Hi. I love the work you do, you don't know how useful this channel is, and I totally appreciated every piece of information I assimilate from you guys. Quick question. From the way you've performed a sort of "Mini oral," would you say you were demonstrating what a "Level 7 " IO looks like, at least to the extent of course to Criterion A, B and D since you can't really judge the degree of balance(Criterion C). I ask this question to see if I should mimic your style, structure, reference to authorial choices… Thanks so much again!

Hi there. Glad you are finding this useful. It’s true that a Mini-Oral may not help one arrive at a score for Criteria C exactly. HOWEVER, if you stick to a balanced zoom in and zoom out (Don’t use these terms in the actual oral by the way) and keep your mini oral to exactly 5 minutes, you’ll actually be SPOT ON for a balanced IO when you do the full one. Concentrate on one text at a time. The IO is NOT COMPARATIVE and while some subtle comparative comments are a nice touch, it’s not required. Be structured and balanced and show insight into the body of work as a whole AND show precise ability to analyze your chosen extract. This is what the mini IO emphasizes. Good luck! If you follow this and practice this, you’ll be way ahead.

@@ibenglishguyshi, hopefully you reply :) But basically, how would I zoom in a non-lit text? I have a feature article and I find it hard to find hotspots for analysis. Should I instead organize my points based on devices? Or, should I stick to points in the article before analyzing devices?

Hi guys, great video! Just wanting to know an estimate of how many different techniques for each text we should be identifying? We have been told 4 techniques with 3 examples each but it seem like quite a lot...
@ibenglishguys Жыл бұрын
You have a little over 2 minutes. We like 5-6 hotspots in your extract where you can point out a “snippet” and identity the features that are used to communicate the GI. Repeat. Aiming for multiple references with multiple features with close attention to the GI and you cannot go wrong. Some strong IOs will discuss many references AND nearly 10 features in their time. Be efficient, analytical and do what you can.

Hi, your content is so helpful. I have a question: instead of reading the quote can we just say like from line 9 it can be inferred that.... Or should we suppose to read the quotes that we are referring to? I'm curious to learn this since reading can consume so much time. Thank you.
@ibenglishguys3 жыл бұрын
That's a really great question. We like to tell our students that rather than reading long quotes, look for the essential "language nuggets" of the quote that you can't live with that. Use only that portion. You typically can simply refer to the keyword or key phrase - with line number - of the quote rather than reading the entire idea. But be sure it's clear...inclusion of textual references (or "nuggets") is expected for Criteria A.

Hey!!! Just a question, you guys suggest 2 minutes or 2 minutes and a half for the zoom in?

Hi mrs.Sorry to bother you but can we put a zoom in and zoom out from 2 texts at the same time in the introduction ?
@ibenglishguys2 жыл бұрын
We recommend keeping the intro short and sweet. Introduce the global issue and the two texts. Then get to the main sections of the IO as soon as possible. So, maybe not a great idea to do any "zoom in" or "zoom out" in the introduction.
@SugarSyrup432 Жыл бұрын
hello. How do you put the zoom in and zoom out in 2 minutes each? It feels diffficult
@ibenglishguys Жыл бұрын
Frankly, it IS super difficult. The idea is to have 5-6 key references from your extract that connect to the GI and have rich literary or stylistic features you can analyze. Then go to your BoW as a whole and explore other moments where you see the global issue. Let the global issue drive everything you discuss. Be clear and passionate and keep your timing right. Good luck!

i have a question- how can i turn the theme of survival into a global issue
@ibenglishguys Жыл бұрын
Ask yourself what humans need to survive. How does mental strength aid survival? What obstacles get in the way of survival? Ask yourself some questions and find something that fits your texts.
