So great when a guitar player doesn't get carried away shredding but rather plays with soul and that tone is just perfect!

Mick could turn in on at any time though. His days with Bowie surely had those shredding times. Here he comfortable and so relaxed.

Ian Hunter with Mick Ronson opened for Heart at Cobo Hall in Detroit in 1980. The consensus at my high school after the show was that Ian blew heart off the stage. It was a helluva show back then and I enjoyed every minute of it. I cannot hear any of Ian’s songs without being transported back to how I felt after seeing him live then. I am so glad to come across this footage of him and the band from back then!

I was there, too. I agree that Heart seemed to just be going thru the paces. But I was there to see Ian , and he put on a great show! Hard to believe he's got a new album coming out at the age of 82.

Thank you very much! I was the drummer with ian Hunter on that tour with heart (and I'm in this video- mad they didn't have my floor tom mics on but we had a fun show in Essen germany @. Rockpalast..) Yeah glad they captured this band. We were really good friends and all close from working non stop. Mick and I both lived up here in Woodstock so we'd often hang out after the tours and record a bunch. Cheers!

The simple fact that you can identify Mick Ronson by the tone he generates from his guitar is a signature trait of any great guitarist. Page, Beck, May and Knoppfler come to mind. I just know what I like, as for the accolades, I leave that to others. You hone your craft and do your best with what God gave you to begin with.

I saw this band perform on a Rock show late at night on TV in upstate, NY, USA, when my folks were away; in a small town called, Amsterdam. This would have been turned off for Johnny Carson or whoever else was on the tube at the same time on a Friday night. I was too young to go anywhere and Fridays, I was lucky to have the tv to myself for a little while. They played only one song. But it was a great song that I looked for it in the record store. It did not come out for a long time, and I wanted to hear more music like that. That station showed me a band that traveled to another country to play music. How amazing is that? It inspired me to play, but my career choice led me down another path. I love the piano man's energy and the lead singer's comments about the show. "I am ...and I just shared one hour of my life". I am Mikolis Sargalis and I just shared a memory with you. Enjoy more.

My hometown was not scheduled on Ian's "Rant" tour, as it's midsized and in the midwest. But, when he discovered that he sold more copies of his new record here than anywhere else in the US, he squeezed us in and put on one of the best shows I've ever seen in a venue that holds about 250 people. He probably didn't make bank that night and that just shows his loyalty to his fans and our love for him. Thanks, Ian!! RIP, Mick.

Mick Ronson is a great tonic and antidote to KZbin guitarists hyper-shredding solo, or over-indulging in chops monster exhibitions to pre-recorded tracks, as Ronson shows how it's done, playing for the song with melodic economy and technique that displays a quality of listening, as opposed to the now ubiquitous attention-seeking-missile spotlight-hogging note-barrage approach a million misguided guitarists are repeating ad infinitum. Ronson came into the music business on the tail end of glam rock but never submerged himself in fashions or trends. His playing in perennially refreshing.

Mick Ronson can hold the bottom down better than most bass players, such a groove and sound.
