India should win the World Cup for GOAT Virat Kohli. WARNING! This is a long write-up. You are advised to skip if you don’t want to read. No irrelevant comments, please. Those who are really interested in reading may proceed. Relevant comments are welcome. India have been calling the shots in this tournament. They have been decimating the opposition teams and leaving mental scars that are hard to heal. They are functioning like a well oiled V11 engine firing on all cylinders (V12 isn’t an option, unless you want to count the 12th man too). I have made an effort to briefly highlight the special characteristics of players who make up the Indian team for what it is. This team is arguably the best ODI side to have represented India in the history of the World Cup. Not even the World Cup winning team of 2011 can match it in terms of performance. Ro’hitman Sharma, the silent and graceful assassin, he is one batter the opposition would love to watch despite the fact that he is sending them to the cleaners. The jury is still out whether his batting is more effective, or his captaincy. Shubman Gill is a star for the future itching to define greatness in the present. He was tipped to top the charts, only if it hadn’t been for a blood thirsty mosquito. GOAT Virat Kohli, already considered by many to be the best batter of his era, is the top scorer by a comfortable margin. He is hungry to win the trophy all by himself, if not, the team should win for him as a tribute to the living legend. Iyer, a player with immense talent but with a temperament that always seemed to pose the question - can persons be oxymorons? However, he has exorcised most of his demons in this World Cup and is amassing runs for India at a pace that puts India firmly in the driving seat. KL Rahul, a classy batter cast in the mould of Kohli but yet to reach his greatness. However, he has plenty of time at his disposal to establish his credentials as another great. He gives an added advantage to team India with his safe glove work. Oh yes… SKY, the best T20 player out to make a name for himself in ODIs. India’s top order is so strong that he might get less opportunities in the eleven, and if he is in, there is still no guarantee he will find opportunities to stroll down the wicket. Indians also have ‘sir’ Jadeja, the world’s best left-arm spin all-rounder and an outstanding fielder to boot. I hear a few desultory voices from Bangladesh, but I am in no mood to humour them. Boom Boom Bumrah has got all the ingredients, pace, bounce, guile, toe-crushers to send any batter to the cooler. He may not be getting wickets he deserves, but that’s no problem, he is softening batters for Siraj and Shami to feed on. Stats back Shami as the best World Cup bowler in history. He did not get a regular chance in the team, until recently, thanks to India’s problem of plenty. And thanks again to Pandya, Shami has been making the ball talk and giving batters sleepless nights. Kuldeep Yadav is a wizard with the ball graduating, it seems, from the Hogwarts School of wizardry. No batter in this tournament has picked him with certainty. He might well be the trump card in the finals. Siraj is an aggressive, attacking, fast bowler not afraid to go for a few runs. With a little help from the conditions, he can be unplayable and has the ability to run through the opposition. In Hardik Pandya, India had the best fast bowling all-rounder this side of the galaxy. Again, I hear some English moans and Aussie murmurs, but they are so feeble and perfunctory, I am unabashedly inclined to ignore them. India can afford to give him rest, at the moment. The same goes for Ashwin, arguably the world’s best exponent of off-spin but mostly getting a chance to tweak his fingers in the team dugout. Such are the bowling riches, at present, that he might be better off continuing to bite his fingernails. The saying goes… “if Bumrah doesn’t get you Siraj will, if Siraj doesn’t get you Shami will, and if Shami doesn’t get you… the spinners will”.

watching this after the tournament but the pitch was less than 300 and the ball did move. You called this correctly! And the movement in the pitch was adequate. Marnus was a correct call. There was a great call on stoping boundaries. Aus did that so well. Keeping the score in check. Head was not mentioned until 23 min. Warner was way more aggressive than you mentioned. But talking about winning the game in first 20 balls vs losing the game was very true. Sirajah was the key as he was dropped by India until the 14th over. You put Head in the same category as Marsh and Warner as taking on the power play and winning. Head was not used that way to hold mid field. He was the anchor to just calm every thing down. Kholi match was won by him...except for the end. Getting the 'pressure' right was so good in the discussion. 5 or 10 overs doesn't matter as AUS Lost the 1st 5 overs but won the first 15 overs when batting. Bowling Aus won the last '30 of 50' overs with pitching and fielding. hated the man u and footie analogies loved the football (usa) story BUT very loved the idea if you win it is because of wanted you wanted for his children. Try as you can you can't beat the master but you must try.

Yes I'm sure it was interesting to watch this after the actual game to see what we got right and what we didn't! So many discussion points that we often don't always mention everything we're thinking about otherwise we would talk for hours and hours! Still surprising to us that Siraj wasn't bowled until after the power play - but Australia made it difficult for India and that seemed to throw off the usual gameplan.
@JayakrishnanNairOmana

If India bat first, I predict 285-310, Aus get there with 8 wickets down. If Aus bat first, I predict 315 - 335, India 230 all out. Final is all about handling pressure, and Aussies have it in their genes while Indians (and also South Africans) dont. If SA won the semis, India would have won the final. Moreover, whenever Richard Kettleborrough umpires a knock out game, India ALWAYS lose.

Shami or Bumrah at 8 looks like a weakness but it hasn't remotely mattered. Leaving out the injured Nathan Lyon Ravichandran Ashwin is surely the world's best spinner but he hasn't had a sniff. India hasn't missed Hardik Pandya at all. I think the pitch is a red herring and agree with what you say. This pitch was last used on October 14th so surely it barely qualifies as a used one.
