anthony hopkins was awe-inspiring. It's heart breaking to see his monumental ego shatter time and time again and it made me connect to him more than in any other role i've seen him. His death felt like a real loss.

This is the geriatric versions of the 1983 movie starring finney and courtenay. Albert Finney's towering performance will never be eclipsed...Tom Courtenay's award winning performance will be hard for McKellan to top as well.

Well said, haha. I admire both Hopkins and McKellan but this remake falls flat compared to Yates film. I never saw the play though but Finney really brought the suffering and despair of Sir to the screen and made it believable and Courtenay was equally impressive as Norman in displaying their symbiotic relationship and how their fate was tied together unless he found the strength to break free himself or as it happened fate dealt the cards and finally change dthe course of the direction of Normans life. Hopkins performance just wasn't that convincing and paled in many regards and McKellan was also kinda low-key. Ed Fox shined and was solid imo. I guess it's time to watch Finney's "The Dresser" again the coming weekend.

They should have played this over the top..Anthony could have made it what it should be. Ian should have been much more fem. Anthony should have been much louder and madder. The younger actors should look at them as spectacles and not respected. I need to be a director.
