Welcome to the fifth episode of Bottom of the Bakery, where I look at bad episodes of shows produced by Schneider's Bakery (iCarly, Sam and Cat, Victorious, Henry Danger and possibly Drake and Josh).
This episode is bizarre. It turns protagonists into bullies, glorifies being a criminal, and attacks anyone who is interested in collecting stuffed animals. Also Spencer is a terrible guardian and a crazy hypocrite... but you knew that already.

I have officially come to the conclusion that Dan Schneider, as well as the writers of his shows, hate nerds. Literally almost every nerd character in Schneider's shows are portrayed as irritating people with no lives and should be bullied for their choice in lifestyle 24/7. Not to mention that they need to be constantly told that they will never be in a relationship JUST because they are nerds. This occurs even when one of the main characters is a nerd and honestly, it's just down right offensive to me. As a 19-year-old girl who watches cartoons, likes to draw, has action figures, as well as a certain amount of stuffed animals, this episode, as well as Schneider's portrayal and treatment of nerds, feels like a giant middle finger to me -_-

02jujubean As a 16-year-old boy who has Asperger's Syndrome, (that's not an excuse for bad behavior. I'm not one of those idiots) has been nerdy all his life, a sane Sonic fan, a collector of video games from the Sega Genesis all the way to the 3DS, and has a Pikachu plush, Schneider's portrayal of nerds is insulting. What's kind of funny, is that a lot of people like to joke that nerds like us will never be in a relationship, but I just never found the right woman to start a relationship with. (Or in your case, a man) Looks do matter, but what's most important to me, are the interests and personality of the opposite sex. I don't mean to offend, that's just how I feel.

Idea Insanity You could say that's against nerds, Back in the late 80s and all throughout the 90s, consoles were seen as kid's toys. Now in the 2010s, major media outlets like ABC News, MSNBC, Fox News, and CNN are saying that video games are the cause of recent school shootings in the United States. Even in 1999, when the Columbine Shootings happened, media outlets were saying that Doom and Marilyn Manson made Harris and Klebold shoot the school, even though they were actually fans of Rammstein. I'm not saying that Rammstein caused them to go insane, as I enjoy their music. Society has been "anti-nerd" for decades. Sorry for the politics. When you said that Schneider's mind is stuck in the 90s, that's what I immediately thought about.

icecream hero Not really. As the seasons went on, she actually got more violent and abusive. She literally beats the shit out of Gibby in a horrific and terrifying way when Carly accidentally slips out about Gibby revealing to Freddie’s mom about the relationship between Sam and Freddie (he did it because he became Sam’s punching bag once she got with Freddie). She also violently beats up an older school bully to defend Carly after she was pushed. She even opens up a T-shirt factory and going overboard with illegal child labor.

I remember watching these episodes when I was younger and being absolutely confused as to why Griffin was considered attractive, I was more into guys who were a little dorky and shy like me. Then the second episode came around and I found his pee wee babies to be really adorkable and I was like "so he's got a bit more going on then, that's interesting". So yeah I was confused when Carly was suddenly against him for his hobby, I mean she's done way weirder things in the past and it's just a hobby of his it's not his ENTIRE personality. So when he broke up with her I was like "Yeah Griffin, you deserve better than her" because she was just so shallow and only wanted some generic stereotypical bad boy. Personally Griffin as the bad boy/stuffed animal collector is far more interesting than just Griffin the "bad boy" because he had more than one side to him. Although I got really angry when they kept making fun of him, it wasn't funny it was just horrible. I had plenty of weird things I liked as a kid so it just made me side with him more, but that was the last we ever saw of Griffin (as far as I know, I never watched iCarly that much... for good reason).

