Hey Raptor, when your MK 48 detect what they believe to be countermeasures they automatically will turn 90 degrees away from the noise maker, travel a certain distance, then turn back in, to attempt to reacquire the actual sub. That's what your torpedo's were doing when they seemed to go a little goofy. They are functioning exactly as intended. Love the content man, look forward to the next one.

Just a few pointers. Towed sonar arrays mostly work out to the side not in front. So instead of pointing directly at the target area you want to turn off to the side to let the towed array work. Doesn’t need to be 90 degrees but something like 60 degrees is ok. Secondly your own speed massively reduces the capability of your sensors so upping it to 10 knots over 5 will also make you much more blind. If you want to go fast you kind of have to go active with the main array. I personally find it much better to stay at slower speeds and use a lot more time acceleration.

In regards to the awesome music, it gives me serious Toshihiko Sahashi vibes. He's the amazing composer who did the soundtrack for Zipang and Full Metal Panic, and himself clearly going for the vibes of Hans Zimmer's Crimson Tide. Seriously, if you like the music in Sea Power, check out the Zipang OST, I think you'll quite love it!

Nice vid! I can't wait for this game to be launched... Some maneuver critique: I have two essential points. First, the thermal layer, wich is some kind of a noise blocker. Submarines will usually stay below that layer so surface units can't hear them (towed array sonars will go below the layer). You went above the layer, wich made your sonar hear that Alfa pretty lately. After the first torpedo, the Alfa could successfully hide below the thermal layer from your sonar and your torp (also above the layer) and turn back on you. Better stay on the same side of the layer to find your opponent. Later, when using acitve sonar, you sped up to 20 kn (unintentionally?). That will have blocked your passive sonars pretty much with flow noises from your hull, so the Alfa could approach you closer than before. Also, your propulsion was louder so the Alfa could locate you better. So always watch your speed (situational awareness) and don't go faster than necessary. I would also have turned my boat sideways after firing the first torpedo, so my sonar would shift sideways and is able to listen past the noisemaker and the screws of my torp.

I really hope they implement better control for the sub engagements... you should be able to make those Mk-48s reattack if they bypass the target. I mean it's not like they don't have the Cold Waters model to replicate. lol

A "Hunt for Red October" scenario on a massive campaign map would be really fun. The Red October wouldn't respond to an identification request, but neither would the Soviet subs, so which one is hostile and which one is the rescue target??? Trying to figure out which one is which would be so fun imo.

Hard to imagine not eating several snapshots from the Alfa. Also, an Alfa going at 40 knots is going to be heard from Reykjavík. Doubtful you COULD lose that contact, even with torpedos in the water.

FYI Mark 48 adcap torpedoes don't actually hit the ship they go under it and blow out the water underneath it to cause it to crack in half and do more damage that way

The Alphas were fast but the PAPA was faster by five knots. Slow down, you aren’t going to hear anything at 20 KTS. And that Alpha wouldn’t knowingly allow you into his baffles! And Alphas have been clocked at 42 KTS at over 4000 feet deep, even a standard Mk48 couldn’t hang there.

Yeah the developer already acknowledged it’s a bug. Flt 1. Los Angeles class should have 25-26 torpedo-sized weapons in capacity (they don’t have VLS), including torpedoes in tubes.

Oh that's a relief that the devs have acknowledged it. They had it right in Cold Waters so I was a bit surprised to see 96 stores and 8 tubes ready to fire. But this is very early access still so I'm sure when the time comes for quality control they'll sort it out

I really want to like modern naval combat games but every single one of them makes killing Soviet ships and subs as easy as shooting fish in a barrel. I am pretty sure that had the Cold War gone hot the Soviets would have been able to surprise the west in all sorts of ways and it would have been a lot more equal than the planners had expected. Pretty stupid looking scenario if all it takes to win is to hit Fire.

@@GothicCallboy I’m not sure but it might be an RA-5 Vigilante of some kind. It doesn’t look familiar but it’s the closest I could find. It could also be an experimental or prototype that was never built or put into service that’s been added to the game. It could also be a new type of aircraft the developers made for the game but I doubt it given how much they go for realism.
