Bottom of the Bakery #16: Seddie pt 4: iCan’t Take It
I review the penultimate episode of the messed up Seddie arc. An episode filled with violent outbursts and awful behavior.

Sam’s actress, Jeannette McCurdy has recently said that she’s ashamed of most of her roles, including Sam. And remembering episodes like this... it’s not hard to see why :/ (Also, What was that ‘cake’ made out of?)

There's also the factor that this show is aimed at kids and teens. Say what you will about "Family Guy" doing things like this, at least it has the excuse of it being a show aimed at adults who should know things work and what's right and wrong. This show is aimed at kids and teens who don't have as much a grasp on the world and they could easily get the wrong idea that just because it's a comedy show for kids that behavior like this is acceptable which makes it so much more uncomfortable.

Same here. I never thought something would make me think "That episode is overheated", but Dan Schneider somehow accomplished that. Furthermore, at least Family Guy's main demographic are meant to be adults, so they (hopefully) wouldn't take the shit that episode preaches seriously, but ICarly is meant for minors. Sam really is just a terrible character, since she's basically just a romanticized bully and juvenile delinquent and I honestly don't even want to think how she might have influenced the target audience's perception of friendships and romantic relationships.

Seddie fans are still convinced those were good relationship episodes and that Dan is genuinely in favour of that relationship. This is the worst episode of the entire show and features Sam Puckett at her worst. Don't get me wrong I have no problem with abrasive or unlikable characters as long as there's entertainment or reason to them. For instance I like Megan from Drake & Josh because you're suppose to dislike her (the two exceptions being the Peruvian Puff Pepper and Sheep episodes). Whereas you're suppose to like characters like Sam and Jade. In Sam's case I liked her back in iCarly's earlier seasons (the first 3 back when the show was good, if missteps here and there) because while she was always aggressive to a degree I feel earlier seasons used it better or it was placed in the right time in a comedic situation. A good example of this was the episode where a group of writers plagiarized iCarly's skits and were using it for their own show Totally Terry, Sam assaults the men with a butter sock, which was funny. The one exception to the rule was obvious her treatment of Freddie, which yeah even in the earlier seasons could go too far. But I felt with the exception of her abuse toward Freddie her aggressiveness wasn't that bad and while she wasn't perfect at it Carly made more attempts to call out Sam. In the later seasons Sam would turn her aggressive tendencies into straight up violence toward anybody who wasn't Carly or Spencer. Like the way she brutally attacks Gibby in this episode is worse than any abuse she gave Freddie. Its also strange in that Mrs Benson is suppose to be the antagonist of the episode because of how she is normally, but this is the one instance in the entire series where she's in the right! And don't get me wrong Freddie isn't perfect either, but I do feel with the exception of the Seddie arc he still remained the most likable character alongside Spencer and Gibby in the show! That being said it was a pretty awful move for him to edit Carly out of an iCarly skit, not to mention very out of character. What I found the most gross about this whole thing was that even though they were "dating" Freddie was still being thrown under the bus in some way the whole arc, rather it was him being seen as wrong for not wanting to pay money in the previous episode or Sam doing something that somehow loops back around to being his fault. Here Sam sabotages a potential future for his life because of something so frivolous as not telling her the time?

I honestly don’t see the appeal of Dan Schneider’s shows period. They all seem to be little more than hodgepodges of the most reviled comedy tropes ever; one-dimensional main characters who are either braindead, unfettered sociopaths or the universe’s chew toy, random, mad libs plots, lowbrow and idiotic humor that thinks wacky and over the top and having actors just chew the scenery Jim Carrey-style without any direction instantly equals hilarious, assholes characters who cause trouble for everyone but rarely if ever receive comeuppance while the sympathetic characters constantly get punished, characters constantly going through hell to accomplish something only to still lose and be humiliated in the end, etc., etc. They’re like the worst of Disney Channel sitcoms but gutted of any charm or heart they originally had and replacing it with the most obnoxious tropes from seasons 6-8 of Spongebob XD

Just because you’re doing something that is less bad, or something bad is done less often, that doesn’t mean you’re doing a good thing. Ergo, Sam’s words of beating Freddie less often are pretty empty. It often, though not always, hides a darker front of "I'm not really trying that hard to better myself." There are people who do genuinely try to improve themselves as people or at least contribute to society in some way, but can’t help slipping into their past ways for one reason or another. Sam Puckett, however, is not one of those people. She’s a bad person, and a badly-written character, through and through. On a different topic, now that I understand why the iCarly videos stopped, I’m glad you are currently in a better place yourself in regards to relationships. (Sidenote: that "Woo!" caught me off guard and made me chuckle.)