MissEdge102 Oh, he returned in a future episode where the entire city was suffering from a heat wave and Carly's apartment was the only one with working air condition (don't ask, it's a long story). All of the apartment's inhabitants gathered up in Carly's to keep cool, and that's when Griffin showed up (it was only a cameo, though). They managed to flanderize him even further by having him show up with a cart full of his stuffed animals, claiming that they need to be kept cool or something. Then he proceeded to act even more "weird". It was totally out of nowhere, although it's funny if you stretch it and assume that Griffin showed up at Carly's apartment with his stuffed animals just to piss her off. XD

+MissEdge102 Carly dumped him because he wasn't the 1-dimensional stereotype she told herself she likes with no real background or personality hints. I hated that episode as a kid because it only reinforced that prejudice saying women are shallow to boys with character and that women *should* be shallow, because guys cant have their own guilty pleasures that most girls like themselves already. The thing I hate about this show is that carly is *always* right, even when shes the selfish one.

You know what really astounds me about this episode? I think it could've actually worked with a bit of retooling. Here's how I'd fix the episode: Griffith's mother is fighting somewhere overseas with the U.S Army. Because he and his mother are so close and knowing a thing or two about the dangers of war, Griffith is extremely worried that he isn't going to see her again and he does things like stealing motorcycles and skipping school and whatnot in the hopes that it will get his mother's attention and motivate her to come home. In the meanwhile, he tries to find ways to cope with the situation by collecting and playing with Pee Wee babies which is an interest he and his mother have in common. However, he finds out that this only makes the fear of losing his mother worse but feels like has no other option. When Carly finds out about this on one of her visits to his house, she tells Griffith that she has a parent involved in combat as well and tries to help Griffith come up with more ways to deal with his mother being away that doesn't involve getting into trouble such as sending care packages, sending emails or letters, and spending time with friends and other family members as the episode progresses by trying each tip to see which one works best for him. By the end of the episode, Griffith has an easier time coping with his situation and Carly learns the importance of helping others through tough times and how there's more to a person than meets the eye. This gives the audience a better idea of why Griffith does the things he does while at the same time giving the audience a reason to care about him. We also get to see much more character development from both Griffith and Carly as they both learn something from each other.

To add on another point, the drill part of the episode pissed me off quite a bit, because it was like Carly was trying to "fix" Griffin; the episode was pretty much saying "Griffin isn't a one dimensional bad boy, he has a soft side, so Carly is trying to fix that by giving him a stereotypical manly gift in hopes that she can make him a one-dimensional bad boy again, because that's who he's supposed to be, instead of a freak who collects stuffed animals." I find often that a lot of these tough, masculine dudes generally have a softer side, because they often can't handle the pressure of conforming to one personality all the time. This episode pretty much spat in the face of any guy who is like that, saying "you're a freak if you don't constantly conform to what everyone believes who you are".

The first part is amusing but the second part is abysmal. There is nothing wrong with a teenager or an adult collecting toys or watching cartoons. I'm glad most people understand that, but this episode paints it like it's a sin. "NO! You must remain a 'bad boy!' You can't collect stuffed animals! That's 'out of character!'" Bite me, iCarly.

***** For me this was the special was the final nail-to-coffin that made me no longer liking this show. In regards Carly's personality (in not just this special but throughout the series) I've always felt as though the writing at times was trying to be a female version of Drake from "Drake and Josh," since both characters are popular kids with an amazing talent and attract individuals of the opposite sex. However, unlike Carly, Drake reasons in of dumping someone, won't be so mundane, as them having different interests . For example, in the episode, "Smart Girl" he realizes that the girl he's dating has intellectual interests, and instead of trying to change her in order to appease his merits, he joins the academic team for her, granted it was unintentionally, but it at least he tried and it showed that he accepts her for who she is even though they both have different hobbies. Carly's merits for a boyfriend are Twilight levels unrealistic, and instead of at the very least attempting to understand Griffin's passion for Pee Wee Babies, she instantly sees him as weirdo and doesn't want anything to do with him unless he meets her requirements to a tee.

