It's hard to have a conversation online about prices because of how many US people there are with their perspective being completely irrelevant to the rest of the world. In my country the 4070 Super costs the same as the 4070ti, while the 7900XT is that exact same price and is much better at raster and almost equal in RT. Moving down the stack it's the same story, where the only reason to buy Nvidia is for DLSS, because their RT performance isn't above and beyond each price point and of course is a tier below in raster (like you said a 7700XT vs a 4060 is no competition). I'm pretty sure Nvidia is only making money outside the US from prebuilts and business use, and AI/crypto shovel-selling.

The greatest trick Nvidia ever pulled was convincing the world that ray tracing was the inevitable future of gameplay and fidelity. When in reality it is marketing for their overpriced GPUs. And I say that as an Nvidia owner. My next card will be AMD, and I will not miss future ray tracing performance as much as I currently miss the extra 8GB my 3070 should have shipped with.

Raytracing was the answer to a question no one was ever asking. Remember when the 2000 series with RT came out, there was not a single game that supported it (for months to follow). And up to this date the majority of ppl. either dont use RT or cant even tell the difference between on and off. Because guess what, there where existing solutions to things like, shadows, lighting, reflections,... already built into engines (not requiring special hardware). Same with DLSS, while its results are better, i think FSR is the better implementation overall - its open source, it can run on any GPU, doesnt require tensor cores, und most importantly: its easy to implement by devs, because it does not required an AI Model to be trained for each game specifically. But my biggest critique on nvidia is pricing. They were responsible for skyrocketing prices of the 2000 series by selling to miners first and intentionally creating shortages. To be fair: AMD quickly followed that path. But what about the last 2 years: nvidia made insane amounts of money with enterprise business. It would not have hurt them even a little to bring back prices for the gamers to a reasonable level. But no, they kept up the preassure - also on its partners. Thats the reason why EVGA left the game - no time to develop a product, nothing but restirctions in terms of design and prices from nvidia,... for what? To earn 50$ when selling a 2500$ card? Sorry for the long rant...
@sasagrcevic4753 ай бұрын
@@thed8278 Was there ever a person who played a game, stopped and said: "My god this RT looks so good". Normal person can't even notice if its on or off while gaming. You follow the story, shot things, think about tactics, read, solve puzzles, etc. We all care for good visuals but this shit is pure 100% marketing trick to fool people into giving hundred of dollars for something they don't even understand that well. And somehow it worked. Same with DLSS and FSR. Meaning these "new" cards don't have power to deliver the results they market. We still test shit on 1080p for some reason. 20 years later. Imagine that. Now they market 4k cards for 3 generations. Yeah, right. And only top of the offer can push it decently.

but, you do know that nvidia supported the 1000 series / maxwell longer than amd supported their RX series/ polaris and vega which came out later than the 1000 series ? support is winding down for the last GCN products (Polaris and Vega). There is a driver for RDNA+Polaris_Vega in the release notes (underneath main driver link), but GCN is probably only getting critical security updates and bug fixes at this point (aside from WDDM driver model updates). While Nvidia still updates maxwell regularly. Yeah they supported polaris/vega for over 7 years but nvidia supported maxwell (gtx700 series) for over 8 years. Now nvidia has cut em off but still supports the 1000 series which is the gpu generation today that is the one that has been out for the longest between both nvidia and AMD, as of today nvidia supports their cards longer back than amd does, the thing amd does that is good is that FSR works for every amd card out there no matter generation, so making a gpu jump based on "amds history in maintaining software features for their old gen" is factually very wrong and not valid at all if you actually look up their respective closures regarding support on various gpu series...

I've loved my 7900xt, but allegedly the 8800xt will be comparable to the 7900xt and supposedly better in some RT workloads. I think the continuous improvements of fsr and afmf will continue to improve over time. If you're set on getting a new AMD GPU right now and want decent RT capabilities, the 7900gre is only an extra 50$ and should have a nice uplift over the 7800xt. They both compete well with 4070 cards and definitely have the edge on the 3070. Another thing I'll recommend is doing as much research as you can, look for videos showcasing the GPUs you're interested in and how they perform in the games you play. These newer games are eating lots of vram, so I'd think either one would be a better long term investment than a 4070 or 4070s.

