Another fun fact was that the titular “Bill” from Kill Bill was also played by David Carradine - the actor who replaced Bruce Lee in the Kung Fu show he had originally pitched. Not sure if intentional, but maybe Tarantino’s poetic justice for Beatrix to be wearing an iconic Bruce Lee outfit, to take down a symbol of his negative Hollywood experience.

Another homage to Bruce Lee and a more subtle reference to the yellow tracksuit is NCT 127's music video for their song "Kick It". While none of the members actually wear the yellow tracksuit in the video, they almost exclusively use a yellow and black color pallette, and the members wear black modified tracksuits with white elements. They even have the motorcycle in the video too!

Just thought I'd point out that in Lego Ninjago, they dressed a major character in this suit both as an homage to Kill Bill and for characterization purposes. I'm specially talking about Harumi in Prime Empire. In one episode, she wears a light orange jump suit that is near identical to the one the Bride wears and it works on multiple levels. Firstly, Ninjago is an action martial arts show with a bunch of Asian influences, so having a character wear clothes inspired by Bruce Lee is extremely appropriate. Second, it fits Harumi's character. Harumi was well established as a femme fatale, characterized both by her beauty, her treachery, and a bloodthirsty, dangerous streak (she had killed multiple characters and specifically tried stabbing the man character with a knife by this point). That's a very similar vibe to the Bride's character. Harumi, like the Bride, is also entirely motivated by revenge based in a tragic past that gives the character an aura of sympathy even though in Ninjago she is clearly marked as a sadistic, twisted villain. Dressing her in the jumpsuit reflects this. And for good measure, Harumi also wields a sword almost exactly like the one the Bride wields. In fact, Harumi's other costumes in the show mimic the Bride's rapid shifts between traditionally masculine and feminine consumes. Harumi, prior to this jumpsuit, has worn dress, as casual hoody, and finally a spiky, dark cult outfit. Each one of these outfits represents how the creators wanted the main character (and by proxy) the audience to envision her. She the dresses when the creators what to portray her a beautiful and elite, she wears the casual hoody when the creators want to portray her as innocent and friendly, and she wears the cult outfit when being portrayed as sadistic, twisted, and violent. And then it culminates in the jumpsuit when encompasses the entire history of her character by alluding to the Bride's and even Bruce Lee's jumpsuit. You could know nothing about Ninjago and have zero history with Harumi's character, but if you're familiar with that famous yellow jump suit and it's history then you can figure out exactly the kind of character Harumi is just by her wearing it. That is just super solid characterization though costume.

A lesser known ode to the jumpsuit that I personally love is in the video game Persona 4. Character Chie Satonaka likes kung fu movies and it’s very sporty, energetic, and tomboyish. Her fighting weapon in the game is just sneakers (compared to the rest of the cast who use things like katana, guns, or even big shields) and she kicks her enemies. Her persona also is designed to reference Bruce Lee by being mostly yellow with black accents. And in the spin-off dancing game, Chie can even wear a yellow jumpsuit costume.

Sometimes I forget that in the gaming industry that people don’t know anything about Battle Royale despite that being a very popular genre of multiplayer FPS game play. I worked at Activision for a couple years and worked on a game with a Battle Royale game mode; and one day during break I was listening to the Battle Royale soundtrack and a coworker asked me what I was listening to (since I was playing it on KZbin and my screen was visible to anyone nearby so he saw the BR logo), and I tried explaining it to him and it all flew over his head. Over time I realized more and more of my coworkers, despite playing the games we worked on and other games with Battle Royale modes, had never once questioned why it was named that nor had ever heard of the infamous film. Still gets a laugh out of me when I think about it.

One jumpsuit appearance that I really like is in Persona 4. In a way, it has two appearances but they relate to the same character. Chie is a tomboy who practices kung fu (possibly self-taught, but I digress). She deals with insecurity regarding her masculinity and how she doesn’t fit the feminine ideal that her small town emphasizes. However, after confronting the personification of her brutal envy toward her more classically feminine friend, she receives her persona (a fighting mechanic in the game). Her persona, Tomoe, wears the yellow jumpsuit, visibly displaying this masculine hobby on a clearly feminine form. Chie also has the jumpsuit as a costume she can wear into battle. I think the jumpsuit is cool in this instance because it clearly plays into her character development.

If anyone is interested to learn more about Bruce Lee and his film career, I recommend checking Accented Cinema's videos on him :) He goes into depth about who Bruce Lee revolutionised martial arts in film.

An interesting potential homage is in multiple (maybe just one) iterations of teenage mutant ninja turtles made in the 'new millennium ' where april o neil wears a yellow sweat suit to fight. Which feels like a double homage. First to the jumpsuit she wore in the 80s cartoon n then to potentially battle royale or kill bill w a sleeker outfit thatd be easier to fight in

Yeah, I can't believe they went through a whole video about Yellow Jumpsuits, without _once_ mentioning April 'O Neil. Even though David Wise (not the Rare composer, the man who wrote over a hundred of the original nearly two hundred episode run of TMNT) admittedly based her cartoon outfit on Fujiko Mine (Lupin III), a thief who occasionally posed as a news reporter; her tracksuit in the movie *TMNT 2007* was explicitly based on the Bruce Lee version.

Its only really an explicit reference in an animated movie in yes a long running franchise but tmnt 2007 (much as i love it) wasn't as well known as other examples shown in the video.

THANK YOUUU I WAS LOOKING FOR THIS COMMENT!!! I’d also like to add they gave her a very similar outfit in season 5 of the 2012 version, after she completed her ninja training

It’s crazy how quinten Taranto always references Bruce Lee in his works when he always speaking negatively on Bruce and depicted him in a r@cist caricature in once upon a time in Hollywood
