Another small thing to note: Ginjo - ever since meeting him, has called Ichigo, well, Ichigo (as if they were friends) - the moment he gets cut a second time he IMMEDIATELY starts calling him by his family name, Kurosaki, as if they were never friends in the first place. So yeah, Ginjo genuinely 100% believed that he was a good friend and ally to Ichigo up until that moment.

I truly can't believe people claimed that Ichigo isn't complex or interesting character to look out for. Like, he has trauma with his mother diyed because of his actions, because he was weak and couldn't save her, so he always tries to became stronger if people need him. That message goes through the whole anime, he is a protector, he saved rukia, he saved orichime, he saved everyone, he always does. And in that arc, yes, while first half of a story maybe really slow paced fundament building, that plot turns in other half are top tier in all bleach. The way that he got outplayed when all he wanted to do is protect the people around him, when (SPOILER FOR NEXT EPISODE) he literally started crying because he totally failed to protect everyone, his life is broken by some random he believed out of despire. And then people be like "Yea wheres my bankais kenpachi dats booooring", like seriously? I understand that everyone has their taste but idunno. I feel like people just didn't understand Ichigos motives throughout whole anime. Still best arc in bleach imo storywise

While ichigo is a well written character and has his own narrative with his savior complex and wanting to protect everyone that still doesn’t make him a more enjoyable or interesting character than ppl like kenpachi, byakuya ect, and I’d even argue that while he is well written he isn’t “more” well written than a simple character like kenpachi, ichigo definitely gets a lot of down play from ppl that’s not deserves and his arc of going from not wanting to deal with responsibility to wanting it in this arc is great to see but it still doesn’t make him a better character than others, of course it opinionated on who someone likes more but I don’t even think when Lee said ichigo was “simple” or whatever he said he was saying ichigo isn’t well written, it’s just that bleach has many more interesting and enjoyable characters

@@addamantuk6831 even though the begininng was slow people need to understand that that's Ichigo's & every other human's normal lives... they live in a normal world & Ichigo without his powers is just a normal cool kid getting by... but with new memories that probably would've haunted him for the rest of his life. I know people will say why would Ichigo go to randoms instead of his own people & that's because he put up a front that he was cool being powerless & they know Ichigo & his PRIDE (alot of other character's share this aspect as well) will accept the choices he made & deal with it as he can. All of those reason's are why Isshin said he will rob his son of his future because Ichigo is really only himself when he has the POWER to protect. Introducing new characters is always slow especially when basically starting from scratch but this arc showed that there are other humans that aren't quincy with powers as well & also Ginjo as the first substitute Soul Reaper that was exiled & forbidden from Soul Society was such a crazy reveal.. I'll never understand why people who are fans of Bleach wouldn't love lore like this.

He definitely has more depth than One piece characters but I wouldn't say he is complex or well written. His character changes suddenly based on what the plot needs. Sometimes he is angry and impulsive (Aizen fight), sometimes he is calm and composed (Also Aizen fight but different part), and so on. When a character improves and develop, you can't revert it back to its undeveloped state. Look at Ichigo in the second season and how he behaves almost the same as Ichigo here (from previous season). Him crying for not being able to protect someone isn't enough to make him complex. The fact he still has the same mentality throughout the whole show (wanting to protect) is indicative of him being One dimensional and never grow up or develop which I don't believe is the case by the way, but I'm merely referring to the point you made in your comment. All of this means that the author decides to change the MC actions and personality according to what the plot requires rather than giving it an actual development. Once that plot point ends, the author reverts that MC back to its original form which doesn't make any sense and it is the opposite of a good writing. Of course there is more to it like how he suddenly gets stronger and suddenly weaker and how his personality changes based on that without any build up... However, this is only off the top of my head. I'll have to rewatch the show again to remember all parts, but that would be tedious. 🙄

@@Accomplish305 okay, maybe complex isn't the word compare to someone who doesn't appear on my mind still, but ok, well written still stands tho for good reason for his actions. Also I can argue about character inconsistency. Like when you say that he's angry in aizen pt1, then calm in aizen pt2. At pt1 hes saw that Aizen tricked and defeated everyone he knew were stronger than him, so he was afraid whole battle, especially when he was told that his whole life and progression were planned before his birth. Then pt2 "after few hours he was totally calm". In reality he trained with Zangetsu for 3 months straight or so without any rest (thx Aizen for destroying that train thing). At this point he realized that he can defeat Aizen but he'll lose all his powers so of course he was exhausted imo because of all that stuff and he wasn't scared. Then, like urahara told, time itself rejects the time he spend in that between worlds place or smth like that, thats why his hair wasn't so long again and I think that's why his character returned to original self. Then again, about he mentally straight throughout the whole show, it isn't like that. He learned many things to became strong to protect everyone, that was well connected to his end goal

