You can't properly build a vehicle like these from the ground up without spending a lot of money. Make a list of every part on a vehicle. Then look up the price of each part. It's not at all cheap. If you have the money to spend. And you don't have the skills to build it yourself. Then this is a good way to go. If you build it yourself, it would probably cost more. Because companies like this get better deals for buying in bulk.

In January 1972 we were in the depths of Michigan’s winter. I was driving down the street one day with deep snow on both sides and I had just about had enough of all this GD snow & ice & cold. We all came to a stoplight in from of a Ford dealership. I looked onto their lot & there sat a brand new 1972 F100 4X4. I pulled out of line & drove into the lot & gave the truck the once over. It was F100, 4X4, regular cab, long styleside bed, world famous 300 cid I-6 engine with 4 speed granny box trans. I was thinking this would be just the truck to get me about Detroits slippery snow & ice covered streets & I could put a blade on front & make some side money scraping parking lots of snow. Window sticker? $3600.00 !

What I love most is they kept the rifle rack in the back window of the F-250. I think every regular cab pickup truck from this era should have a rifle rack in the back window. Talk about in hog heaven.🐷😇 Loved everything about it and when came the time for me to buy my first truck...'79 Ford F-250 4x4 dark blue with metallic paint. It's got 160,000 miles on it and been a good work truck. I went on to buy an '82 F-250 s/cab 4x4 for my non work truck. In 1986 bought a new full size Bronco and F-350 4x4 crew cab. I own only American and only Ford! My friends say if I got an artery cut I wouldn't make it cause I would bleed Ford blue and no hospital carries that. So I tell them that's why the ambulance would have to take me to a Ford dealer instead of ER. Lol 😂

Thanks Jay. The first vehicle that I bought brand new was a 1971 Ford F-100. I drove it 50,000 mile in the first six months, mostly on the Interstate at 75 MPH and 12 MPG. It had a 360 V8 which was pretty common. I think it was basically a short stroke version of the 390. I traded it in 3 years with well over 100,000 miles. Super reliable. The handling was decent after I put Michelin radials on it.
@rhekman Жыл бұрын
My dad had a '73 F100 with the 360, and you are correct, it was a destroked 390. He replaced the connecting rods and crankshaft to turn it into a 390. Besides the increased displacement, the swapped internals also increased the compression ratio. With a Holley carburetor and headers, that truck was a real stump-puller.
@walter2990 Жыл бұрын
My 73' F-100 with the 360ci always got 14mpg, empty or pulling my very old 21' boat, which was HEAVY! It burned thru points every 300+ miles. You could probably do it yourself for under 100k. Buy a second hand pick and engine. Pay a mechanic to engine swap it for you lmao the set up is not that complex. The price tag is ridiculous
@J.R.in_WV Жыл бұрын
@@royalzak2670no doubt. I figured around $10k for a nice, rust free bump side F-250, either 2 or 4wd wouldn’t matter since you’re trashing the original driveline anyhow, then start with A well built ~350hp 12V Cummins, brand new NV4500 trans, Atlas 205 T-case and new Dyna-trac Dana 60 front and rear axles would run about $30,000, figure $10,000 for a really nice paint job on the body and frame, $25,000 for ancillary components like the interior power accessories, seats,stereo, clutch, brakes, wheels, tires, exhaust etc and $25,000 for labor and you’d have $100,000 in a truck that has the same horsepower, twice the torque and gets twice the fuel mileage of the 5.0 coyote F-250 shown here. Really just a better all around truck. If a man had the capital to build out 2 or 3 with the specs laid out above, maybe 1 with an automatic like an Allison 1000 with a $7,500 premium over the stick to appeal to different buyers, and you could put these guys out of business selling them at $160-180k and still be turning a really good profit margin.

It pulled a 1 ton stake body filled with wood through a field sunk up to it's axils in mud ,both the truck and the Bronco. . It didn't pull it fast but it pulled it. Beautiful trucks done right. I want one of the F250s. Also, your guest Coby could do voice-over/ announcer/narrator work if the truck business slows down.

I can't tell you just how HAPPY I am to see "Jay Leno's Garage" upload just now!!! I was sooooooo disappointed when I heard that the show was canceled. I HOPE Jay continues to make videos and share his enthusiasm with the millions of viewers who his passion for cars and motorcycles. I'm especially interested in the motorcycle videos. PLEASE keep 'em coming!! THANK YOU, JAY! I'm so happy to see you here!

Don't mix up the TV show and the KZbin... This has been going on for FAR longer and will continue for FAR longer (as long as JL survives :) ).

I don't doubt for a second that these are a top grade resto mod build, but there is absolutely no way I am ever paying that much money for a vehicle just on principle.

There is this.........and then there's my 1973 F100 6 cylinder that was just a good ol truck. I bought it for $600 in 1981 and kept it for 15 years and the next owner had it for another 10, and I'm sure it is still rollin around. Good ol truck.

The F250 should have a supercharged 7.3 Godzilla with a 10 speed auto, 2 speed transfercase, Dana 60 and Sterling or 14 bolt rear. I understand not putting anything hotter than a 5.0 Coyote in a Bronco but for almost $300k it should have more than a 5.0, 4 speed auto, Dana 44 and 9".

Totally agree for $268,000 it should

So true Jay about the huge A pillar on newer vehicles. You’re driving along when all of a sudden the guy in the left lane next to you just whips right in front of you. Well his turn signal had been on for a while but your A pillar blocked you from seeing it.

Jay, I just googled 1970 Ford 250’s for sale and I saw some for 17,000 that were surprisingly in good shape, you should pick one up and have your shop guys restore it!

Those high dollar restomods are nice, out of reach for the vast majority of us though. Still like looking as you can get ideas and of course inspiration.