I disagree somewhat. I think back then, the opposites attract type of couple was really popular back then; especially in comedies. And because this type of couple worked in previous shows. (Zoey 101, Drake & Josh, and etc.) However, this was the worst portrayal of this type of couple. And do you want to know what makes it worse? Seddie was toxic as hell and so was Sam and Freddie's friendship. It only got slightly better during and after they had a relationship. But it was still garbage. That's why I'm rather happy that Sam's not in the reboot. She wasn't always the most entertaining factor of the original series, anyway. Spencer and Freddie, and Gibby carried the show. The villains and some side characters they had carried the show. Sam's not really needed and people need to accept that and leave Jeanette McCurdy alone.

So... cathartic! There are just SOOOOOOO many problems with this dumpster fire of an episode. In addition to all that you brought up, it's a little convenient that the Gibby who took on Nora in iPsycho and WON, didn't even TRY to do the same with Sam here. Also... how the hell did Sam even manage to sabotage Freddie's application without him knowing? Typically, people need some sort of account to fill out these things online, yes? So Sam somehow managed to hack in, alter and save the answers, and when Freddie logged back in, he somehow didn't notice or pay attention to the fact that the answers had been changed before submitting the application? Would he not have double checked things or something?! There's also the fact that nobody bothers to contact the camp to inform them of the sabotaged application. Not even Freddie's mom, who is the dictionary definition of an overprotective parent. Not gonna lie, for the first few seconds I was wondering why you were doing this in live-action as opposed to using the PieCons. Then you said you were gonna discuss abusive relationships, and I realised that this was meant to be more of a heart-to-heart discussion with the audience... especially with what you revealed near the end. Well... their relationship is interesting, I'll give you that. And yes, I agree that a perfect couple would make for boring television. However, there's a difference between 'perfect' and 'healthy', and Sam and Freddie's relationship isn't healthy. At all. She regularly verbally and physically assaults throughout the series. "That is Sam’s personality and you really can’t change anything about that." I dunno, I believe therapy exists for that sort of thing. But whether you can change it or not, that doesn't make her actions okay. "That’s what carried the show too, hence why it became so popular." Would you truly forgive someone who not only regularly verbally and physically assaults you, but also ruins your life prospects. I sure as hell wouldn't, and I'm pretty sure PieGuy wouldn't with whatever it is he went through. "Yes, I understand what Sam did could’ve been wrong, but at least there was forgiveness." Could've been wrong? It WAS wrong. Comedy or not, Freddie not knowing what time it was when Sam asked does not in any way warrant that kind of malice. Here’s some fun trivia. For one thing, Nathan Kress himself bluntly stated in a 2017 interview that he did not support the Seddie paring, for the exact same reasons most sensible people wouldn’t support it (as in, Sam was a horrible, abusive person who treated Freddie like shit and regularly beat the crap out of him). Similarly, Jennette McCurdy outright stated that she did not like Sam as a character, not just because she detested her acting career in general, which her parents had pressured her into, but also because she too considered Sam to be a terrible, mean-spirited character and a horrible role model for kids. With that in mind, along with the actual canon relationship between the two characters, I’m not sure how both Sam Puckett and Seddie could be any more objectively bad, short of Dan Schneider himself denouncing them (though I doubt anyone would give two cents about his opinion nowadays XD). And as if that wasn’t enough, once it was revealed that Sam wouldn’t be returning for the sequel show, Sam fanatics were so upset that they took notes from their favorite character and went to cyberbully and shout racist insults at Laci Mosley (the actress who plays Harper) for having the gall to replace Sam as Carly’s new BF, ignoring the fact that Jeannette herself did not like the character or being an actress and had no interest to return to the show. If someone screwed up my application to get into a university, job opening, or whatever opportunity was for a reason like that, I would have been beyond pissed and doubt on forgiving them. I am someone who gives people second chances and is easily forgiving, but there are times when forgiveness is not going to be an option and this would be one of them. I really didn't like how inconsiderate Carly was in regards to Freddie's feelings of sadness and being hurt about Sam sabotaging his application to the camp. She brings up the question, "How many things has Sam ruined for me?" as a way to justify her reasoning to tell Freddie not to care over what she did. One, that is not an excuse and not your business to interfere with what they decide to do about the relationship. Second, I think it sends a really bad message to teenagers when it comes to relationships because the episode is basically saying that if your partner/significant other interferes with your professional career/academics, you shouldn't break up with them over that. You need to focus on yourself and you comes first before focusing on your partner and their needs. It's more important for you to prioritize your schooling first than over a man or woman. Your partner should never take over and dictate your professional and academic choices. Freddie really wanted to go to that camp that would have highly benefited him professionally and help him get into a really good college and even though he should have never been in this relationship with Sam in the first place, he had every right to be upset over it and break up with Sam when it came to something like this. Sam was at her worst here and an example of an extremely toxic person in someone's life and one Freddie should have completely cut off from this point here. There is no going back from something like this. This episode is my least favorite from the entire show to be honest. I also cannot get over as to why Carly kept the secret about the forged application from Freddie and his mother. She knew about this for some time and I guarantee that Sam begged Carly not to disclose this to Freddie. Even then, I think Carly would have stood up to Sam and told her that this is something she could not keep from one of her friends and either tell her to talk to Freddie about what she did or take action in contacting the camp about the application. I don't understand why Carly (or anyone else like Freddie's mother) never contacted the camp to let them know that Freddie's application was changed and it was not the intended application he meant to send in. After Freddie found out about Sam changing it, I also wonder why he didn't contact the camp himself to explain to them what happened and if they would provide Freddie the opportunity to resend in the application he meant to send in. Perhaps the deadline already passed or if the camp was already running by that point, but even then, I wish that they explained as to how Sam was able to just get into his application and changed his responses since it appeared that it was an online application and if Freddie would have been able to get a second chance to resend it or even reapply next year if he would have still be qualified to go the following year. This would be especially questionable by the admissions team when reviewing applications and if Freddie had to also send in his high school transcript and/or asked for recommendations, his grades would have been excellent with him being an straight A student and his teachers would have given a good word about Freddie as a student and individual, so they would have seen that something is CLEARLY not right with the online application and looks to have forged by someone else.

