We did raised beds, too. I love how wonderfully you work together, such a great team! My husband isn't ready/convinced to go off grid yet, but I think he's warming up to it. We learned how to garden, and I learned how to make our own bread and how to can our food. I've enjoyed every minute of it! I'm learning so much from others who live off grid, and thankful that you all post/log your journey and share it!

At least you got to go out and explore for a bit. 😄 Nice job on the raised beds. We need to clear the garden area and get ours put in. I'm liking the logs for the beds. I have trees down on our trail property so I think I'll use some of those for our beds. Your dog really does well with the nails being trimmed.

@@SimpleLivingAlaska Do you have Craigslist up there? Might even be in free stuff one day. You know how kids can torture the new kid and play tricks on them? Cabin reaver I was shooting a video a couple of days and couldn’t stay serious. I was driving my wife nuts. The short amount of day light is the worst part of winter. For me at least. I like to be outside the majority of the time but it’s hard to do stuff in the dark. Ha yeah we have blue grouse or hooters. We were getting ready to leave and one walked out from under my deck. I went inside to get my 22 but it gave me the slip. I need a little 20 gauge to keep by the door.

I have been watching your videos all week and am enjoying your journey. Have you considered a rice and meaty broth for the dogs? A local musher told us about the combo and we often feed our dog rice and salmon with broth.

Hey guys. We’ve been watching your videos, started with recent, but now we started at the beginning. The hubby and I have wanted to switch out 4 year old Bassett/Boxer mix over to raw diet. We’ve done a lot of research, but still feel puzzled. Have you done a video on an example of what to feed? Maybe we just haven’t seen it yet. Thank for sharing your lives with us. Good luck in all you do!
@SimpleLivingAlaska5 жыл бұрын
katie warner I didn't have the confidence to make the switch until I visited a holistic vet in Oregon. We loosely follow the 80 muscle meat/10 bone/10 offal proportions over a long period of time, supplemented by kibble when we don't have the resources. They get to eat meat from a variety of animals but only appropriate sized bones for them. It is helpful to think of the perfect meal as a whole chicken for a medium to large size dog. I also have them on a worming schedule since raw meat can have worms. Feel free to shoot us an email if you have more questions: simplelivingalaska@gmail.com We briefly discuss this in our pig butchering video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpLRpKppqs1_pJo

How do you feel about Tennessee making camping on public land a felony charge this year? Do you think it will spread to other states. As someone who camps I'd be interested in your opinion. Do you think Tennessee making it a felony aligns with this countries motto of being the land of the free?

New comment on an old video, I've watched your most recent 20 or so videos and am catching myself up, do you still have plans for pigs and milk goats or have those been scrapped due to space/cost/resource concerns?
@SimpleLivingAlaska4 жыл бұрын
Sophomoric1 yes for the reasons you mentioned, we have tossed around small pigs but with all the hunting and fishing opportunities we don't find ourselves needing more food at the moment. We do love pigs and it was a dream to have milk goats but we are able to purchase fresh milk locally. We also want to take care of our chickens and bees first since we got started with them 😃

Where could I get a bowl like yours?. It must be very useful as I see it being used often in your videos! Also you have the same stove as mine new to me one it seems. Sooo am I just that messy? I always seem to find a drip or something and am worried about keeping the indents around the burners clean. Any tips?

We are hoping to raise Kune Kune pigs which are much smaller since we won't really be able to let them forage. I believe they do well here, probably not ideal to have them over winter with low temps and them putting on weight.