This episode is just awful. It's basically saying that boys who don't fit masculine stereotypes, regardless of how "bad" they are otherwise, they are terrible people, even if their hobby is harmless. I know this is gonna sound very "Tumblr user" of me (I spend too much time there, tbh), but it's just negative gender stereotyping on both sides. Carly is shallow and Gryphon (or however they spelled it) is a walking checklist of bad boy stereotypes but that's not what makes him bad, it's the one stereotype of a little girl that makes him bad. Stealing motorcycles and skipping school? Pffft, whatever, that's hot ;) Collecting stuffed animals? *OH MY GOD IT'S THE WORST THING EVER! GET TO THE SHELTER, HIDE YOUR CHILDREN, IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD!!!* Even when this episode first came out and I was still in middle school and wasn't _that_ into equality movements, I was shaking my head and saying, "That's not funny. So what, he's got a hobby, what's wrong with that?" Carly was SOOOO into him and then just broke up after like two days because of a hobby. If it was bugging her so much, she should've broken up with him instead of letting him find out the hard way and sending this message to boys that if you do something outside of your stereotype, there is something wrong with you. Oh wait, that would make Carly look like the bad guy for "not giving him a chance"; no, she can only be the one to break up when it's the guy who's the problem to the point of abuse (or whatever the abuse equivalent is for whatever the rating is), because then it's "GIRL POWER!" Again, this show was decent in the beginning, but the longer it went on, the worse it got with its depiction of people just the tiniest hair outside of the ordinary (you know, other than our extraordinary cast who is obnoxiously different but we're supposed to root for while simultaneously booing anyone else outside the friend group who's different for some reason).

JasminePaygeBrooke So the lesson of the episode if that girls should be into bad and rebel boys and if a boy has an interest that doesn't fit the "bad boy" stereotype, they should dump him. What a great lesson that definetly won't make girls end up in abusive relationships. The point that Carly was only interested in this boy, not because of him as a person, but because her idea of him as a "bad boy" wasn't even treated as a problem. She never bothered to learn anything about him before dating the guy, only that he seemed like a bad boy and, like everyone knows, "bad boys are the best".

Seriously, stuffed animals? Why couldn't they have it be something more realistic like pictures of ex-girlfriends, and have him remember (with some fondness) little things they did while together? That would be a more legitimate reason to have the relationship fall apart since Carly would wonder if she's dating a heartbreaker on top of a "bad boy."
@billcipher2604

HopelessRomantic999 Or they could have showed that dating a "bad boy" isn't really as good as young girls like Carly tend to think showing the consequences of dating someone who is a bad person. The only way that guy dating Carly not as bad as an idea was showing that he has a sensitive side, and aparently, that's the thing that ruins him for Carly. The fact that he's more than a rebelious jerk.

My god you hit the nail perfectly on the head here. Looking back, this episode is ABYSMAL. And like Choir Boys destroys SpongeBob's character I sorta feel like this episode destroyed Carly's character. Also, I think another thing that could've salvaged this episode is if Griffin had showed that he was actually embarrassed to be a lover of Pee Wee Babies and begged Carly not to tell anyone but then he finds out she not only told Sam and Freddie but they openly mock him for it, it could've put Carly in the wrong and gotten the message out a lot better.

I don't think I have to spell out why I hate this goddamned episode. Sure, it came a year before it was a thing, but the fact that this toxic message of "If you are a fan of toys or things considered girly, then you're a freak and everyone has the right to make fun of you" still lingers on (case in point, my shallow young brother starting to mock me after watching this episode. Really, that happened) makes this episode EVEN WORSE. Good review on it, PieGuy, can't wait to see what else you tackle on.