Since I read it so many times here: Undervolt and OC your GPU, always, regardless of the brand. GPUs come way overtuned mostly to make sure most silicon runs stable. They dont want to have cards returned just cause of stability issues so the sell them on high voltage settings at stock. Even my 7900xtx sapphire nitro+ went from 420W stock to 280W on full load (less than a stock 4080) while never crossing 50C°. No performance loss. And Im not into extreme undervolting or overclocking. These are super standard stable settings and Im just amazed how the card performs while being so extremely cool. UV+OC your (somewhat) modern GPU, whatever u have. Literally 0 risk, your GPU lives longer, ur system is cooler and u safe some money too. The worst that can happen is that a game makes your system crash and it goes back to default GPU settings automatically. Just follow a guide on youtube, takes only a few minutes but gets u so many benefits.

I'm running a 7900X / 7900XTX in 4k on a 32" Samsung Odyssey Neo G7. I've been playing games in 4k for about 6 years now, moving from the RTX 2080 (upgrading from a GTX 1070 in 1440p), up to the 3080 Ti, up to the 7900XTX. In my opinion, getting the best possible visuals in 4k has nothing to do with RT being on (with the major exception being Cyberpunk). It usually has everything to do with whether or not you can run the game in native 4k res. (Also by wasting a lot of money upgrading your GPU every gen.) This means disabling upscaling supersampling tech like FSR/DLSS/XeSS. I can do this with the 7900XTX in everything I play, and it's why I love it. I don't like FSR, DLSS, or XeSS as I find everything looks a little blurry and feels a little more sluggish regardless of which one you are using. (This is less of a problem in lower resolutions where objects don't look as sharp due to the lower res.) The blurriness tends to get A LOT worse as the polygons get further away from you: looking at objects like trees, mountains, animals, etc., look blurrier the further away they are with supersampling enabled. This is something you can't really experience watching YT reviews, and it's something that only became completely clear to me once I was able to stop using supersampling with the 7900XTX. Even if you have to lower your settings to to high or medium, native 4k looks better than ultra quality with supersampling enabled. EDIT: Also, Adrenalin is so much better than GeForce Experience that it boggles the mind that NVIDIA took so long to create a new software solution.

People who fight over who has the best ray tracing is ridiculous. Ray tracing is a fad that will be put into game engines anyways. ray tracing is technology from the 70's first invented to predict lighting effects so manufacturers could cut the perfect diamond. Games are looking so amazing these days the only way you can tell if ray tracing is on or off is by looking at your FPS, there is a reason its usually shown how amazing it looks in games 10+ years old. This is Nvidia's go to argument of why they are better, and yes, Nvidia does have better ray tracing but that has always been my least priority when it comes to gaming lol. 20:48 is the exact reason why Nvidia has been able to charge whatever they like for their underperforming cards. If someone gave me a free 4090 TI, I'd sell it to another sucker. I had only 4 major issues with my 3 years of using AMD RX 6600. I worked around 2 of them by downgrading the driver until the next update fixed it. One was Windows automatically updating my GPU drivers for some reason, and the last one seems to be an anomaly with my specific card, where Square Enix's GotG runs horribly. I also play all my single-player games on Linux and never had to even worry about a single issue, other than how to overclock my card like I do in Windows... and also GotG running horribly (which is why I think it's an anomaly). Nvidia has completely sold most of the average and the rich gamers on the idea of RTX, frame-gen, etc. This is like believing that you have a chance of having a relationship with an Instagram model that you have crush on, only to end up being the camera operator and a tool to enhance their public perception, just like Nvidia has become one of the highest valued companies. Say what you want about AMD and Intel, they have done more for benefitting the entirety of the consumer computers by publishing open-source firmwares and drivers, and being much cheaper with performance beyond acceptable for the price. I praise and curse them wherever they deserve. I'm able to see which of their actions are beneficial to everyone in the long-term and/or the consumers as a whole, and I hope more people are able to do so too.

@@fubkegt4964 I have no issues in recommending the RX 6600, just make sure to turn off the automatic driver updates from Windows because it will automatically download and update the GPU drivers to something older than what AMD offers. So do the usual research for the GPU that fits your needs for the budget you have.

I think game developers are the ones who re pushing RT not really NVIDIA but nevertheless... Anyway, let's say you play on 4k and you want the best out there to keep things maxed out ... And for the price of it, you can partially also thank to AMD for that for not having a competitive card to 4090...and giving more reasons to NVIDIA to charge it as much as they want.
@aaronplays_9 ай бұрын
@@Need4FPS I'm a reasonable person, I don't see the point in gaming at 4K. And my point still stands for it -- those who want that are being exploited because they can't get 4K out of their head. AMD knows that most of their customers are the ones who don't want or can't afford Nvidia's prices, so they don't even bother aiming to compete against 4090.

