40 years. If they dropped 50,000 balloons every year... that’s two million balloons! Try to imagine two million balloons falling into a hotel atrium all at once, LOL! Try to imagine what two million balloons looks like period. Congratulations and thank you to the Hyatt Regency Hyatt for the good times.
As a professional balloon decorator of 20 plus years, I’ve watched this balloon drop in awe, ever since photos and videos were posted on the (then) brand new internet. Let me tell you, just watching balloons being dropped over and over allowed me to take balloon drops to the next level in my career. There is no other drop that has divulged more information than this one. So a huge thanks to the Hyatt Regency Houston for keeping this tradition alive and being a part of helping me evolve this effect into an actual interactive, visually stimulating, sensation.
Their drop hasn’t change really over the years. Always the two open net system, 9 inch balloons with some 36 inch balloon and airships. The biggest change in recent years is that they’ve been mixing it up with the color schemes. This is important! If you do a balloon drop annually, for the same event, you have got to change it up. I’ll admit that this drop fell off the map for me with the same old black, gold and red color scheme, year after year. Lesson; keep changing it up, it won’t go unnoticed.
I’m keeping this one on my Top 5 Balloon Drops list because it delivered this year (again), it’s huge and makes me wish I was there. This coming from a guy that has seen, done and attended a shit ton of balloon drops.
I’ll admit that I wish they’d ask me how to improve on their magnificent balloon drop... hint hint!
