Two days before my individual oral I clicked into this video and realized my global issue was self-contradictory. I watch your videos of introduction to IO, zoom in, zoom out, and conclusion. I found countless problems in my original transcript that I wasn’t aware of. Yesterday I rewrote my IO according to your tips and today I just delivered mine. It went perfectly and I am proud of that delivery. Thank you guys so much!

I personally just had my first individual oral, a few days ago as a summative for English lang lit, they didn’t go as well, but i’m hopeful that the next one before the one that heads to the IB will be a 7/7!! thanks to you both, thank you so much for this video Mr. Giles and Mr. Cohen, have a great day!

Thank you immensely. As a tutor you have clarified so many concepts for me as the syllabus is quite complex

Great! There are many tutors out there who are helping kids. Glad you are doing that. Let us know how else we can help. Our website has some good materials that might be super helpful for tutors. (www.ibenglishguys.com). Go to the teacher resource page.

Hello! One of my friends has started doing her introduction for the IO and this is what she showed me asking for feedback but I'm not sure entirely how else she can improve. The texts are "The colony's solution to Indigenous youth crime? Jail and traumatise kids as young as 14?" and "The Cry of The Children" by EBB Her global issue is: The use of visual and written elements to illustrate the vulnerability of children and youth to exploitation and abuse. In this oral, I will be exploring Australian Cartoonist First Dog on The Moon's work depicting the horrendous experiences of juveniles in prison, particularly those of Aboriginal background followed by the poetic mastership of Elizabeth Barrett Browning who weaves poetry and imagery to encapsulate the sufferings of the young in "The Cry of the Children". Is there anything she should do to discuss the the depth of the issue more?

This sounds compelling and interesting. Can she perhaps distill this global issue into a concise phrase that can be repeated? This is about the mistreatment of minorities in the criminal justice system. Sounds interesting. I’d love to see the final product!

did you mean connect the summary of the entire text or the extract we provide- to the GI?
@ibenglishguys Жыл бұрын
I think you need to give a brief one or two sentence summary of what the whole text is about. Then you give a bit of context for the extract. “The Great Gatsby is a 1920’s novel about the tragic story of a self-made millionaire and his pursuit of a wealthy woman called Daisy Buchanan. My extract takes place in Chapter 3 where…..”

Greetings. May I inquire where our queries get answered? I did want to know about the IO structure when doing short poems or stories. How many does one need to reference for BOW. Also, instead of zooming in and out, what about a structure where the candidate spends 1 minute on the intro and then devotes equal time to larger work and extract separately. The same in the second segment, keeping one minute for the conclusion. Could you please make a video on this or help me with my query somewhere. Many thanks.

We try to answer the queries here on KZbin (every morning with my coffee). As for the IO with poetry or short texts, these work great and for the body of work, we recommend to reference 2 or three other poems and offer some detail from each that shows the global issue. As for structure, the student must be balanced between the extract discussion and the discussion of the work as a whole. 2 minutes (approximately!) for each makes sense for students to have balance. We have a short video on structure and have details on our website so go there to find more resources. All videos have handouts (www.ibenglishguys.com). Hope this helps and thanks for the support.

Hello Guys. Need I say how indispensable you both are, especially at this time of the year! One of my Grade 11 students has come up with the following for an intro presented in class. We were looking at Owen's war poetry and photographs taken from the news agency Al Jazeerah. May I have your opinion on his idea for IO. Thanks. I append an intro he has shared in class. My global issue is “The effective use of art as a medium to communicate the trauma and suffering caused by armed conflict” based on the field of inquiry Art, Creativity and Imagination with the two texts as Wilfred Owen's war poetry from WW1 and collection war photography posted by Al Jazeera of the Russia-Ukraine war. In this oral I will be showing how artists play a crucial role by using their artistic talents to make the world aware of issues that otherwise would not be exposed: Owen uses the poetic art of imagery to expose the brutality of war, while international news agencies like Al Jazeera, use the camera lens to capture disturbing images of human suffering caused by armed conflict.

This is outstanding! Can you email us the final product? I’d love to see the extracts and listen to this IO. We are always looking for great examples!
