Roger my husband and I can't stop watching you and this vacuum cleaner come to life. God Bless you the two pups and yes ALL those wonderful vacuum cleaners.. We can't stop laughing so thank you so much.

These are super vacuums I have used one for years. The suppressors tend to fail as Constellations run quite hot underneath. Can I also mention if you use a solvent adhesive on a vacuum or accessories you must allow time for the fumes to clear as the sparks from the brushes could ignite them.

I think I'm too young to have seen anything like this before. My mind was blown when it started gracefully gliding over the carpet! And to think I used to believe Dyson were futuristic.

Great video! So glad this beauty is repaired and working properly. It's fun to see inside this Hoover as I've always wanted to see inside and how they routed the exhaust air to make it float. I used to drag my grandmas Hoover Constellation around for fun and as a child was fascinated. Thank you Roger for a great video. TTFN 🤗 Oh and I reported two spam advertisement posts for you that popped up sharply after you posted this video.

What Spam Patrick? Most of it automatically goes in my likely spam or held for review folders, especially if anyone tries to post a link in the comments. What were the advertisements for Patrick.

Fantastic, it sounds beautiful! Top tip, don't drill out t the rivets holding the fancase bearing in, their long unobtanium ones! That's why my constellation has a 1200w numatic motor in...

What a blast from the past, I used to vac with with one of these machines when I was a kid (one of my weekly chores!) we had it years all the way up to 1987 my parents must have bought it new, when were they first manufactured?
@ibaisaic7 жыл бұрын
The first non floating Constellation was launched in the 1950's, but this model dates from the 70's. Hoover continued selling the Constellation in the UK until the early 80's.

Great video. I really like that it's so simple inside. Dear Roger. Eight years ago I suffered a house fire when a rechargeable vacuum overcharged on the wall in my home and it took eighteen months to move back in. After eighteen months I was eighteen years older from the experience.It would do my blood pressure good if when you've repaired a machine, you try it out for its initial run outside on cement.

That is neat the way it floats. At 19:38 you talk about your cordless driver. If it has a clutch turn the clutch way down. That will help to not over tighten screws.

Your musical segments in this clip have me dying of laughter Roger! Those Constellations remind me of the "stones" used in the winter sport of curling! If you're not familiar with the sport, search for it on KZbin and you'all see what I mean...

we're do you store all your vacuums? I collect older washers and work on them. mainly hotpoints from the late 70's and 80's and they are in my summer house. older appliances are usually better built and sound so much better
@anthonylawrence607 жыл бұрын
I worked for a Hoover agent back in the 70s when this machine was new .If i ordered a new motor for one of these [or any of the other Hoover cylinder cleaners]it usually came with a new rubber seal stuck on with the black bitumen type paint
@ibaisaic7 жыл бұрын
They may have started sticking the seal on in the 70's because I've had earlier Constellations that didn't have the black paint on them.

The Hoover Constellation uses the Type J bags. The one being fitted in the video looks like a much larger, incompatible type used by a different Hoover model. See: www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2/141-3097568-0561834?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=hoover+j+bags My Constellation 456 was made in 1964 and still works. I recently changed the broken on/off switch with a much less-expensive, standard SPST toggle switch found in most electronic stores. The Hoover Constellation was known as the 867A in the U.K. and U.S., which was identical to model 456 manufactured in Canada. View them all in Google Images.
@ibaisaic6 жыл бұрын
The bag in the video was in the box with the cleaner when it left the factory. It is a genuine vintage Hoover brand bag. They are not called type J in the UK, we know them as H5 bags.

I don't know why I found 24:43 hilarious, not sure if it was the music or the fact that it was floating round the carpet all by itself.
@Newslogger446 жыл бұрын
The Canadian-made Hoover Constellation model 456 (same as the U.S. and U.K. 867A version) was manufactured in Hamilton, Ontario circa the 1960s plus, but unfortunately no longer. Typing 456 into their current website brings up nothing--as expected--so vintage parts such as the hose and tubing would likely only be available elsewhere such as eBay. The original, brown inner filter held in place by that metal ring may very well be unavailable. No problem, however, as I merely replaced my worn-out filter with an ordinary but stronger face-cloth instead and it works fine. Simply clean it on a regular basis. I once tried a thin piece of foam but that didn't survive very long! Considering that just about every appliance you buy these days has planned obsolescence, the Hoover Constellation must surely be one of the rare exceptions that, in my case, despite it having been taking a beating for over 50 years and STILL operating, proves that excellent design, superior craftsmanship, and durability is not necessarily a lost art! As a "reward" for its reliable service, I plan to give mine a brand-new paint job soon! Good luck Constellation owners. May yours outlive you! (pass it on to your children). :-)

When I did the after clean video of kyles 1972 constellation some black foam came out the bottom thats was what was. I never dismantled it as it works fine looks like I'm going to find a foam filter. Kyle owns 3 different constellations all slightly different, he does like the air ride Hoovers

I imagine someone more knowledgeable might know for certain, but that's not paint. It's generously applied adhesive for the upper rubber mount.
