As someone who has been a light main for the entirety of the game and has been D1+ all seasons I can give you a load out that works really well for me. Dash, Thermal Bore, Sonar Grenades, Thermal Vision. Dash is to support a very run and gun play style and increase the already high mobility you have. Thermal Bore has so much utility. Moving cash out locations, creating unique openings, removing goo walls (it catches them on fire and destroys them). Sonar speaks for itself but being able to provide constant information to your team allows you to become a very strong IGL. Thermal Vision was a must have in TA because of the scourge on cloaked Lights (seriously if you use cloaking, you’re a scumbag that can’t win your 1’s) but it’s carried over to my setup for Season 4. It’s very nice to be able to confidently take a 1 with a team’s cloaked light, which will keep your medium and heavy’s from getting isolated and picked off. Also, with all of the constant vision obscurities that come with awesome destruction mechanics of the game, i.e. gas, fire, dust or even dimmer lit areas and map variants, you are still able to maintain clear vision through all of it which often leads to having the upper hand in a fight. Note that there is a bug that doesn’t allow you to see cloaked lights against the sky, which is extremely frustrating. It was a long winded explanation but I wanted to be thorough lol.

Running cloak is fine, if you can't spot a cloaked light and if you can't judge where they are based on the sound of the ability, then I dont know tbh because I dont find I have that issue. Light is still viable but still I find it pretty useless in this season unless you're an insanely good light player. Hardly any lights at high elo, so I think running thermal vision here is a waste unless youre pairing it with smoke nades yourself (dont condone). Your point about dim areas, do you have your lighting setting set to dynamic? If so I recommend turning up your brightness a little and switching the option to static as I never feel the need to run thermal vision because of dim areas (I dont have any). Everyone is different but in my stack at least, theres no room for light. We play 1 heavy winch with KS-23 for map destruction and manipulating cashouts insanely well (does a better job than thermal bore I believe) then I play demat with model, allows me to open spaces and close them for cheeky kills rather than just blasting a hole in a wall that I cant close. And our final guy runs healer and rotates weapons depending on enemy team. Light wouldnt work for us, but as I said some teams definitely make it work. For reference, me and my heavy are top 150 this season.

@@paskyy9527 it’s not the cloaked in practice that’s disgusting it’s the principle, your mindset is “I want to shoot someone while they can’t see me”. I want every medium and heavy to look me in the eyes when I clip them lol. And yes, all of your points are valid. All other classes can pretty much do what I’m trying to do but better. Y’all are playing easy mode while I’m playing hardcore. As far as the dimly lit areas, that was the least applicable use for thermal. All of the other examples are much more valid reasons. The main reason I can make this setup work is because yes, I am an insanely good light player lol. There’s no gimmicks to my play style, just raw gunplay with a kit that allows me to always find a way to keep fighting.

Just so we are sure try playing a loadput that isnt this, something that shouldn't work. And see how you don't end up going down in ranks because these metas and everything as much as they matter in getting slightly higher ranked aren't anything that really matters. I won't go from bronze to gold if I start using this load out. Nor would I derank from plat to silver if I stopped playing this.

@@abhishekak9619 I’m confused on if you’re talking to the other guy, the content creator, or me lol. I don’t run a meta load out. I don’t even use a meta gun. If I wanted to keep top 500 this season, I’d run triple Medium or MMH. The meta in this game dictates the huge majority of placements. Unless you’re a very talented player; which means you have a deep understanding of the game, the mechanics, and great game sense and aim, you’ll be a slave to the meta.

dash with throwing knives + smoke + thermal vision + tracking dart is such a fun way to play the game. certainly not viable in high elo, just throwing that out there to any light players who want to mess around and have some fun. it's currently my favorite way to play light

I've run this build. Its hilariously OP in low elo. The downfall is that it is very situational. Popping smokes and initiating your thermal vision takes time that you don't always have. gotta plan ahead, also smoke is difficult to see in thermal vision so you have to be very aware of where you are in relation to your smokes. If an enemy light is running proximity sensors your entire build is kind of useless also.

banger as per usual, I wanna yap a bit as a 350hr light main (about to hit plat 4 soloQ). I really haven't been vibing with lh1 this season, mostly from getting rolled by pike, and I've never been consistent enough with it close range. m11 I've never liked, just the fire rate and recoil feel annoying for me, despite the red dot still existing. I've picked up the SH1900 for the first time since season 1 and really enjoyed learning it which is nice. I still run xp54 since I just love the feeling of it, shame it's been nerfed pretty hard, I just have had to prioritise getting solid damage in without necessarily getting a kill for it (Also the newest skin for it is CLEAN GO CHECK IT OUT)

A build I’ve been trying to get better with is SH19 , dash or grapple depending on the map , and I like running thermal vision and smoke . I know it’s kinda of a ratty play style , but with the meta being as it is nowadays I like to try different things. I’ve been having fun with it. Obviously it’s not great at all but I like using the off meta utilities

My only question is how is the breach charge more viable than the thermal bore ? Thermal bore has so much versatility and range. Its also a great way to counter an enemy sniper, if it lands correctly it can completely disrupt your opponents view with the sparks and if they are dumb enough to stand there it can do decent damage or land you a kill. I think its particularly good on certain stages mainly the earlier stages not so useful on kyoto however

I personally belive light is in a very good spot. In my opinion, if they disable the dash with sword/knive heavy attack, tweak down the pike a little and decrease the models range by a bit we would be in a very good balance. Still light wont be in the meta, but it wont be because light is weak but because of survivability. After a certain point, whith how accurate the player at higher elo become, no ammount of dash can save you and most players just choose HP over damage. If they increase lights dps output, they would just kill the casual player base, since casual lobbies are filled with lights, its an epidemic down here.

The XP nerf was not the only viable light weapon. I see way too many lights using the M11 and getting more kills than anyone in the lobby. The XP nerf definitely makes the weapon perform worse but now that they have sights, M11 is a very high pick rate.

I hate the fckin sniper nerf the most out of anything. Sniper was only good in 2 useless game modes and could be countered and required skill to actually use. If anything they should’ve nerfed the range of the falloff damage, not the hitscan. But the weapon was still mid before and now is worse than ever, if they were gonna nerf it into a projectile at a certain distance, then they should at least increase the fire rate a lil bit to remedy it, cuz it’s hard asf to use up close against meds and heavies.

Hot take but I low-key like sniper alot more. Am a lot more accurate and been able to win a lot of up close fights as well as far fights. Maybe it's bc the hitscan was bad on the sniper for me😂 I really didn't like it. But I do get where you are coming from and it would be nice if sniper just got a overhaul and then stay in whatever direction they take the sniper in. But at the same time they are working on slowly balancing all classes to be more equal as the same distances.( I say this bc pike and deagle bring a lot of range to both while the light with multiple range options now got a new up close option. @@porterogden6065I’ve seen very few snipers in cashout since the game began. If you get to higher elo there are maybe 3-5 players in NA and they do just fine plying with their team. People who don’t play it right will stay at a lower rank just like other players who would stay there on other classes. The reason it got nerfed was TA and Powershift. TA it was strong and in powershift people don’t want to change the way they are playing and complain about getting sniped. Having the sniper light could help deter all the pikes ;).

Personally I would choose it over bore because it has the ability to stay idle until you want to detonate it. An example would be to stop a steal like with heavy’s c4. In my eyes the thermal bore is good for attacking while breach charge is better for both attacking and defending. It’s all up to preference anyways.
