I really like this design of boat and if I ever had the sort of money to buy a Superyacht I think I might go for an Icon made one. On top of the design of the yacht, the interior decor in the yacht is basically modern and light, which is much better. American designs seem to go for dark wood everywhere, which I hate. Anyway, well done for the video. Enjoyed it. BTW, we need some subtitles for the Dutch bits.

May I suggest that the yacht owners need to evolve the idea of conducting an year round yacht fare around the world where there are clusters of these mega luxury vessels offering a FULL DAY AT SEA ON A SUPER YACHT for $... so as to utilize the idle time of these expensive possessions, the revenue of which could be spent on the maintenance of these white elephants...

Every mega Yacht is a unique project and therefore it is built according to specific details and wishes from the owner. Two years is very normal, the pre building time (planning and drafting of all the plans ) only can take 2 years. +Law19157 Tankers are not too involved in building, and shipbuilders like Hyundai have the capacity and man power to put those things together. With companies like Icon or their contemporaries, they have a smaller workforce and most of the larger hull assemblies for the "super" class yachts are rarely the same, hence in most cases, they even build the tools for the build.

No, the size and workforce don't matter. Lurssen is a HUGE company employing 4,000 workers (Daewoo employs 13,000) but it still takes them 2-3 years to make a large yacht. Just realize this. It takes longer to put 100 sq. meters of teak floor than to weld a steel deck on an oil tanker. Also, oil tanker accomodations use bog standard beds, toilets, sinks and mirrors. On a large yacht everything is custom made and requires personalized installation. If you go to a serial yacht manufacturers like Princess, Azimut, Benetti, Sunseeker, with some luck you can have a boat in a couple of weeks. Or even buy it new made from a dealer right away. But it'll be as personal as your TV set.

Maloy7800 Well said, my thoughts were quite the same albeit from sheer manpower levels. I think I wrote that comment during the time frame where I had had a conversation with an idiot who believed that the yachting industry doesn't create jobs on its own. Ugh I hate ready made, a lot of people don't realize how much liberty they have with appointing an M/Y (not to mention how much of a better selection a buyer with their head screwed on right can make). Never should one ever buy anything that creates an expense profile like that as a ready made product, it's a bad business decision like that fake teak on the smaller Sunseekers (at that point, get a Hatteras, Pershing or Magellano 53 instead, much better appointed). Addendum; Ready made motor yachts are more for the drunk Uncle who may have the propensity to sleep with anything female with two legs.

Okay, I have a few questions: 1. Why is "modular" construction called innovative? It's been used in shipbuilding for 30 years now, if now more. 2. How is 30 months per yacht faster than what they call traditional methods? The longest yacht in the world Azzam was built in 3 years. This one is MUCH smaller but it takes only 6 months less. What's the point? 3. What they call "beach club" is called transom and it's far from "unique feature"; every large yacht has one these days. What the heck? Why try to fool potential customers? You think we're stupid?

1. It's innovative, because is not very popular in private superyacht industry, but rather in the industrial and cruising ships. 2. The time of construction can vary depends on how much you're willing to pay. That one costs around $50-60 Million, I guess. The Azzam is $1.56B and it had been constructed by at least 300 people on site. 3. Unique feature doesn't certainly mean it's "the only one out there". It means something very special and exotic, unique to vessels of this or bigger size. The most common beach club area is an extended lower deck, rather than an automated door. Note that, in the last 5 years, Yacht industry has developed faster than smartphones and continue growing. What is called innovative in this video, might already be common in these days ;)

A transom is the sternpiece of the hull. A beach club is a hinged transom that turns into a swim platform, and has space behind the transom for chairs and shit.

LOL "as green as possible". There is no such thing as a green mega yacht. Think about it. For all you folks complaining. This documentary was filmed in the Netherlands. English is NOT the national language there. Are American films all translated for non-English speaking people. No.
