I remember hearing this song for the first time over 40 years ago when I bought the Welcome to the Club LP. I had thought Ian Hunter was just another cool rocker. I realized at that moment there was much more. What a beautiful, timeless song.

Honest, unique in style and approach, the very definition of cool but without the trappings of pretentiousness, egotism and conceit. Mott told such great stories paired with musical swagger that drew you in magnetically. I had the honor of playing this song years ago and it never failed to win the affection of even the hardest rock and roll hearts in an audience. It's a gem in the crown of an album everybody should own.

When they first met. Ian asked Mick to do string arrangments for one of his songs, don't remember the exact name, and Ian asked how much it would cost. Mick said 20 quid. Did the arrangements on a pack of cigarettes. " Think he never got paid." - Ian Hunter
@FxkDGM5 жыл бұрын
@wildcatter63 I'm pretty sure the Rebel rebel riff was written by Bowie. At that point Mick and the spiders weren't making any money. Just getting screwed over by Bowie's management. Mick even later on didn't do too great with his money. Ian once said:" If you were short on money, sit down and play cards with Mick". He didn't care about no paperwork, he just wanted to play. He'd meet someone at the bar the next day he'd be producing for them, no deal. His manager was like: " Ring me first before you do it".
