My newly acquired IBM /Lenovo BladeCenter H is in this video changes places with my somewhat older BladeCenter E
It weighs up to 164 kg, so it requires a little work on my part before I can replace it by myself.

My PlayHouse is a channel where i will show, what i am working on. I have this house, it is 168 Square Meters / 1808.3ft² and it is full, of half-finished projects.
I love working with heating, insulation, Servers, computers, Datacenter, green power, alternative energy, solar, wind and more. It all costs, but I'm trying to get the most out of my money, and my time.

this is what being a computer enthusiast is all about. the guy makes youtube videos, hosts a couple websites and does a bit of rendering, a workload that warrants maybe a dual xeon workstation, but nah, he wanted a room full of servers and fuck anyone that says its pointless. Good stuff man

Fellow dane here. Enjoying your videos mate. :) I myself also am working with bladecenters and storagesystems, but only as a profession. Not at home :) A small tip: When putting URL's for bypassing java security you need to pay attention to the URL you are accessing. In this video you access 192.168.1.x but when typing in the URL in java exeption, you put 192.168.1.x. That will prevent the exeption from having the desired effect. :)

This is a great machine, Morten, and I hope you get a good deal of service out of it. I would want to dedicate that beast entirely to solar energy here in the United States as my electric bill should skyrocket with that on the power grid! By the way, I will be getting my first IBM x3650 M3 pretty soon, too, and I thought you would like to know that I decided on making the leap from Dell's 1950 and an old 2650 thanks to your review of the x3650 series. I may even play with a few SSD's in the bays, too.

Hi Tyler Barton Uhh New hardware on the way!!,, Cool,, a IBM x3650 M3 instad of thoes two old dell servers, that is something of an upgrade! What CPU have you bought it with? Hope that you will not be disappointed. Thank you for watching! :-)
@tylerdoestech
@tylerdoestech 9 жыл бұрын
My PlayHouse, I have not purchased it yet, but it comes with an Intel Xeon 5550 2.6Ghz quad core. It will work for just getting started with it, but I eventually would like to put an hex core or maybe a 3.0Ghz quad core in it. I would also like to get my hands on an Opteron powered server one day soon as they can be cheaply had and offer ridiculous numbers of cores (16 on a processor!), but their offerings can get expensive when piecing them together. The redeeming quality of this x3650 is the amount of RAM it has onboard with it for sale: 48GB! I thought that would be more than enough to outfit even a couple more barebones servers if I found some reasonably priced.
@MyPlayHouse
@MyPlayHouse 9 жыл бұрын
Hi Tyler Barton My mistake,, I concluded that it was purchased and you were just awaiting delivery :-) 48GB is realy fine see: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jnTOeKyMmZl8j7c "Running 15 2008R2 Servers, on 6 GB of RAM ESXi5.5 - 155" Thank you for watching! :-)

Morten, At 09:00, you show what you call clamps. In the U.S., we refer to these as cage clips. I still prefer to use these, even with the "rapid install" rails. Generally, if the server is mounted on ball-bearing glide rails, it's a good idea to utilize those cage clips as well. However, in your case, the brackets that use, are what I'd call "utility shelves". In other words, the rails themselves do not extend. Additionally, you may have not noticed that, when you reinstalled those screws, there was nothing for them to capture (IE - The cage clip nuts.). This is regardless of when you put in the screws. Anyway, there should be two at the top, & two at the bottom. That's four cage clips & four screws. Perhaps the idea is, when you remove those power supplies or blades from the front, the chassis will remain in place.

I just came across your KZbin channel and I'm very intrigued. I'm loving your videos so far! I also happen to be fascinated by Denmark, so it's very cool to see inside a Danish house and everything. My Dad actually works for a Danish company, Gram Equipment, and has to travel to Vojens and Aarus a few times a year. I would love to visit some day (your country, not specifically your house, lol). I thought it was interesting that the aliexpress.com site listed the currency in US Dollars - obviously I have an "American perspective", so I'm accustomed to seeing everything in US Dollars anyway, but is it normal for you to buy things online in American currency as opposed to Danish currency?
@MyPlayHouse
@MyPlayHouse 9 жыл бұрын
Hi +Dave Lambert Well on Aliexpress i do think i can change the currency,, i just have it on $ for the ease of not having to write what the price is in $ compared to Dkr. I am probably going to change to €,, on my channel, just because the number of viewers using € is bigger then those using $ :-) I have been to the US, twices,, It is always cool to see something new. I have the good old Dell m1000e's at home... and I have to agree. I'm really loving the Dell gear. The iDrac6 is real handy, the iKVM gives KVM over Ethernet ... and having built in infrastructure slots is SO useful _(Cisco modules and Infiniband too, FTW!)_ 3 densities and 4 generations of blades still compatible despite it being an old chassis that you can pick up for £400 !!! You can't beat that : ) ... oh, and second hand m610's are just £33 each, populated! That's the price of a Raspberry Pi2 FFS ! I've not really tried much IBM gear recently (no blade-centres at all) but I can't see it tempting me away from my Dell kit. Oh no. I think I've turned into a Dell fanboy : O

I came across a bladecenter H yesterday and brought it home with 8 blades ranging from HS to HX5 with 128GB og DDR3 RAM and paid 500$ for it all. And if that werent enough i also brought home a powervault md1000. (As far my reasearch found out) Which is good as i have 3 poweredge 2950 servers. But + I got over 20TB with system storage drives for a vault i can connect to the bladecenter with fiber modules. Only down side is that my breaker is a 10A so i can't turn it on or use it at all. Blades themselves are processing components. A blade alone (without the supporting bladecenter rack) is useless, but at least one is required to run a bladecenter server, as they have the processors and RAM needed.

Hi diamondcraftia I have been assigned a KZbin Partner Manager,,, To help me grow my channel. It was a top priority for him to change my KZbin name from "Morten Hjorth" to "My Playhouse" and that little picture of me. To brand my channel. That I was worried to do in one go,, so now it's "My Playhouse - Morten Hjorth" for some time and i'll remove the "Morten Hjorth" part, when I am sure, that you are becoming accustomed to it. And the Pic,,, when I find something good. So that's the explanation :-) Thank you for watching! :-)

Hi artiguf It´s probably Java problems,, you need to allow your PC to access the IP of the AMM,, and you might have to set your browser to compatible mode. And firmware update the AMM when you get that fare :-) less problems. Thank you for watching! :-)
