For your front end issues, try adding a FM-TRAP filter inline with the external antenna and see if that helps your overload issues. You could also do this with a whip as most FM traps are SMA these days. The RTL-SDR FM trap has pretty good performance overall. FWIW, with my home setup I have to use a NOAA Wx notch filter, FM notch and sometimes band-specific filters so that my TRX-1 and SDRs don't go skitzo on me...

No TRX-1 is fine. R30 is junk.

Thank you for the observations. I am interested in a test. Could you please find a signal that overloads, then tune off frequency and set the RF gain so the AGC does not trigger on the band noise. Then tune back on frequency and see if it still overloads. And if you wouldn't mind, do the same on MF and say on 5 kHz band except add attenuation then tune off frequency and set the RF gain so the AGC does not trigger on the band noise then tune back on frequency and see if it still overloads. And if you're into it, turn off the AGC and ride the RF gain and see how it performs. This is important information regarding purchasing a R30 for myself. Thanks, Dan

Can you please answer the following 4 Questions please. 1. Does this receive Digital Radio Mondiale for listening to Radio Stations. 2. if you are on a bus or a Taxi and the Drivers communications radio transmits, can the R30 show you what frequency it is on, can it find that frequency. 3. Are the buttons rubber or hard plastic. 4. How long to charge the battery.

2:05 not 30 mhz. but 100 khz. to 3.3 ghz.

Have you tried using the ATT and/or RF Gain control to offset the overload? Just wondering if there was still hope for this radio in that regard.

It doesn’t even have DMR thanks to ICOM’s ridiculous crusade. It was hopeless from the beginning.

Hi, have you been able to use the data cable to program your radio. I have two lots of software RTS Systems and Butel and unable to figure out how to import and export data to the radio. Are you able to advise me please.

So bottom line would you recommend the 30 over the 20 for casual SW listening and air band listening?

This is by far my favourite all-round portable radio. Good that you mention it, and important for every owner of this radio: there is a great difference between the A an B receiver. On VHF and UHF my B receiver is way more sensitive than the A receiver. So keep that in mind...

Hello! Is it possible this receiver deaf up to 430 in A band?
@YouBieb4 жыл бұрын
@@winterblood78 The B receiver works like any scanner for VHF an UHF wich is great. For shortwave you’ll have to use the A receiver, this is fine for monitoring strong signals. Still I like it as an all band receiver with excelent programming options...

I have 4 very strong VHF signals in a radius of 2 km and do not experience any overload of the front end. The difference to your location is that I live in a suburb at 11 km of Antwerp. So, not living directly in the city will not cause problems on the R30, but as you say it should not overload at all. PS, the R20 had problems with a nearby Pager signal and the R30 does not notice it. Radio's, a mistery… 73' Ron

The difference is that your overindulgence blinds you to this fad radio since it makes you feel special about yourself. Where as Gilles is more objective.

Nice, just a suggestion you should review the lower end Uniden Bearcat SR30C it's fairly new and not much is known about it. Honestly I think youd be able to do a thorough review of the lil guy. It's about 80 dollars on Amazon. It's great for beginners and i just picked one up. Please do this!

I just bought the Icom IC-R30, I am currently storing in frequencies to Channels and putting names to each frequency, for Airband, bus Channels, shop security, do you think it is best to have DUP off and VSC on but with Broadcast FM Radio Stations, I will have DUP off and VSC off, do you think that those settings are good.

Good thorough review, as always. I understand why a VHF/UHF transceiver would have 2 channels, but not a receiver. The "circuit space" would have been better used to improve the reception; prevent the front-end overloading, etc.
