Greetings from a slovenly private in the 44th. Found your channel recently and seems surreal to have been in the same camp as you. I'll have to spread the work about Huzzay though. That'll ruffle some of the older feathers. I'm also intrigued by the differences between AWI and Nap drill that your videos put out and it makes me want to try AWI.

"British forces headed by the Coldstream Guards and 2/95th Rifles." You're forgetting another unit who led the brigade!
@BrandonF7 жыл бұрын
Do you happen to know all of the units in this video, so I can label them in proper order?
@Spetsnaz0o17 жыл бұрын
Of course mate. 1st brigade was the coldstreams and 2/95th along with the 5/60th Rifles (My own unit) 2nd Brigade consists of the 44th east essex and the 1/95th And the 3rd Brigade is the 3/95th and the 42nd. There are one or two other units mixed in in ones and twos in larger units as well but they're hard to identify. PS I've known of your channel for a while, watched your videos and had no idea you were with the Coldstreams at ickworth in the camp behind mine! Great vids mate.

Well thank you! There is going to be a delay while I am out of the country for a short time, but I will get back to actually uploading content when I return next month. I plan on attending quite a few events with this group as well, if we happen to attend the same event again!
@Jonathanimator7 жыл бұрын
Another rifleman of the 5/60th here, the first brigade was also joined by a member of the 2nd Queen's Own who fell in with the Coldstreams. The 2nd is a great group of researchers but it's a huge shame their numbers are so small and are therefore often overlooked. The next (and largest event of the season) is Hole Park on the weekend of May 26th. Hope you can make it. And if it's of interest to you, the 5th Bttn. 60th Rgt. is hosting a closed-to-the-public Light Infantry campaign event in September. Living authentically in a forest on the Welsh border and sending out advance guards against opponent camps. p.s. Thanks for that bowl of stew on the Saturday night, it was lovely.
@BrandonF7 жыл бұрын
+Den Gamle Sjömannen The men from the 2nd were great company, no pun intended. I am afraid I won't be able to make it to Hole Park, as the CSG will be at the Moira Canal Festival that same weekend. The private event also sounds brilliant, but I don't think my group will be attending, and as of yet I still rent most of my uniform from them! I have only ever been to one "private" event for WW2, and it was absolutely brilliant, although I do generally enjoy speaking to spectators more than anything else at an event. As for the stew, thank the women of the CSG1815- I was merely the carrier in that operation!

Dammit I love these uniforms and the style of warfare at this time!
@BrandonF7 жыл бұрын
+Christoffer Blaus I have found I much prefer these uniforms to my AWI kit. They are much tighter and emphasise height over width, and feel much more like a modern army in that way.

Now that my classes are over I can dedicate myself a bit more to KZbin, so I plan to put a lot more work in to the Household Division videos, I am going to take a trip back to the USA soon and so will have access to my other uniforms for some Fact Over Farb, and have a long list of topics for discussion videos! Now I just need to work up the will to get in front of the camera!

1:56 I notice that the regiment following behind the 95th I notice the front rank are wearing their Gaiters over the top of their trousers whilst the 2nd rank they look like they're not wearing them (probably under the trousers), and same with the Coldstreams at the front of the Parade. What's the correct way of wearing 8 button Gaiters as a solider in Wellington's Army?
@dombutcher26546 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, member of the 44th (East Essex) here (the ones with gaiters on top of the white trousers). I didn't actually manage to get to this event (for the first time in quite a few years!) but I think the basic gist of an answer, not pretending to know it all, is that with the pre-1812 peninsular regulations for the line companies, they were to be equipped with white breeches, long black gaiters and white overall trousers. It's unclear whether they were allowed to not wear the overalls when on campaign, whether they'd be saved for parade circumstances and not be worn whilst on active duty or whether at the Colonel's choice (as it always is, it seems) whether they wore the overalls on campaign or took them off and just wore the breeches and gaiters was changeable - between battalion and between the season this probably changed as well. Most reenactors nowadays buy full length white trousers and long black gaiters so that with the gaiters on top it appears to be like breeches, but can also appear to be the overall dress - the 44th tends for most appearances to lean towards an active campaign look, so it was decided a while back that with all the research presented, the uniform regulation for the society would be gaiters on top. Hope this helps mate :)

Hi Brandon ! It's good to see a reenactor tacling military misrepresentations you're great ! So How do you feel the changes from AWI to Napoleonic wars reenactement ? In matters of regulation and drills ? is it a huge difference between them ? I do know for the french one it's slighly different, a part of some general manoeuvre on the brigade level. I dont know how you redcoats manouver ;)
@BrandonF7 жыл бұрын
+Ezo Syrte Thank you! There are a lot of differences between the two, which I was thinking of talking about in a video once I return from a trip. As far as drill and army regulations go, ignoring modern reenactor safety regulations, I think the overall feel of Napoleonic reenacting in the UK is much more "professional military" than AWI in the US. In the former we were in very close order, movements are slow and much more methodical, and you feel like you're part of a much more solid mass when in ranks. In the latter, formations are much looser and faster moving, you feel a lot more independent, even in a line regiment. It speaks well to the genuine differences in warfare on both continents, owing to the terrain and environment, sizes of armies and their complements, and even the kind of war being fought at the time, be it the quashing of revolt or the engaging of a sovereign power.

The 42nd hackles are NOT accurate. They never wore a red and white ta hackle, it's always been red. They were rewarded it in 1795.
@BrandonF7 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I'm not sure why they wouldn't have that be the case, then.
@keithorbell89464 жыл бұрын
I thought the light company were supposed to have green over red and grenadier company white over red. I did not notice that in the video, so not sure if they were representing a flank company. EDIT just rewatched, they are representing a flank (grenadier) company with “bird’s nests” on their shoulders, so that could be why. Also, red over white rather than white over red, which is standard battalion company hackles for regiments without special distinctions.

They'd be flying the Regimental flag, not the Union flag...
@BrandonF7 жыл бұрын
Normally every regiment would have two flags, the national and the regimental. There are so many different regiments on display here, though, it wouldn't make too much sense to have them all represented by the colours of the Coldstream Guards, for example.
@keithorbell89464 жыл бұрын
Two Colours per Battalion, the Regimental Colour the field usually in the Facing colour of the regiment (differences in regulations for regiments with white, red or black, not always adhered to) with the Regimental number and any badges in the centre, and the Union Flag in the upper left canton. The King’s Colour was the Union Flag with the Regimental Number in the Centre.