Normally Mrs Benson is portrayed as an overbearing, coddling and controlling mother, but really she was the ONLY character who didn't just randomly decide to change her mind. She was actually in the right this whole time yet she's suppose to be the antagonist of the episode. Like when she enters the iCarly studio and showcases Freddie what Sam did to his application she has a look of delight on her face, almost as if the episode wants you to think she's the bad guy. I also would like to point out the plothole of Carly knowing Sam sabotaged Freddie's Science Camp application and yet she apparently kept this from Freddie the whole time and only decides to bring it up out of the convenience that she was sick of their relationship, that doesn't showcase Carly in a good light when she knowingly kept that from him. To me alongside the abuse angle what I found most frustrating about the show is how everything Sam does always has to loop to making Freddie the buttmonkey or under the subject of losing. Like despite dating, something had to be his fault or he got abused regularly. Its like Freddie can't ever catch a break because Sam's actions will always make him miserable. Honestly its no wonder why Jenette McCurdy hates her portrayal here. Sam abusing Gibby is by far the most uncomfortable scene in the entire show. Especially when she partly scalps him and dislocates his shoulder.

@@EmmaCRBsnewstuff Honestly, this Seddie arc was completely one sided and it felt like Carly was constantly on Sam’s side. In this specific case, I can’t see as to how anyone would be on Sam’s side and Freddie was completely justified in how he was feeling and Sam needed to be called out on what she did. Yes, as a friend, you can give your advice or opinion on a friend’s relationship if they happen to ask you what they think but at the end of the day, you are not the person who decides for someone what they should do about their relationship. What would Carly have thought about this kind of situation if she experienced the same thing with a boyfriend where he ended up sabotaging something special for her and was a toxic guy for her?

