Care to breakdown the numbers? 3 million are off ill. That is a lot you may think, but it is consistent with other nations. So perhaps it is valid. Then we have a large number who should be in work, but we have no answer for them. To get inactivity down government needs to look at childcare, transport and address NHS waiting lists. If you were to work in a lower paying job then you can't afford childcare and transport. This broad statement you made is unhelpful. It is just using slogans. I agree we need to get more into work. But how? I will tell you just telling them that they are wasters is not working.

I have a mate who has just got a job ..... technical selling for the medical industry. £40k a year... has to put his two young boys in childcare costing £1500 a month Mortgage £1200 and £300 council tax a month. His wife has a job ..... less money. Pennies left if they are lucky at the end of the month .

@@charley998 There is a huge disparity in what people earn at the top, middle and lower levels. The middle income level has been squeezed since 2008. There is a House of Commons report "Income inequality in the UK" issued April this year. It shows that we have had a continuing and growing disparity between the top level and the rest. Blaming those who may not be active is not the problem, but look at why CEO make more times the average wage than they did in the decades since the war. Why? That is one of our key issues. Ironically, in societies where income disparity is tackled the overall economies grow. Give a rich man a £10,000 and they might use it to buy ceramic brakes on their Porsche (imported). Give £10,000 to anyone else and they use it locally in our economy.

I take my own pillow from Australia to the Uk, it is the best on a long haul flight (is nearly the only thing in my hand luggage) everyone looks jealous when I get it out!
