What HF antenna are you running when your in your truck..? Thans in advance, I am watching all these videos, because I have this radio on my wish list, plus the 705. I wish you also had the 5100, some of this stuff is probably the same, but I like the style and how you are teaching us all how to make this so much easier to use. I learned visually and hands on better than reading a manual. Keep up the great work Dale KI5ARH

Thank you for the kind words Dale. I'm glad the channel is helpful for you. I have tried a number of antennas on the truck. I have a 3/8x24 mount so I can easily try different antennas. When I'm on a long trip, I typically use just an 8 foot Stainless whip with an autotuner under the back seat. It's not the most efficient, but it works okay from 20 meters up. It will load up on 40 meters, but I'm quite sure I'm not getting out too well. I recently bought a Wolf River Coils Silver Bullet 1000. I cut down one of my stainless whips to about 5 feet to use with it. It seems to work pretty well, but I've only used it stationary so far. I'm not comfortable that it is sturdy enough for highway speeds without a guy string of some sort.

Does this have band edge memories so I can set the General bands so I don't screw up and go outside my limits?
@HamRadioA2Z
@HamRadioA2Z Жыл бұрын
Hi Donald. Yes. The IC-7100 has User Band Edges that you can set to limit where you transmit. If you press SET and go to the Function menu, you will find the User Band Edges option right under the Band Edge Beeps option. HOWEVER, you must have Band Edge Beeps set to “ON (User)” or “ON (User) & Limit TX”. If Band Edge Beeps is set to OFF or ON (Default), then the User Band Edge menu option won’t appear.

@@HamRadioA2Z I would have it set to TX LIMIT to be sure I didn't get out of band! I understand that it is set up to keep me in the band for top license, I am just General. Want to make sure I stay in my bands. Thank you for the very good videos! 73 W4DES

Yes. You can do that. When you set band edge beeps to ON (User) & TX Limit, you just change the User edges for each band to the limits for your license.