While Sam is my least favorite part of this arc (and of the whole show for that part) Carly is a CLOSE, CLOSE second. She peer pressures Sam into dating Freddie on the internet without a care of how Freddie feels about the matter. She constantly tells both of them they are in the wrong in iDate Sam and Freddie even thought MOST of the time Sam was completely in the wrong. She kept Sam sabotaging Freddie's application a secret from him. And what really gets my blood boiling is the last part of this episode where Carly shows an utter lack of regard for Freddie's feelings and what Sam did to him, convinces him to continue dating a literal sociopath, and creepily pushes their heads together to force them to kiss. Also, these writers seriously think that all their is to a relationship is kissing.

She doesn't abuse him physically but she is a witness to the abuse but decides either to go silent about it or even supports it like in the Fred episode. She wanted Sam to physically hurt Freddie just to get the beef solved. Another episode which shows Carly in a bad light is the second Nora special. Carly witnessed that Nora kissed Freddie without his permission but instead of doing something against it she decidet to eat cake. What makes it worse is that the exact same situation happened to Carly with Nevel. That's the biggest sexism. It shows what a hypocrite Carly is

Seddie fans bring up that the logic and dynamic behind this ship is the same as Arnold X Helga. The difference is unlike Sam, Helga didn’t assault Arnold every episode. She grabbed him by his collar and called him names, which is still bad, but compared to what Sam does to Freddie, it’s kindergarten teasing. Also unlike Sam, there were several episodes that showed why Helga is so aggressive and is in love with Arnold. Not to mention, none of Arnold’s friends ever pressured him into dating his bully. Arnold finding feelings for Helga was his choice. Freddie and Sam could’ve never been a couple in my opinion, but they could’ve had a semi-decent friendship since they had one major thing in common. They both have abusive mothers that were polar opposites. One was neglectful while the other was overbearing. Freddie could be like, “Your mom let’s you do whatever you want, and leaves you alone. I can’t step out of my bedroom without being monitored.” Then Sam could be like, “At least your mom cares about you, feeds you, knows you exist. I’ve had to learn how to make a sandwich while I was still in diapers.” Then they both realize the reason they’re good friends with Carly and hang out at her apartment all the time is because it’s the only other place besides school and the Groovy Smoothie where they can get away from their moms.

Another difference is that Helga had times of showing a softer side and making an effort to be nice to people, such as when she comforted Phoebe at the end of "Preteen Scream", apologizing for blowing up at Harold in "Buses, Bikes, and Subways", wanting to make amends in "Magic Show" and many other examples. Sam rarely apologizes or tries to right her wrongs, especially in the later seasons as well as Sam & Cat.

Helga's backstory as to why she acts the way she did was much more believable. Her background revolving her dysfunctional family life really added to her character and she was just an overall better written character with more depth as compared to Sam and her background revolving her dysfunctional family background. Helga had an older sister in college who her parents (mostly her father) idolized to no end and Olga's accomplishments were constantly exploited in the house. Helga often felt inferior to her sister, would not receive as much attention compared to Olga, and assumed that Olga did not seem to consider or care about Helga when in reality, Olga was suffering just as much as Helga did because Olga was often pushed into being a perfectionist and it really impacted her mental health. There was one case where Olga came back home from college while on break and she broke down and had a depressive episode after receiving one "B" in a course because she was afraid that her perfectionist streak was over and her father would have been disappointed in her since she is often held on a pedestal with high expectations. Helga poked fun at her sister for making such a big deal over receiving the B, but it made sense for Helga to not really pick up and not understand the suffering her sister went through since Helga was a child who wouldn’t have taken into consideration as to how people can suffer from perfectionism and think that Olga’s life was all but wonderful and having everything you could want like good grades, college boys flaunting over her, having tons of trophies and awards, etc. Olga actually does care for Helga a lot, but Helga tends to not really see it because of the glamorization she has from their parents and thinks that Olga caring for her is fake, thus pushes Olga away from her life. Both Helga and Olga had unhealthy relationships with their parents but in very different ways.