Carly is such an awful character in general. Honestly, I don't think Nickelodeon had a worse protagonist up until that point (even Tori Vega had a personality - she was a normal (but relatable), and slightly awkward girl who tries to fit in with the crazy things in her school). Seriously, she is so bland - she hasn't got much of a set personality, and her motivations change easily - most episode she acts like such a priss, and now she dates a bad boy for the sake of being a bad boy? What sense does that make? The other main characters of this show aren't perfect, but at least they had proper personalities which didn't try to stick to stereotypes.

***** Spencer is an idiot when it comes to dating. Remember the episode where he can only get this woman he has a crush on to be interested in him if he wears a tux? Even Carly tells him it's ridiculous and he still doesn't listen. The best woman he ever dated on that show was Gibby's mother and he only broke up with her because he couldn't handle her being Gibby's mother. He kept seeing Gibby's face on her body. It was strange in that particular episode that Spencer had an issue with that and not Gibby. Usually in these types of shows the kid have an issue with their parent or guardian dating a friend's parent or teacher or what have you.

Now that I think about it, maybe this episode was designed to try and give Carly a fault. Maybe the writers were afraid of the "Mary Sue" criticism, so they gave her a flaw by making her excessively shallow. However, they screwed up on one major front: if a character (a "hero" especially) is going to do something wrong, they need to either 1. be punished, preferably in a comedic way, or 2. Learn a lesson. If you don't do that, your character will come across as extremely unlikable.

In my opinion this was the episode that shown me that the show was going down hill this episode officially pissed me off especially now as an adult. As a nerd myself I like collecting plushies and figures it's fun when I was 15 and I saw this episode I hated this episode because it was making fun of people who had a weird collection. But now as someone in their 20's and in a relationship with a guy who collects mlp stuff this episode pissed me off looking back on it. I'll admit when I 1st met my boyfriend yeah I thought it was weird he liked mlp but as collector of stuff like pokemon I didn't care too much plus he's an awesome person so I didn't care if he liked a girl show. He later got me into the show and now I have a collection of pony stuff. I saw this episode recently and this episode pretty much says if a guy likes has either a weird hobby or likes something girly dump him personality doesn't matter guys should like manly stuff guys can't like girly things those people deserve to be made fun of. Honestly this is only the tip of the iceberg how shallow carly and sam are just watch iHire an Idiot which shows wow they not only shallow their incredibly horrible people who really don't care about personality and this a show for kids between this imeet fred and iHire an Idiot this show is terrible for kids. I don't know what's worst the fact that carly shames griffin for liking pee-wee babies or the fact that she buys him a drill in hopes to change his hobby or the fact she gets away with it god this episode is terrible!

14:40 It's okay, Pie Guy - you're not crazy, I remember seeing _Phineas and Ferb_ make a similar reference to _SpongeBob_. But with that said, this episode is just awful. It's pretty much just enforcing gender stereotyping, and making the protagonist really shallow by only like bad boys because they're bad boys. I'm a guy, and I used to have girly interests at points (e.g. _The Buzz on Maggie_), but does that make me a pathetic loser? I'd like to see a show that actually portrays a guy with unmanly interests as a likeable character. I'm not sure if it would catch on with the general public, but it would be nice to see something give it a shot for once

I think one of the worst things about this episode is how pointless it is. It’s like the writers thought they wanted to give Carly an ongoing relationship, and then immediately changed their minds, so they needed some half-assed excuse to break Carly and Griffin up. And its just like, why bother at all? If you want Carly to date someone on the show, have her date them. Let Carly and Griffin get to know each other over time. Let them have relationship issues. If somewhere down the road they decide to break it off fine. But if you honestly can’t be bothered to write a relationship for her, don’t give her one. Yes, a lot of girls her age start dating, but she doesn’t necessarily need to. The show is about her having a popular webcast, focus on that. Any way, great review Pieguy. Looking forward to the next one.

