WOW! I rode those Red Bird 7 train cars when I was a baby in 1994 & I knew someday that when I was man enough back in 9th grade after starting high school, I get to ride 7 train by myself for the 1st time after the Red Bird Subway Cars retired.

There usually have an instructor or supervisor riding with the train operator guiding the way for any trains operating in CBTC territory, since CBTC equipped lines does NOT have wayside signals anymore, and must operate thru there with caution as well. PATCO does that when they have work equipment or work trains in the area which does NOT have ATO, but the trackwork must be done to ensure safety for their passengers.

The system can allow a “non-reporting” train to pass by, creating a much larger buffer zone around it. It’s when you have multiple things start to go haywire.

So it happened in 2003, when the redbirds retired after about 5 decades in service on the 7 trains and had to be replaced by the R188's #7211-#7670 with #7899-#7944, which currently on the 7 train since 2003 while the other R188's #7816-#7821, #7827-#7832, #7838-#7843, #7849-#7854, #7860-#7865, #7871-#7876, #7882-#7887 and #7893-#7898 are on the 42nd Street Shuttle since either 2002 or 2003 and the other R188's #7811-#7815, #7822-#7826, #7833-#7837, #7844-#7848, #7855-#7859, #7866-#7870, #7877-#7881 and #7888-#7892 with the R188's #7671-#7810 are on the 4 train since either 2002 or 2003 replacing the retired redbirds and the R62s #1301-#1625, which currently went to the 3 train since then, which the 3 train currently goes from Harlem-148th Street to Crown Heights-Utica Avenue, days and. evenings. Late nights, no 3 trains from Times Square-42nd Street to Crown Heights-Utica Avenue. By the way, R62s' #1435, #1436, #1437, #1439 and #1440 were involved in the 4 train derailment back in 1991, that killed a drunk motorman at the 14th Street-Union Square subway station, back when i was 11 years old being a kid