I like to have an interview with clients to see what their use case, games, and expectations are, and I'll often suggest an amd card, but sometimes that literally loses the sale, because obviously "I couldn't be a professional if I'm suggesting a 7800xt over a riced triple fan RGB 4060 ti" Maybe the 8000 series will live up to the leaks.

Been using a sapphire nitro 7900xtx on my rig for nearly a year now and it’s been an absolute pleasure. Forgot how good sapphire were at making AMD cards. Great performance, no coil whine, quiet, no crashes or issues, great temps. Basically plug in and forget.

built about a year and a half ago, making the switch then... so far I have ZERO regrets (only went with a 6650XT myself, but the previous rig was an RT 1660 so descent upgrade) no regrets so far.... toughest thing Ive run on it was Starship Troopers Extermination and at the time NO ONE got solid performance out of it.. its gotten a lot better though, not gonna lie. And I will be pushing Helldivers 2 on it soon enough.... borther is on console and I want him to be able to join in the fun.

I recently bought the RX 6800; it was my first upgrade from the GTX 1660, and all I can say is that it feels like switching from the Skoda Fabia to the BMW 5 series. Very high performance and total quietude. The only "bad" side is its massiveness; I'm going to buy some support bracket to fix that.
@aquss339 ай бұрын
I bought an amd gpu (rx 6650 xt) and experienced major issues even after doing DDU stuff and everything, I only managed to fix it by using the "minimal install driver only" install options on the driver installer and actually got the studio driver because the amd drivers were causing blue screens (definitely amd signed DLLs or other files were the causes, I checked the logs and minidumps) and were making my monitor freeze in place when using google chrome, word, blender, photoshop, darktable, lightroom... , 40% of the time not even a driver reset via the shortcut (ctrl-shift-b, I think) would work and I'd just have to turn off my pc using the power button. Going from a gtx 950 2gb which couldn't run davinci resolve at any frame rate to a gtx 1660 super which was amazing at it (1080p60 from a 2017 DSLR), going to an rx 6650 xt was definitely a downgrade (lagging just as you mentioned with any effects, color grading or even text and transitions, barely managed to complete my latest project on it, but it works now, I guess) and for 2.5x the cost it's disappointing, even though I mostly edit photo and not video, I still do it somewhat often. My Blender performance also decreased and the app would just shut down randomly without an error message exactly like in that other guy's video that you mentioned (I got really scared when I found out that was a common issue a few months ago, though it fixed itself with the studio driver), another thing that fixed itself was the google chrome and word issues, word would have flickering text issues and I was struggling so much while writing my 10 page essay about opossums (lol, don't know why that's funny) that I actually learnt LaTeX even though I had a 3 day deadline, that's probably the only other good thing besides the increased gaming performance as I now use LaTeX for everything from physics to math to random ass projects I do that involve equations, I even used LaTeX for my German homework... no game ever crashed though, they all work flawlessly except cs2 on release which was dogshit, it still runs under 90 fps most of the time, but that might be because of my weak old ryzen 5 2600 CPU, but performance this low? going from 260 fps in csgo on a dirty old gtx 950 with the i7 2600 and 300 fps with the ryzen 5 to this sussy mess where it drops below 50 was a definite slap in the face from valve. Not gonna say AMD is trash, not that I had any problems gaming, it was just really shitty for my very mixed "programming, photography, videography, physics, math, random school stuff, 3d rendering" workflow... Also, I experienced crashes in premiere pro and photoshop when clicking on the "pop up buttons that bring up those tutorial menus", though I don't use adobe software anymore (I got a free 1 month sub so I tried the apps, I had prior experience using 2015 versions back in 2019 on an athlon II X2 220 and they were fine, I don't like the new version though, they kind of look like phone apps lol, really unprofessional and cheap, way too hard to use as well). Sorry for the long comment, just wanted to share my experience with AMD.

Trust me it's your 2600. I had a 2700 non-x paired with a 2060super, and doing normal things felt like glue after a month of two of a fresh windows install. I upgraded to a 5600 on the same motherboard with a new bios and practically doubled my frames in cpu limited scenarios. CSGO went from 150 fps to 500-600 fps (before cs2 came out). Windows haven't slowed down ever, it's been 2 years since I dropped in the 5600 with a new windows install.