***** I feel like most of Dan Schneider's shows end up with the main characters having ongoing relationships. For example, in Zoey101 by the time the show ended EVERY SINGLE MAIN CHARACTER had a steady boyfriend or girlfriend. By the halfway point of the final season Lola was the only one who wasn't dating anyone so the writers forced her into a cringeworthy relationship with the quarterback of the football team and all around selfish ass. She hated him in his first episode, but just because he spent some time in therapy between episodes and has so called changed his ways she is now interested in him. Even the rest of the cast yells at her for hooking up with him. It's like Dan believes teenagers can't get through their high school years as single people. It sets up unrealistic expectations in his target audience.

I've always hated this episode/these episodes. Carly is absolutely awful. She is so utterly shallow and ridiculous. She doesn't value Griffin as a person at all which is made clear by the fact that she immediately loses interest in him when he fails to meet her preconceived idea of a 'bad boy' - a phrase that is mostly meaningless in this episode anyways. Griffin was actually a generally nice guy, who didn't deserve the girl he liked treating him like this. Especially since, personally, I got the vibe that he didn't often share this side of him specifically for this reason.

It may work in animation but not in real life. Also the ending is a complete slap in the face. henry danger- Just review the entire show it is a big mess all together drake and josh drivers license- the few drake and josh episodes that i dislike, and this is one of them. Drake takes advantage of josh and he gets no consequence for it. The episode isn't really funny and it isn't really entertaining to watch drake take advantage of josh and him getting away with it.

At the very least iPie had somewhat of a silly charm with many of the jokes. Despite it stepping on the line many times, it was simply enough over the top to not feel offended. (And the funeral was relevant to the story and played all the time for laughs. It's not like they suddenly walked into a more realistic funeral with mourning, crying and everyone looking saddened by the passing and suddenly going straight to "steal" the recipe or something similar... Unlike certain movie which I can't stop feeling uncomfortable with)

+AnGryZaK Brain Squeezers had many problems other than the failed slap sick. For one it's a Tori torture porn. In the episode Tori has the right to want to think the decision over on who she wants to take to the game show, yet everyone around her acts so ungrateful. Jade and Trina purposely annoys her, which has Jade comment fraud with Tori's ID by passing off as Tori illegally. In which none of Tori's friends bother to defend her or tell Jade her name isn't Tori, instead all they do is compliment how Jade made it look so real. Plus the guard was stupid in not even questioning what Tori was saying, but instead treated her like everyone else. Plus the host of the game show was laughing at everyone getting hurt by dangerous objects and treats it like an oversight, coming off as stupid. It's also infuriating how Tori's friends getting mad at Tori for not getting doinked, so it's her fault for their misfortunes? Wow, great friends you have there Tori. The Breakfast Bunch is really bad, the fact it rips-off Breakfast Club is already horrible enough to warrant the bottom of the bakery title. But the episode makes little to no sense and all of the characters are just weird. In terms of Drake & Josh, I'd say the episodes Sheep Thrills, Theater Thug, Helen's Eye Surgery, Megan's Revenge and Alien Invasion are much worse.

I've always wondered what was the point of the special in the first place. Yeah, there's the 'bad boy' but if the actor playing him wasn't mainstream famous then they could have just had Griffin in two separate episodes where the second half of the special would not have been a bit strange. And the whole mocking him for the little beanie babies, yeah sure, make fun of something that makes the bad boy slightly more three dimensional than just being called a bad boy! And also, genderize collecting animals as a 'girly' thing, yeah, that's not weird behavior at all!

It's sad how people are still unable to accept those kinds of hobbies. I mean, he isn't hurtin' anyone (at least not because of that). The whole episode is terrible, and Carly seems the worst kind of teen (pretentious, MEAN SPIRITED and hollow)

I remember when i first watched the episode and all that stuck with me was that ending cause it made me mad. Oh no, the guy has something he's passionate about and they act like it's the end of the freaking world! You collect things you have a passion for, like i collect pez dispensers and fandom things. They're basically saying that since he likes stuffed toys, he's not 'normal' and i was mad she tried to make him like something 'manly' like power tools. No person is 'normal' and we all have our own likes, like he said she should have mentioned it, or even, you know, sat down and talked to him before and seen if they have any common interests. Even if i don't watch reruns of this show anymore, i still remember how annoyed i was of how it showed those who collect things and especially how they reacted. If i had someone i trusted laugh at me for what i like behind my back, i'd be pretty crushed and feel betrayed by that person, it's not comedy..! (wow, big rant there..!)

