One of the greatest poets and wordsmith as well as front man extraordinaire, the late, great Ian Dury. The Blockheads were a killer band who are often over looked and under rated.
@Parseenfroo
@Parseenfroo 3 жыл бұрын
Maybe under rated by some, but not by the great Trevor Horn who produced Relax by Frankie Goes To Hollywood, when that band failed to deliver the goods, he used The Blockheads on the track instead, a wise move in my opinion.

These guys continue to be in my hero list; though I found them when turning 16 and now I'm 61! Charlie and Norman, what a clever rhythm team! Chaz, whatta whatta; very impressed by his guitar playing and arrangements! And Mickey and John and "my name is Davey", and Wilco the unbeatable. Everytime I hear this music I spot more things to be amazed about; the sheer fun musicianship. (I don't mention Ian here, he's everything). And... this is the band that with total conviction could play like anything rock, punk and funk and soul!

I saw them on the Stiff tour in Colchester, Essex, right around then. At the front in the middle of the dancing crowd. Still one of the best gigs I've ever seen. Spent the afternoon playing pinball and drinking with two blokes (not Charlie Charles or Ian) who only introduced themselves as "Blockheads", in the Student Union Bar with my mate Gordon. Can't remember which two it was, but the roadies were busy setting up.
