that we shorten with a zz sound: Brisbane - Brizzie, costume - cozzie, mosquito - mozzie, and with many words with rr that we replace with zz: Barry - Bazza, Karen - Kazza, Sharon - Shazza, etc. I understand your personal frustration, but zz is usual Australian speak.
