She was born to be crazy in there, but she was still pretty sinister even when things were going her way. She’s a cool and intimidating villain, and it’s fun to decipher what was made by her, and what was made by her father, but ya know there are some choices out there that are easier than others.

seeing that sketchbook world actually made me kinda sad to be honest after seeing Mary in it and the toy box idk just sounds like a poor little girl who was abandoned (considering some of the images of her playing with the dolls or holding their hands) and how no one else but Ib ,Garry and Mary can really be seen in most of the game though in that book it said she was an unfinished piece of art

In the end, Mary has always been alone and suffering, but once someone finally entered her world, it meant everything to her. Ib was her first and only friend. The only time she ever felt joy, fun and love. But in the end Garry just rushed in and took Ib from her. And she was just hated for what she was. Then she felt such rage and madness for the first time too for having that taken from her. It was not fair. Why wouldn't she have the right to love, but Garry would ? Now she's just descending more and more into madness, overwhelmed by envy and hatred. Mary is such a tragic and sad character. You'll always be my fav in this game. You deserved better.

I know I’m years late, but people seem to get the notion that because Mary has a tragic life, that makes her “not evil” or “not the bad guy”. While I certainly agree that it isn’t as simple as her being a mustache twirling supervillain, nothing and I repeat NOTHING, not even mental illness or a sad backstory, justifies even half the stuff she did in this game. Her goals were sympathetic, absolutely, but her actions were nothing more than relentless pain on innocent people. It’s not that I don’t feel for her, but people (and since it’s been years, I hope they realized by now) need to realize that she WAS the bad guy, she WAS in the wrong. It’s okay to accept that part and still love Mary.

She was in the wrong that's for sure. But she was a little girl all alone, who didn't really have a notion of what's good or bad. Her father died and thus left her be trapped forever. The only ones who were here to educate Mary were those evil and insane paintings and dolls who turned her insane as well. So yes, I'm sad for Mary and I think it wasn't really her fault. The best thing to do was to burn her painting so she don't have to suffer this life anymore.

She reminds me more of something that resembles a SCP than a human but because of her human appearance it's very easy for her to manipulate the emotions of her audience both in game and as a player. She knows not right and wrong because its a human construct she only has an instinct or desire, that's my theory anyway.

AND it makes sense - the lonely museum is all she's ever known, why would she act like a morally upright person, when she's not even exactly human? i recently discovered another song from this game, the main title, and it was extremely pleasing. i went up to search it up and i listened to this song. when i heard it, i said “wait, i think i remember this?” so making me know that there is a song that i haven’t heard in almost 5 years, and it was this one. the last time i heard it was from a fnaf animator from finland. i don’t remember their name however. i find it odd because I’ve heard of ib from a nintendo direct and i thought the art style was nice. i’m looking forward to more about this game.

what exactly is Mary. according to the game she wasn't based on a person or anything. but if that's the case how exactly did she come to life. i think it's that Guertena was a schizophrenic and Mary was his first painting and he thought of her as a real girl and he probably considered her his daughter and then he started eventually through therapy he managed to get over it and decided to become a professional artist and almost completely forgot about her. however what Guertena didn't know was that his imagination was too powerful and Mary had gotten a life of her own but she wasn't truly alive but left alone with the creations that replaced her to her they were monsters. as for her connection with Ib she's probably Guertena's great granddaughter and thus Mary considers her a sister and thus has the ability to reach out to her. and as for Garret, he could possibly be the reincarnation of Guertena

Actually, Mary was one of Guertena's last paintings before he died.

Also, Guertena died just several years before the start of Ib and there is no indication that he's connected to Ib in any way. Gary (or Garret, if you prefer it that way) is most probably not related to Guertena in any way either.

I love Mary. I don't blame her for being crazy - if you were stuck alone for God knows how long in a fucked-up gallery full of paintings and statues that want to kill you, going psycho is natural. All she wanted was to be a real girl, like Ib. She had her chance and didn't want to let it go. Wouldn't you all be the same in her situation? :P
