i assume you're referring to a cost-reduction competition, which is pretty typical fare. that doesn't mean that Oshkosh's product is over budget.

Most capable vehicle performing “Light vehicle” missions the Army / USMC has EVER had. The report mentioned is OLD NEWS today; who CARES about minor problems from 2 years ago that were quickly solved, The Big Fixes were - hold your breath - adding a muffler, adding a front facing camera, and some other trivial item. JLTV can run circles around ANY HMMWV; the original HMMWV or the current up-armored ones. Circles, big or small, with a 3,500 pound payload (4-door) or a 5,100 pound payload (2-door). JLTV is built for the current conflicts - AND for the future. Anywhere in the world. It has 10Kw onboard power - and 10Kw exportable power, and is fully NET-ready. Superior protection, superior reliability, superior performance all around. Transportable by C130, C17, C5, CH47, CH53, and airdrop certified. Designed and tested to mount TOW, M2, M240, & M249. 30MM have been added as a proof of principle.

Mixed fleet if the 2nd contract goes to other companies. Not bad, but they should limit it to Maximum 2 companies, els logistics cost, time and spares standards will shoot up.

Mixed fleet...worst idea ever We should have stuck with the M1117 Guardian Armored Security Vehicle and Textron's Survivable Combat Tactical Vehicle varient of the M1113 Humvee The JLTV is a total waste of money The Casspir is a better platform as well

Tess Stickles You’re comparing apples to oranges. The vehicles you mentioned are great products. However, the M1117 is a much heavier vehicle than the JLTV, and while versatile, isn’t as versatile as a truck. The SCTV is a decent upgrade, but the Army was looking to replace armored Humvees overall, since while the Humvee has excellent handling comparable to a seal in the water, the Humvee tends to be more like a seal on land when armor plate is bolted on. You can upgrade the engine (which the SCTV does) and other things. But by then, you’d have what is effectively a new vehicle, without the benefit a new platform has in terms of expansion options. And the Casspir was the basis of yesterday’s news in terms of armored vehicles. Its still a decent option, but unless you have a large fleet of them or have a thing for South African armored vehicles and cover your ears, shut your eyes, and shout at the top of the lungs to ignore the fact the Mamba, RG-31, and RG-33 exist and see widespread use, then sure go for it.

@Arsene Who? And think about it, this is only part of the US military budget, I can't say for sure but it will probably be bellow 5%, and the US military budget is only 3.2% of the entire GDP! There is so much money floating around in america its insane!

49099 JLTVS for the army, 16000 JLTVs marines, 2000airforce, and 400 for the navy. Average cost $250,000 each. Oshkosh is going to be rich with all those orders. They must be laughing all the way to the bank.

It’s not as if they weren’t as far as Army truck contracts are concerned. They already built all the trucks bigger than the Humvee. They build the Army’s FMTVs, HEMTTs, PLS, and the HETS, and the Marines’ MTVR, and LVSR. As far as MRAPs are concerned, most of them are M-ATVs which they also make. They also had manufactured some of the vehicles which their products replaced; the HETS replaced the M911 tank transporter, and the LVSR is well, the replacement for the LVS. This isn’t just laughing all the way to the bank. It’s laughing a little louder to the bank they were already heading toward.

The troops now wanting the old Humvee back they now dispise the Jltv exact words from crew members " we can't see a damb thing out the windows and front to high, stupid computer thing in cargo area for who knows what, all we want is a vehicle we can throw our gear in and supplies and if out in the field able to sleep in it if need be but we can't its to small! And as for starting up in a "combat situation " getting shot at and what have you we are waiting for the vehicle to boot up and start! It's a Death trap! Actual part of a recorded conversation! Alot more on it! And the mrap that was an absolute pile aswell we hate it! Alot on the radio system aswell
