I think it's a good thing that the CPU market isn't totally monopolized by a single company, and is more divided as it is currently. I like to see competitiveness, gives us better products. I know that the difference in performance between ddr4 and ddr5 is a few percentage points here and there, but for most people who are looking to purchase a 12400f or a 12100f are on a budget and are probably going for 3600mhz ddr4. You could probably snag a 32gb kit for the price of a 5600mhz kit of 16gb of ddr5 (at least where I live). IMO, the extra memory is better than the added speed
@nepnep68947 ай бұрын
Do not go for 3600 DDR4, get cheaper DDR5 instead. Locked ADL and RPL skus have a locked VCCSA voltage basically making anything above 3200 gear1 down to the silicon lottery. DDR5 doesn't seem to care as much and you can do even 7200 on some 12400 just fine. If you enable XMP for anything above 3200 in almost every scenario you will actually be slower by default since it will halve your IMC clockspeed. With DDR5 speeds gear2 is fine, but at slower speeds like 3600 this is a problem.

The 400 variants of the last couple of intel generations have been fantastic chips. Really good prices for what they offer and not too power hungry either. In my eyes some of the best value intel had to offer in recent years.

@@notluminaire I have the same board as yours. It's MSI's "latest" revision of that board, which comes with a rebranded AMD WIFI 6 module. The WIFI board originally comes in two WIFI flavors, Intel WIFI AC and AX. Somehow MSI decided to replace the AC version with an AMD WIFI 6 module. Free upgrade I guess?

Conclusion: Ryzen 5 5600/X, 5700X is cheaper and better. You're not going to pair a 12400 with DDR5.

The 12400f is a solid if boring cpu, but depending on prices, I prefer to recommend the 12600kf, it's usually $20-30 higher, and you get those 4 cute little efficiency cores for extra processing power. But, if it's significantly cheaper, there's no reason to not, at least, consider the 12400f.
@NathanBinks7 ай бұрын
I rather have the i5 12400 with the IGPU so I can have that QuickSync goodness.
@tomthomas34997 ай бұрын
How much performance difference if it's using DDR4? cause afaik people that upgrade to 12th gen or Ryzen 5600 already have decent DDR4 memory and thus keep it under tight budget, if they upgrade their ram to DDR5 they probably gonna go AM5 route instead.
@christianmino37537 ай бұрын
I don't understand why people are such fans of this chip. It is literally the i3 12100f except it has an extra couple cores. The I-5 12600k is nasty, has served me well since I've gotten it, has six P -cores and usually overclocks great. I understand the allure of a cheap i-5, but in my opinion as someone who upgraded from the i3 12400f to the i5 12600k. The price difference is not enough to justify going with the cheaper chip. You should really think about what you need to do with that machine and if it's just gaming I would completely forget about the 12400f and either go with the 12100f or the 12600k because the performance difference between the 12100f and the 12400f it's so minimal that as long as the game you are playing doesn't require more than four cores you will have absolutely no problems. Also, now that a couple years is done by and these chips have gone down in price you can get a 12600k, a z690, 16 GB of ddr4 3200 for a bundle deal for $150 consistently at micro center. Ddr4 is still blazing fast even if ddr5 is much faster. You're starting to get to the point where you don't always need the latest and greatest. But let me tell you it performs. I have never gotten below 60 FPS in any game 1440p with an RTX 3080 paired with the I-5 12600k. I play exclusively AAA single player titles, I emulate Nintendo switch so I can upscale the games to 4k, play them on my TV and have a console like experience but what it should be. 60 FPS and upscaling switch games to 4K is awesome. Anyway sorry about this whole rent, I just hate to see all these people wasting money on the 12400f when the 12600f is widely available, stupid cheap, and still performs dope as s***

There is something very wrong with Fortnite since the last update, I thought it was my drivers, but it's not. The game can't keep stable frames. Whereas I had a nice 120 Fps that would dip into the 90s in a big fight, Now I am seeing drops into the single digits that rip you right out of the game. Fortunately with the rubberbanding this causes is happening to everyone so we are all suffering. With that said, it seems to be a server side issue. Prior to the last update I had some of the best performance I have had in game since they introduced UE5. It is such a shame they destroyed it in one little update.