Hopefully your experience doesn't discouraging from supporting good competition. There's a reason why Ryzen CPUs occupy 7 out of top 10 sellers on Amazon, and have woken up Intel to compete in the past few years. Yes, Intel and Nvidia have this mindshare that they're stable and reliable, but nothing is 100% unbreakable right?
@aquss339 ай бұрын
@@Salty_Nutella I'm not really in the mood for an upgrade as I'll likely be needing a laptop in about 12 months for university. Though the ryzen 5 2600 has been great in csgo running at well above 250 fps all the time, it has been underperforming in cs2. That may be true, but all my other very shitty experiences are 100% GPU related as I've gotten better performance with a gtx 950 in some cases which is around 5x weaker I believe.

I switched to my 6800XT when it came out and have found it to be a great card, stable and performing well so far. Did it because at the time the GPU prices were still high and this was far cheaper vs the nVidia equivilant at the time. I also preferred to go with a card that did not require an account to download updates.

i'm quite amazed by those kind of "experiments" like it's special, i used ATI/AMD graphics and GPUs since the 3D rage pro from 1998 and never had a problem, ditched NV since the geforce 4ti4200 and never looked back, i'm still integrating NV's gpu's on the builds i do for customers, mostly for productivity/content creation but for 100% "gamers" , you'll get better bang for your bucks with a radeon most of the time...
@Gaffed_Up8 ай бұрын
Honestly, I switched to AMD simply because I like the company and it's mission more. Nvidia doesn't care about gamers and continuously screws us over. They only care about dirty money and crypto-miners, regardless who they fuck over on the way. AMD is a company of gamers, for gamers. They care about their fans, work hard to improve their products, and price their products fairly. At the end of day, the choice to switch was easy for me. I'd rather feel like a gamer than a chump getting squeezed for money.
@rockapartie7 ай бұрын
Mining is a bad example, because the vast majority of AMD cards went to miners during the mining craze and Nvidia actually released LHR (low hashrate) cards (the protection was circumvented after a year, but still) to get cards to gamers.

Your content is great, but, you should've postponed this vid to release around now. (8months post switch) That is because 12 hours of gametime over 6 months is borderline laughable if you're trying to compare it to your time with Nvidia cards, which is at least 10-fold, this comparison is too ambiguous to be taken at face value.

I had 1060 6GB last year before eventually switched to RX6800. But after having 6800 for about a year and half, I'd switch back to GeForce for a reason: AMD driver software. It's been years and they are still unable to fix issues on their driver. From pixelated rendered from Radeon adrenaline recording, Premiere Pro acting crazy, to in-game bugs in some games, especially in COD MW3. I don't know about the others, but in Warzone, if I play for few hours, I will experience this thing: flashy white objects (doors, gulag) and audio loss (no sounds from crates). Tried it on Nvidia, never had any issues. Mad thing. Anywyay, I enjoyed your content. Subscribed already. Cheers!

IMHO, most people don't seem to understand how RDNA3 works. The "voltage" control isn't the same as previous versions. The voltage setting is maximum amount it can be "offset", the most wattage you can draw basically. I found 1125mv-1130mv worked best. The Core frequency controls the total draw and to a minor degree the fps cap(2965= +8% max fps -3% on 1% fps/ 447 watts). If you set a RX 7900 XTX to 2665 core max, the video memory to 2714 with default timings, voltage to 1130, and fan to 35% max, you will find it runs about 365watts max with 55 C core, 78 C mem junction, and 75 C hot spot after HOURS of gaming. I run dual 1080p 144mhz refresh AOC monitors using Display Port. My Uningine: Heaven (defaults) benchmark was 9674. I lock fps to 120 in all the games I play and don't see any issues, even with unoptimized games like Palworld.
@Nobody-su9km14 күн бұрын
You shouldn't need to be an computer engineering major to enjoy gaming! It is still a design flaw and people shouldn't need to do all the things you quoted just to enjoy gaming! NVIDIA can easily do the same thing, but this translate to the publicity, not everyone is a nerd for computers and some just wanna plug and play. The fact that you HAVE TO do this on a card just to get it running at a competitive level with the other brand is enough to make it unjustifiable.