I honestly didn't care much for Helga x Arnold either, TBH. And actually, "Helga on the Couch" made it worse; we're supposed to feel sorry for her when she treats the first person to show her any kindness like crap? Puh-lease. And it doesn't matter how old they were; it's just as bad as adults telling little girls "oh, that boy just hits you and pulls your hair because he *likes* you!" While I do have to admit that the iCarly thing is worse, I despise anything that connects affection with abuse and violence (and yes, getting in someone's face and insulting them is still abuse). Honestly, what's so bad about a character having feelings for someone and not treating them like shit? That seems reasonable to me.

You guys wanna hear something strange? At around the time this season of the show was airing, I actually wrote my own parody of iCarly where the opening parallels what happened in this episode to a T. In my parody, Sam and Carly spend two minutes laughing at and mocking Freddie about wearing a tiki hat, him having just gotten back from a tech camp at a tropical resort (the camp aspect). Freddie then says something really mildly insulting to the girls when he tries to get them to stop [which makes the sound box to go “ooooooh” in an exaggerated way], which then provokes Sam to violently attack him (like she did to Gibby in this episode), which makes the laugh box go wild [it’s then revealed to be operated by two sadistic bullies who laugh at Freddie’s pain and call him a jerk and a loser], and she caps it off by kicking him in the balls (exactly what happened to Spencer in this episode, only difference being it was on purpose in my parody). Later on at school, Freddie approaches Sam and Carly with crutches, casts all over his body, and a pelvic wrap, having just gotten back from the hospital from Sam beating him up (like what happened to Gibby here). The scary thing about all of this? I had never even seen this episode when I wrote this parody. I was just going for an exaggerated version of the things I hated about the show. All this episode needed was Spencer complaining about Sam kicking him in the “nubs” and it would basically my iCarly parody.

it was stable as there was a whole arc on seddie while creddie had 1 pointless episode of carly liking freddie for what he did, which in my opinion was very stupid on carlys side because in order to be in love with someone, you need to be IN LOVE. which in that case sam and freddie comes in. carly only liked freddie for what he did, sam was still supporting freddie with what he was doing no matter what when they were dating. there was no reason for them to break up as there is many other couples in the world that probably don’t share the same interests either. in iLove You, they said directly that they love each other and kissed when after they said it was over. They even changed the initial break-up to midnight meaning they probably didn’t want to break up that fast and continued kissing each other in the elevator while the relationship was still going. Now I never saw any of that in Creddie. again, sam would be bothered sooner or later if carly and freddie dated. if sam and freddie’s relationship was that toxic, i wouldnt think it would last and there wouldn’t be 3 episodes of them dating. but instead there was a whole arc but i never saw an arc of creddie. additionally, sam locked herself up into the mental institution because she THOUGHT she was crazy for liking freddie. they’ve spent years of the act of hating each other, so it’s obvious sam will do something like that. yes i do agree that sam could’ve treated freddie better friendship wise, but relationship wise seddie wins. i can guarantee you that sams bullying is probably just an act towards freddie to hide feelings and i have proof to support that. 1. in iMake Sam Girlier, carly used freddie as an example to when sam has a crush on someone, sam said “How can I PRETEND to have a crush on Freddie if I’m looking at his face?” see the word play of pretend? she can’t pretend she has a crush on freddie if she already has one. 2. In iDon’t Want To Fight, at the beginning of the show, freddie said: “You know, they say when a girl constantly rips on a guy, it really just means she has a crush on him”, although sam did insult freddie in that manner, she said “YEAH, but i wasn’t ripping on a guy, I was ripping on you”. meaning she agreed and literally just exposed herself saying that she did have a crush on him. Sam also got a little jealous in iFight Shelby Marx when Freddie had a crush on Shelby. and i can go on and on but i don’t want to expand this message even though it is enough. OH, and if seddie was THAT toxic, they wouldn’t decide to do their first kiss together. keep in mind that they wanted to do it, it wasn’t forced. so again, friendship wise sam may need to improve (but a theory is that she is bullying freddie for hiding her feelings or just as an instinct of hers since she is a total tomboy) but relationship wise, seddie is superior. carly and freddie were never made for each other since day 1.