Wow. I saw this episode when it first came out, and I even liked a lot of the first half. I knew this episode had problems, but I never really thought about just how horrible of a person Carly was, even though it did bother me at the time. Though you did spend time talking over the two biggest problems I had (which both factor into how terrible this episode was in transitions.) Speaking of transitions, I feel like this was when the show started to get worse. There were still good episodes after, but I feel like every episode in Season 1 was great, and many of them in Season 2 were. After this, it got a lot more mixed.

This show I feel always had a record of not accepting different people and people with different views, it may be just me but whenever I see episodes like these, they never send the right message to the audience and instead shames them for different views and opinions. It's just sick if you ask me.

I was really naive when I was little. I never realized how shallow Carly is.🤦‍♀️ I hate myself for watching this show when I was little. *I was 16 at the time, when I saw this episode. I remember being mad at Carly for being so shallow and a massive hypocrite. I always thought Griffin having sharing something that he loves shows he had more depth to him. It was cute that he collected PeeWee Babies. All Dan Schneider's shows make me nauseous and the fact that more reactors are watching his shows, like they're not problematic.

If I ended up dating a girl that treated me the same eay that Carly treated Griffin due to my video game hobby, I would dump her as soon as possible and refuse to see the time spent with her as anything more than a distant memory. I want my personality to determine how people view me, not my hobbies; judging me based on that alone would be more shallow than a kiddie pool.

I think the episode was trying to say that it was creepy that Grif was collecting and talking to baby girl toys at an age where he shouldn't. They were trying to make Grif's liking for these things like an immature obsession, as Carly sees that he treats them like his only friends, which is kinda creepy. This doesn't stop the other flaws of this episode, but it is just the benefit of the doubt.

They literally never fired Freddy. They hired an ASSISTANT who was dumb as a bag of rocks. The only time Freddy wasn't a tech producer for iCarly is when he quit for his girlfriend in season 1 and came back when he realized that she is manipulative.

The message in this episode always bothered me since I first saw it, and now that I think about it, especially after watching this video and reading these comments, I think watching this episode may have contributed to my self-confidence/self-esteem issues that I had in high school, and still sort of have now. I'm 22 years old and on the autism spectrum, and have been into a lot of "unusual" stuff for a guy my age to be into (including cartoons). I had always been kind of self-conscious and shy because of it; people already thought I was kind of weird because I was socially awkward, so I had this fear that if I were to express these interests to anyone, nobody would like me at all. And the message this episode ended up sending only served to back up my self-consciousness. I'm actually working on my own animated show, which I'm hoping will someday get picked up by some station or animation company. One of the main goals I have with that show is that I want it to be different from most shows on TV today. And one of the ways I intend to do that is by sending positive messages in the show (as subtly as possible). Particularly, messages that shows like iCarly and Schneider's other shows (at least his recent ones) REFUSED to send, such as acceptance of those who are "different."

This whole thing feels like an old neckbeard rant on how 'girls don't want nice, sanative guys, they want leather-clad criminal bad boys who will do bad things to them'. My theory is that Snider fell down a certain forum rabbit-hole when such places were getting off the ground a few years ago, and got taken in by the overweight basement dwellers who see still being a virgin by age fourteen as a matter of greatest shame. It would explain why it's just the more recent shows that seem to have this issue.

