The expression on his face is cool. Much more energy then a lot of other lecturers. Love to listen to him. Greetings from a low rated Belgian player.

Tis a good weapon for study. However Esserman's mayhem in morra is where real dynamite is found.

I agree, the 7.a3!? line is worth considering, and i think Black's best reaction is playing Bd7 followed by Bc6 here

You shoul really play Tiviakov´s line instead.In my opinion is much more interesting.It goes as follows: 1.e4 c5 2.d4 cxd4 3.c3 Nf6 4.e5 Nd5 5.Nf3 e6 6.cxd4(sometimes you have to take the pawn!)d6(that impressive center must be challenged)7.a3!?(Sergei Tiviakov´s favorite move,the idea of the move is to prevent any black´s intrussions on b4,specially of a Knight,and then later play Bd3 very comfortably,pointing directly to h7,where the King is gonna invariably castle).Much better tan Bc4and Bb3
@JimJWalker11 жыл бұрын
You should have examined 3...e5. I have spent quite some time with Houdini looking at this move and there is no outright refutation. In fact, I think it may be fertile ground to surprise a Morra player.

I checked it again too. It's your blurb sayihnhg "don't forget to like this video,etc" underneath which blocks the board. After this it dissipaters and is ok. Sorry, many of these addition could be put outside, we can choose what we want to do! anyway, On with the video which I find very interesting, thank you!

Gambits like this are good for blitz games. I would let the black pawn keep eating my pawns, turning into Danish gambit, and enabling fianchetto of bishop (takes pawn). Thanks.

Please Mr. GM Ronen Har-Zvi give me your opinion! If Black tries to play the Alapin against the Morra I've found the following line interesting! !.e4 c5 2. d5 cd: 3.c3 Nf6 4.e5 ( ! ) Nd5 5.Bc4!? Nb6 6.Bb6 cd: 7.Nc6 Playing Black doesn't seem easy here. The Nb6 blocks the b pawn and is away from defensive duties on the king side! My first impression is that this is better than the average Morra Gambit. Am I right?

I don't like 3...d3 for Black, I play the Morra with White and I've never had a bad game against it. I play 4.Bxd3 and I've always followed up with 5.c4. I usually end up with a pretty big time advantage and a better position after the first 15 moves because it's so simple to play, even if I'm playing stronger opponents.

Hey, perhaps you could put board coordinates. It will help slower players see piece movement, for example, easier. Awesome video nonetheless.

Engines aren't great with openings, they cannot appreciate long-term positional benefits very well and completely ignore the psychology. 1.e4 c5 2.d4 cxd4 3.c3 e5 4.Nf3 Nc6 5.Bc4 Nf6 6.Ng5 leads to some positions similar to the Fried-Liver Attack. One game went 6...d5 7.exd5 Nxd5 8.Qb3 Be6 9.Nxe6 fxe6 10.Qxb7 Rc8 11.0-0 Be7 12.Qa6 0-0 13.Nd2!. The Bishop pair and better pawn structure give White an edge.

Under 1800 players can not fully appreciate long-term positional benefits either. One slip and a game is over in this realm.

This video really should be titled "Sicilian Alapin - GM Ronen Har-Zvi (EMPIRE CHESS)". Seriously, there is nothing here on the Smith-Morra gambit except that it can transpose to the Alapin. If you want to sell the DVD then why not show a few of the lines with the beautiful sacrifices on d5, e6 or f7 that are so prevalent in the Smith-Morra?!

Under-1800s can definitely appreciate positional benefits. Even 1500 players know not to give up their fianchettoed Bishop or their x-coloured squares would be weak. I get that it's a playable position but that's not the point. 3...e5 is a boring alternative to moves such as 3...Nf6 or 3...g6!? and no Sicilian player wants a boring game.

@herrschnupke40447 жыл бұрын
You don't get the point man. Chess is a psychological battle. From this point of view white has no surprise weapon with this gambit, if black can transpose into known terrytory. Ronen analyses here if this is the case. By the way, the same approach works with the Blackmar Diemer Gambit. After 1.d4 d5 2.e4 dxe4 3.Nc3 black can play 4... c6. He transposed into known terrytory of Caro Kann defence and psychologically speaking spoiled all the fun for white. This is a very smart way to handle gambits!

3...e5 is an OK option but it's nothing special and it's not very ambitious, not the kind of thing that a Sicilian player wants.
@JimJWalker11 жыл бұрын
That may be true, but for under 1800 players that is a perfectly playable position that gets a booked up Morra player out of his comfort zone.