"Horrible character abuse equals instant comedy" is pretty much Nick’s M.O these days and it’s been present in all their flagship shows for a long time (pretty much since 2005) and the few shows on their network that were made by real talent who understood good comedy and characterization quickly got canceled. As far as the Nick bigwigs are concerned, this trope equals the most views, and views equal more money.

Three things: yeah, why _did_ Freddie edit out Carly. He's usually much more reasonable than that. He's one of the few people on iCarly who's not out of his mind (despite being *_Marissa Benson's_* son). Two, I know Sam is insane, aggressive, and ridiculously short-tempered, but still, why be mad at Freddie for saying "I don't know" about the time? That's not enough to sabotage his application. And...let's *_not_* go with an answer like "Well, this is Sam we're talking about." I'm aware of that. I still want to know more about her annoyance and motive. We all have ultimate motives to do the things we do, even if they are wrong. Three, correct me if I'm wrong, but technically, Gibby was trying to get Freddie to be Sam's victim again. That was pretty selfish, especially since they're friends. Besides, it totally would've defeated the purpose anyway. I think, Sam would've been so mad at Gibby for ruining their relationship, she would take it out on him--even worse. Be mean to Freddie again just because they're no longer dating? Nope. Be meanER to Gibby for _causing_ their relationship's demise. Yup, makes more sense to me.

After the application fiasco, Freddie should've not forgiven her, and she should've doubled down when Carly was all like "she does shit to me too." Freddie could've said something like "then we both have a reason to dump her." And Freddie leaves, and Carly, after reflecting, thinks he's right and Sam is kicked out of her life too. I recently binged the entire show, and another part that was absolutely disgusting is how it kept playing the sexual assault of men for laughs. The absolute worst instance of this is in iStill Psycho, where Nora (after kidnapping everyone again) holds Freddie down with force and kisses him against his will (he is even physically struggling the entire time trying to push her off) and Carly and Sam just stand there watching while eating cake. When she finally lets him go, and he confronts Sam and Carly about not helping him (clearly very upset about what happened, because you know... HE WAS LITERALLY JUST ASSAULTED AND HIS FRIENDS DID NOTHING TO HELP HIM), they just answer with "it's good cake"

Yeah that definitely does not age well and such a double standard whenever it comes to assault and abuse happening to men treated as a joke or “humorous” whenever the women do it to them. If men assault women, it’s played for drama and taken seriously yet (i.e., Twilight: Eclipse, Sex Education, etc.) when it’s the other way around, it’s not taken as seriously, which is messed up. They even had the same issue earlier in the show with iPie when Trudy was forcing a kiss from Spencer and Spencer was clearly not wanting her to kiss him yet his sexual assault is played for laughs. 😕

Well, your comment is making me want to tell a story of my own: back when she was just a mere strong underachieving tomboy (you know, when iCarly was good), I had a MAJOR crush on Sam (I was seven when I started watching the show regularly in 2009). Sure, she had hints of aggression even back then, but I admired for the fact that she was the first female character I saw on TV that didn’t act “girly”. After years of being bombarded with children’s shows featuring female characters around my age or slightly older than me obsessed with pink, boy bands, and makeup, it was refreshing to see one who was “one of the boys”. My heart broke as soon as I saw the Seddie arc. I was thinking, “Sam has never been an angel, but she was also never THIS abrasive.” Keep in mind that I was only 10 at the time, so imagine a sense of innocent, sinless admiration just knocked right out of me, like something you would see in a cartoon. If I ever get to meet Jenette McCurdy in person, I’m gonna ask her if it’s okay to give her a hug. Seeing the flanderization her character went through was extremely depressing, which is why I’m fine with Sam not returning for the revival.

Apparently, Dan Schneider took to social media to vent on how much he actively disliked the shipping aspect of iCarly's popularity. With that in mind, it's almost guaranteed the shipping focused episodes were made in direct response to try to discourage it. iSaved Your Life was likely to say Creddie can only work as a fantasy and was unrealistic. The whole Seddie arc was definitely made to show how it would be 100% toxic and unsustainable.

