My Dad had picked up a 1970 F250 Longbed Highboy about 25 years ago, and we used it as our field service truck for several years. It's got the old 390 iron head that never worked exactly right. It has the 4 speed manual and part time 4X4 with lockouts. It's retired now, and sitting in our polebarn along with my 66 GMC I1000 I'm hoping to restore someday. We also had an F100 1970 that Dad had bought in the mid 1970's but he sold that one a few years ago. Exact same body style but it was a 2X4 instead of 4X4. That one only saw winter use on nice days. It had the 360 from the factory which was the same block as the 390. My uncle also had an F250 as his service truck. He had replaced the engine at one point because it was getting a little tired, so Dad put that engine in his F100 because his 360 had gone out. We ran it that way until he sold it. Even a tired 390 was better than the 360.