When I first watched through the Fullbring arc back in ~2015 I was 17 and just into Bleach for the action. But I watched through Bleach for a second time about 2 years ago and found that I really like the Fullbring arc now. I hated it back in 2015 because I was a teenager who just wanted to watch cool guys beat the shit out of each other, didn't really care for character development and stuff back then because I had a very shallow opinion of anime at that time. 7, soon to be 8, years have passed since then at my opinion of anime and my ability to enjoy media that isn't just PUNCH KICK SLASH has matured. So I can understand why some people are like "since you're watching the Fullbring arc I'll see y'all in TYBW" because they watched through that arc back when they were teenagers or when they thought of anime as only good when people are hitting each other. They haven't gone through and watched the show again for whatever reason, it's their own choice and their own reasons etcetera, so they still have a tainted view of that arc because of their past selves. It's true that some of them, maybe even a lot of them, might still not enjoy the arc and that's their prerogative; but they don't know how they'd feel about it until they watch it with an open mind on it once more. Edit: I like the discussion between the episodes where you guys point out things and come to understand that "Okay, I can see why some people don't like it". It's so sad that a lot of people hated this arc. Yes it started slowly, and the pacing was a bit off, but it wasn't the arc's fault at all. The story itself was FIRE as you're seeing. The problem was everyone's expectations. You have to understand that when this was actually airing, we came off of a bunch of filler _SEASONS_ like multiple seasons of actual filler, and even had a lot of filler between episodes of the Aizen fight for a bit (I'm sure you noticed). So a lot of people were getting sick of Bleach's pacing. Plus, even without the filler, the Heuco Mundo arc was a bit drawn out. The manga definitely had a better pacing but it was still fairly long for what it was supposed to be. So then when we get to this arc being released and the major departure of themes and style (which imo were amazing to see) you start to see why people got upset. They basically thought this was another filler, when it actually explains Orhime and Chad, and also sets up THEMATICALLY the next arc. Like, everything is much more serious from this point on and this arc is what helped to transition to that. It's hard for people to realize that when you come off as much filler as Bleach had.

At the very least, I think the writing of this arc more or less forces some of the other characters to develop more. Like, in the last arc, Chad and Orihime were having problems feeling like they could help their treasured friend because they were just getting eclipsed by almost all of their enemies, and Ichigo himself. No matter what how hard they tried, they could not accomplish the goal that they wanted in the last arc. Now that most of the super strong guys are not around and Ichigo is in the most vulnerable position out of their group, Chad and Orihime have gained an opportunity to help protect their friend from any potential danger that may have appeared. That gives their characters more purpose and agency than just being helpless bystanders. Frankly, I think that's something this arc did right, because by this point, Kubo had already introduced too many characters to work with, and I think that isolated stories are fine.

I feel so sorry for Ichigo during this arc. He’s led around and made to feel paranoid to the point he feels he can only trust himself. I’m more of a loner, myself, but even I would hate it if everyone I knew and loved turned on me for no reason. It isn’t my favorite arc, but I do love it. It’s rare when, even after I’ve seen it already, I still want a character to die. Even after all these years, the moment I saw Tsukishima, I wanted Ichigo to just kill him outright for what I knew he was doing.

This twist was better than the aizen one imo. Cause when it all gets explained you can see that it was happening as you were watching the arc. Like ishida really turned around to look behind him at the start and got cut from behind when tsukishima was in front. And ginjo was really convincing as a good guy. Cause everyone was sus of him at the start. But he got rid of those doubts with that whole scene where he pretended to be a villain so all the viewers were supposed to think thats all that was up. And then again when he had all his friends turn against him and ginjo sacrificed himself. You gotta be a really untrusting person to suspect him at this point.

It was always apart of the plan. Ginjo knew if he saw Ichigo as a friend and someone he could depend on he would state his life on it. He knew he would want to project Ichigo to the point he would take the hit for Ichigo if he saw Tsukushima as a true enemy. Somehow even after the second strike, there were "things" he did that showed he wasn't a full on bad guy, he just really really liked to lay it on thick.

Reason why alot of people hate this arc was because of the manga readers. You get to binged this. Even as an anime watchers, one episode has 2 to 3 chapters in it. But as a Manga readers, we were exposed to a year worth of Ichigo with no powers before we get to see he use fullbring. That's roughly 50 weaks of waiting and reading dialogue. But Kubo make a comeback with TYBW arc next.

A huge help for this story line is being able to binge the entire season, where as it got a lot of crap when it first came out because it had massive production problems and took forever to air scenes in America. Add the fact that anime was kinda of hitting a slow point where not a lot of different shows where there, Naruto was ending, one piece hit a really bad filter arch and Bleach was pretty much carrying the popular anime market on its back, while trying a new story telling style.

I didn't like this arc at first because, if you watched the show as it was airing (filler included) this is the 3rd time Ichigo is getting his powers back. Pre- Soul Society arc, Reigai arc (filler just before Fullbring) and now this. On top of that, the series "ended" after this. I was anime only, so as far as I was concerned, they gave Ichigo his powers back just to end the show on a high note instead of it ending with his goodbye to Rukia. That's what I was thinking. It felt like a waste of time. Now that TYBW is out, I really like this arc especially since I now know Reigai was filler and it leads into the real final arc of the series. Yes, this arc is slower, the fullbringers are underdeveloped as characters, and there are no earth shattering battles with fancy lights. HOWEVER, the psychological aspect is a breath of fresh air on top of giving Ichigo some actual character development that isn't just him getting stronger. You guys were right, Ichigo thus far has been pretty plain compared to the other characters with their philosophies and reasons for being. Ichigo just wants to protect his friends and while that's super simple, it also sets him apart from other shounen protags who want to be the best/strongest pirate king, hokage, super hero etc. And in the next couple episodes, you've seen that Ichigo being a simple character was deliberate. He hasn't changed, but he has changed everyone else, and those impacts are what end up saving him.

Being completely honest, Ichigo is maybe not even in my top 30 favorite Bleach characters, I am serious, I do like and enjoy him, but there is so much characters who are more likable and enjoyable than he is for me, I like the vast marjority of captains and ex captains more than him, there are 5 espadas who I enjoy more, a good amount of the liutenants are also better than him but I still like Ichigo, its just that the cast is way more rich than him imo