I love all the bronies in this comment section subtly hinting at their love for MLP. If a girl questioned my love of something or my collection of whatever I decided to collect, I'm not going to immediately tell her "Well if you don't like it, then we should break up!" I would wait after I actually try to get her to see why I like what I like. At the very least, she may still think it's weird, but can at least see why and be accepting of why I like it. However, if she still sees me as some kind of weirdo for liking that certain thing and starts distancing herself from me, then I would break it off. Besides, it sounds like in the second part of this episode, Griffin talked about NOTHING but these Beanie Babies, which would get on anyone's nerves.

Oh Jesus, I forgot how unwatchably horrible this episode was. Great review, as usual. If you need any help on finding an episode for BotB, here's some suggestions: Theater Thug (D&J) - A Josh Abuse episode that makes literally no sense. Brain Squeezers (Victorious) - One of the cruelest episodes of any show I've seen in my life. Vince is Back (Zoey 101) - To be honest, I don't remember this show very well, but in hindsight this episode is every definition of stupid. iQ - (iCarly) - Probably the 10000th episode that proves Carly's shallowness.

3:09 I'm not defending this episode as it is utter garbage and you're completely right about everything else, but in regards to Spencer just randomly letting Carly and Griffin date after saying, "You kids have fun...": I don't think that was supposed to be a random transition of Spencer letting them date after being so adamantly opposed to it. Notice how when Spencer says "You kids have fun..", he says it with a very resigned inflection. I think the implication was that Spencer realized that there was no way he could stop their relationship, so he just gave up the battle. He's not happy about it, but he realized that Carly is at the age where she's going to date guys that Spencer may not like. It probably could have been conveyed a bit better, but I didn't see that as random as much as Spencer resigning the battle.

***** Yeah, it could have been conveyed much better, but I didn't see it as jarring due to how resigned Spencer said, "You kids have fun." Maybe after Carly and Griffin have their fake argument and Spencer leaves her alone, just hold a shot on Spencer looking suspicious or sad?

Huh, those two episodes are actually a special? They don't really feel like they belong to each other, at all. The second half feels like a cheap way to break up Carly and Griffin where the alternative was forgetting about Griffin's existence and ignoring the fact they kind of were together at the end of the first half.

Been waiting for you to do this one. Next to iMeet Fred, this could very well be the worst iCarly episode in the "unintentionally awful moral" catagory. It takes a bland but "OK" premise and it twists it into this idea where it's OK to dump someone for one thing you don't like about them. ONE. Tiny. Little. Insignificant. Thing that doesn't affect your relationship to them whatsoever. And suddenly, he's just not the one. The way this episode started, I was fully expecting it to be a "don't date boys you barely know" moral by the end, where Spencer would apologize to Carly for being so protective, and Carly would apologize to Spencer for going behind his back. . It's the path that is so clearly paved for the way this episode starts out, it's almost impossible to predict that they're not going to drag it out this way. Instead, they b-line from this cliche entirely for a... a joke? Is that what the Beanie Baby thing is? It's a gag? I can't... WHY else would they chose this to be the resolve of the episode unless they thought it was funnier than it actual was? I guess where I'm going with this is, that they were better off going along with the stock plot story about a boy who pressures Carly to get too involved and then Carly has to dump them and learn the lesson about being wary of bad boys, (which even then is kind of a shallow and useless message unless this show offers it's own unique insight on the potential danger of teenage dating) then jumping the shark. Beanie Babies=jumping the shark. I give credit to Pieguy for pointing out the much better alternative to this story's resolve--that the "bad boy" turns out to be very good for Carly and maybe an A+ student who hides his prowess because he's insecure, or something, but it seemed only hopeful that iCarly could pull off such a deep storyline

You know, maybe an extra scene in part one could fix some of the problems. Spencer and Griffin have a confrontation at the apartment at the end until Griffin notices Spencer's collection of... whatever it would be. Griffin reveals he's a collector too, and they kind of start to bond, and Spencer eventually decides "Maybe he's not such a bad kid after all."
