Still fantastic. I'm rebuilding my Sankor 16D / Helios pipeline right now. I decided to open the 16D up and apply some telescope flocking material to the inside to avoid the excessive internal reflections. I'll be testing it on the L-mount BM Pyxis which should be fun. It took a little while to find a native M39 to L-mount adapter for the Helios. Most people try to use a cheap screw adapter to M42, but that interferes with your ability to get infinity focus.

These vintage anamorphic lenses give a sharp but dreamy background look that brings to mind the French Impressionist paintings. The modern anamorphic lenses (SLR magic/Surui) don't have that sharp but dreamy background look. Hence I bought both the Surui 50mm 1.33x as well as the ISCO Ultra Star Red with the Rapid FVD-16!

Question: You mention the "taking lens" being a Nikkor-H. I thought the Sankor did the photography. From what I understand a Twin-lens reflex camera uses 2 lenses (one for the viewfinder, and the taking lens for the picture). Can you clarify how this works on the GH5? Thanks.
@AutismFamilyChannel7 жыл бұрын
Never mind, I found a setup rig for the GH5 and it basically used an adapter so it changes the definition a bit because technically both lenses are taking the image, but the Nikkor-H is the one mounted to the body (lens mount). Hope I got that right.

Thanks for your compliment. This was shot some time ago already. I do own the S1H now for the past 2 years but haven’t been uploading any personal stuff for quite some time. This was shot with a sankor 16F, no variable diopter, so I just stayed within focus range. I used a speedbooster so the sensor was equivalent to a 4:3 with 18mm height (13mm sensor divided by metabones 0.71x speedbooster). You can get a similar look on the s5 in c4k with a 2x lens and a 50mm taking lens. I’m not a fan of the great joy to be honest but I have been deep in anamorphic for some time so I can’t live with the look it delivers. For ease of use and readyness it’s a great start to get your toes into anamorphic shooting without the headache of DIY rigs. That said I still prefer the look of certain scopes combined with certain taking lenses. I’ll upload something soon shot with the S1H and a new setup I have been trying. If you want to dive deep into anamorphic head over to our facebook > anamorphic shooters. All the best!

+Symon Says TV Hi Symon thank you. I'm aware of the rule of thirds and certain shots not being in perfect framed harmony. I'm a graphic designer by origin. I was filming almost blind and wide open, no monitor and the gh5 flying on a gimbal, most shots are estimations. For grading and testing purposes I kept some shots in the edit to examine certain characteristics of the lens for own purposes.
@SymonSaysTV7 жыл бұрын
Just re-watched it on my computer this time, man those images are nice. It's a dreamlike video. Often images with anamorphic adaptors are soft even on subject, but you seemed to have nailed it perfectly most of the time. I don't know if you were double focussing or working with a rangefinder but it's just perfect. Well you said you were working with a gimbal, so I don't know how you managed to keep focus but anyway. This anamorphic lens is a winning combination for you. The softness in the bokeh is superb! I'm assuming you were shooting in 4x3 with a 2x adapter? Also is this in Switzerland?

@ichidomo7 жыл бұрын
+Dyvanho The image ratio will be different since for the correct desqueeze ratio with 2x scopes it's best to shoot in 4:3 mode instead of 16:9. Sony a6300 doesn't have a 4K 4:3 anamorphic mode as far as I know. For a correct cinemascope ratio you'll have to crop the sides in 16:9.

Hi Steve Fu. Yes for this shot I used a gh5 > nikon metabones speedbooster> nikkor-h nippon kogaku> sankor 16F > slrmagic variable diopter. I adjusted the set at about 2m distance. I have had another sankor 16F but it had a slightly different coating blue towards magenta. The one used here had more deep blue coatings. Eiki 16F for example has a smaller rear and vignettes more easy. The sankor 16F has a fairly big rear element yet is more compact than let’s say a 16C model.

Hi :) I have a similar setup at the moment (GH5+Canon FD 50mm 1.4+Sankor 16F) and i keep wondering if you cropped the video since there is almost no black vignette apparent and your nikon is around 35mm with the speedbooster and to me that seems far too wide to not have a visible black vignette with the sankor. Would be awesome if you could bring some light into this darkness :D thanks a lot!
@ichidomo5 жыл бұрын
Hi, I didn’t crop any parts that are shot in 50fps 4:3. This is all pure 2.66:1 without any crop, not even at 2.39:1. The only crop are the 100fps shots at the end in since it had to be shot in VFR mode in 16:9. I also have a couple 50mm f1.4 lenses, those do tend to vignette a lot more than f1.8/f2 lenses, pancakes or smaller front elements pair better with most scopes. So in short, it depends on your taking lens, and your clamp options.
@metascopefilm5 жыл бұрын
Whohooo you aswered :D Just to let you know, I am following you for about two years now and I am a really big fan of you work, especially this video. Cheers!
