After a lifetime of yoga, ballet, skating my hips have arthritis. I’m hoping when Ian says this can help arthritic joints he means people that already have it. I thought this small class was concise, not boring and I think I am going to learn more about it. With gratitude, Dawn

The movement is so good for identifying where we have restriction and showing how to work on it. May I suggest you look into Buteyko Breathing? Your message and intention of ending in parasympathetic is right on, however, I think that the forceful exhale and intentional holding the breath keeps us in the sympathetic. Thanks!
@IanMarkow4 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for taking class and the recommendation! Finding relaxation and control with a breath hold is one of the ultimate displays of the parasympathetic state. Think about less breathing (not hyper ventilating) as calming down. To go from forceful exhale to breath hold is a tough challenge of finding parasympathetic. Ian, you seem to be engaging/straightening the arms & gripping the fists during the beginning of the warm-up. Is this intentional/important?
@IanMarkow3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the great question Ruby. This is based off of sherringtons law of irradiation. Basically we use total body tension to lock joints into place to control the only one or group that we want. For example, neck moves but nothing else. Higher levels of tension would represent a higher training stimulus and lower levels would be more in line with a warm up. Feel free to ease into it and know we never want any irradiation through the jaw in class.

I have L5 S1 extrusion, and I want to improve my hip mobility. Are these exercises safe in my condition?
@IanMarkow3 жыл бұрын
Hey Sandhya, there is no way of knowing without assessing you. It’s always a great idea to consult with your doctor and physical therapist before starting an exercise plan.
@mailsandymurali3 жыл бұрын
I tried the routine. It was difficult. And on my own its difficult to assess my hip rotation range. What I felt was if I do it from a sitting position it compromises my L5 S1 extrusion and after wards I had to spend some time to decompress it to prevent inflammation. But I felt some difference in my hip socket anyways, which indicates I need that mobility training along with my injury rehab before finding steps to strengthen. So I need to find some other position which doesn't compress my lumbo pelvic joint. Am I right?
@IanMarkow3 жыл бұрын
@@mailsandymurali similar answer. There is really no way of knowing. Its easy to be honest instead of guess. This class is meant to challenge and expose deficits. Our pelvic magic intro is a way better entry point if you feel limited in hip mobility. Always a good idea to ask your physical therapist or who ever assessed you last.
@mailsandymurali3 жыл бұрын
@@IanMarkow will try the pelvic magic video for sure👍🏽. Thank you. As far as the therapy is concerned I am managing my rehab on my own. I was a Pilates instructor for 3 years which helps me to understand things in my body. And all the medical professionals I approached had a very myopic view when it came to assessment and diagnosis. Since last one year I have been learning from PRI podcasts and to an extent I have been successful. Unfortunately we don't have PRI professionals in India.

Nice information. But I believe it's available at a fraction of the price on other providers. I believe kit Laughlin is a nice ressource for example. Seems like a lot covered here is also covered there. Also, once you understand the principles, you can create everything you need. Kit is very good at providing you the principles along with the method. I am not sponsored, I just happen to know kit's work years ago and stumbled on kinstretch. Thought maybe something new and 'revolutionary' but I don't see that or maybe I am missing something.
@IanMarkow4 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for watching. I am familiar with Kits Work. Similar to his work I think it’s pretty unrealistic to make that judgement off of a sample class or even a KZbin channel. I am glad you have found success with Kit and invite you to try the program in order to have a significant understanding of what we do. The program is extremely detailed and goes far beyond what you will find on the internet as free. Feel free to reach out with any questions you have and enjoy your day.

@@IanMarkow Hello Ian, Thanks for answering :) I am indeed curious to see what Kinstretch has to offer given your anwer. I was a bit provocative to see what you would answer. The main objective of Kinstretch is admirable : getting people ready to train and perform without injuries is paramount. I have years of sport under my belt and have suffered a lot of different injuries over the years. I have therefore browsed a lot of different ressources (books, seminars, workshops, youtube, ...) to increase my knowledge of training methodology and avoid injuries and be able to enjoy training until I am 60yo+. I therefore already know (I believe) a fair amount of principles regarding training, stretching & mobility. Altough even with all of this, I still have flaws in my body. Be sure I will give it a shot :)