I hate to imagine that this show has influenced the kids that watched it that abuse is not only okay, but romantic and cute. To this day there are still shippers like the OG Seddie shippers encouraging more toxic relationships in their favorite shows. I find it so disgusting, especially given that my mom is also an abuse survivor. I'm very sorry you went through that abusive relationship, PieGuy. I hope that the media and society finally step up and teach women not to abuse men as well, to have less relationships like the one you sadly had to go through, and less 'romantic' relationships like Seddie being excused and encouraged.

- Rather than assuming that Seddie fans are people who glorify abuse, I think their idea was that Seddie would be a thing after the two had worked out old differences and were actually GOOD FRIENDS. But the arc didn’t do that, they just jumped into the relationship without any preparation. Remember, iStart a Fan War wasn’t making fun of general shippers, so you have no right to either or else you’ve missed the point.

I think it’s more of media sugarcoating assault and abusive relationships whenever it involves women abusing men. Whenever it’s men abusing women, it’s played for drama and taken seriously but whenever it’s the other way around, it’s usually treated as a joke or “humorous,” which is very messed up and such a double standard. Even to a lesser degree, you don’t tend to really see abusive relationships in LGTBQ+ relationships whether it is men-on-men abuse or women-on-women abuse, so people tend to just assume it’s mainly between men and women, which is not true.

I think what makes it worse is that Freddie never recovered (if what I heard from the revival is true) from his childhood abuse. Because of her, he never got into that great college and thus, not getting the experience needed to run a company and thus it failed and due to his most, if not only female interactions he had were Carly and Sam, two completely abusive woman who did nothing but take advantage of him, he wasn't able to form a legit romantic relationship and now has two divorces. Not to mention since when he wasn't with them, he was either studying or with his over protective mom so he barely got experience nor social interaction every teenager and young man needs to learn. But to hear how this ark goes for the absolute worst of ideas makes me so angry when you have the opportunity to give something meaningful. I… don’t know what should shock me more, what I just heard from this review or the fact that you remained in that oven for YEARS… You know what? I’ll just say this: When I first heard that iCarly is getting rebooted, but without Sam, since Jennette McCurdy had cut her acting career, I was pretty disappointed. However, while I do think it’s a shame that she wasn’t feeling satisfied with her roles, I can kinda understand her now. After hearing about this episode, I think it’s for the best that Sam isn’t returning. Not exactly sure why Gibby was scrapped as well, but I’m sure they’ll touch upon it too. P.S I’m so sorry to hear what you’ve went through by making this review. I seriously hope you are okay now. Maybe the writers did this just to stick it to the shippers that they knew wouldn’t listen to iStart a Fan War, so they could be like “See, we told you this show shouldn’t be about shipping!” But if that was the case, why were they still teasing ships later in the series after they broke up? This is the narrative in a lot of media. No matter what, you have to put with a your toxic girlfriend's/wife's garbage because you are so lucky to have her. The Big Bang Theory was bad at relationships. Leonard and Penny was probably the most toxic when you examine it. It was admitted outright that she was worn down by Leonard and that she settled. Howard and Bernadette had many problems, not least of which being when she wanted Howard to sign a prenup. He refused initially and then was told by Penny to sign whatever she gave him, because he was so lucky to have her. The worst was probably Priya, she was hiding their relationship from her parents and even had the gall to order Leonard not to see Penny again. Even though Penny hangs out in their larger social circle which included her own brother. It would have made more sense to say, "Don't hang out with Penny alone." This makes sense, because everybody has the right to feel safe and comfortable in a relationship. This trend continues throughout so many shows, no matter how nasty the woman is, the guy stick it out because, once again, he is so lucky to have her. No wonder so many men aren't dating and getting married anymore. The dominant narrative has destroyed any idea of a healthy relationship. It's just sad. The earlier point about TBBT is not to say that only the women had toxic elements; the guys had many toxic elements in their personalities too.

I really ended up just watching it for Jerry Trainor as Spencer, something about his goofy carefree nature just made me really enjoy the show to the point as a kid could ignore just the genuinely awkward feeling from a lot of the deeper implications.
