Live performance and interviews from legend, wit and diamond geezer Ian Dury. I found this in the annals of my hard drive. I doubt it will ever be shown again and it'd be a shame if it disappeared completely, so here you go. Enjoy.
If someone fancies doing a track list for this with times they will have my warmest regards.
Obligatory disclaimer
I don't own this. I don't know who does, and I wouldn't be surprised if the original didn't exist any more. So let's keep this one online please.

As an artist Ian Dury is second to none, totally agree with you about not being appreciated for the lyrical genius he was, it’s interesting listening to Suggs and , Lee Thompson of Madness talk about how much of an influence Ian was on their music , though at first Ian felt they were just ripping him off over time he gradually grew to like what they were about and collaborated on a few tunes. Have you heard any records of Ian’s son Baxter? ( he’s the young boy pictured on the album new boots an panties) well worth listening to.

Saw them on many, many occasions and never ever got enough of Ian and the amazing Blockheads, the tightest band I had ever seen. They were truly fortunate not to have stayed ultra famous because they would have lost the magic that made them the most iconic band of their era. Their gift to the world of music is astounding and much appreciated by those that had ears to hear them and feed on the feel good factor they always delivered. Ian grabbed life with both hands and his zest for it rubbed off on all of his devoted fans!

I met Norman by chance quite a few years ago when I was about 19 and playing rhythm guitar in some terrible north London band. I had a couple of beers with him and as a fan does, I was regaling him with my admiration for the bass run of Rhythm Stick. He said to me 'Actually it's very easy'. I said 'really?' and he replied 'Is it fuck'. :)

I'm 54, I grew up listening to this wonderful concoction of life, funk, punk and jazz and managed to see him live twice towards the end of his life. His toys, his playfulness, his cheeky grin and twinkly eyes stood in front of the tightest damn band I ever saw. It's a cold February evening as I type this but this has brought a huge smile to my face, thanks CoL for doing that.

I've seen Ian and the Blockheads many times, and now go to see the Blockheads at every opportunity. They are still touring and just as tight as ever. If not more so. Big bonus is that many gigs are in small local venues and you can have a drink with the band after the gig. Buying Norman and Chaz a drink was one of my best moments of 2017!

The Blockheads always seem like really decent humble guys. I'm fascinated with Davey Payne, did you ever get to meet him? I wonder is he very misunderstood because of this persona with a volatile temper who went around punching anyone who was annoying him (often Ian). I've read interviews with him where he's really gone to great lengths to be friendly and approachable and very in-depth about his own story.
@adentonmiller
@adentonmiller 3 жыл бұрын
@@speakertreatz I've never met him. I don't think he's played with the band for quite a long time. Normally it's Chaz, Norman and Derek in the bar after shows.
@speakertreatz
@speakertreatz 3 жыл бұрын
@@adentonmiller These days, I think it's limited to if they're playing in a local pub in his area he'll get onstage for a while with them. I don't know much about Derek musically, more about his role as Ian's minder, but the other two I'd love to meet, they seem very down to earth for such huge music talents.

One of my biggest regrets is not going to see Ian, I still feel sad for his passing. Some people have some awful song as their first; however mine was "hit me with your rhythm stick" and "aint half been some clever bastards" on B side (which I was told not to listen to by my mum) on Stiff records. Thanks a lot Dad. I'm 42 now and still love the Blockheads. thank you for this upload mate.
