Been watching your videos for a while now Trent and I have to say this is a cut above not only the average generic "realtor" video, but without doubt the best and most honest thing you've ever put out here. It takes a special level of personal bravery to share your own life story and lessons learned with the world in such a nakedly honest fashion and I commend you for that. Even at the potential cost to your own pocket. Some great advice in here not just on moving to Idaho or not, but an overall approach to facing any of life's major decisions. Way too many people who think that just moving somewhere different is going to solve everything for them but as you say, if your head and heart aren't in the right place it doesn't matter where you are, you'll just bring your problems with you and have to face them in a new environment. Great stuff.

@@LivingLifeNorthIdahoSounds to me like your entire family and friends refused to listen to sense. It's also your obligation to honor your father and to let him lead and teach you. That is the job of a father and the man of the house. You and your family simply let your inexperience and heads in the sand alienate him. He was trying to lead his immediate family to safety and liberty and all you could do is fight him on it for your comfort. Such a shame, you all owe him an apology.

@@Spushed It's taken me 30 some odd years to heal from my childhood and have a family of my own that I love. Now that I know what it is to love my wife and kids I can confidently say that what my dad was doing as a husband and father was not based in love. And if something isn't based in love what good can come of it?

@@LivingLifeNorthIdaho I'm not going to ask you to pour out your personal feelings on the matter but what you told us in the video that sounds like I would do the exact same thing, he even saw the writing on the wall before the majority of this country did. I on the other hand was fortunate enough to be born at a later time where it was more obvious to where I can put my family in a place to where they are protected. I have basically done the same exact thing I have moved out of an area that was unsafe that was lawless that was tyrannical in nature. I have made strides in order to prepare our family for any type of disaster being natural or otherwise. How can you say that that is not done with love? It doesn't make sense that those things that he did were done with hate or contempt for his family that just doesn't make sense. You don't have to answer the question but it's just something that I feel strongly on. When a father does something this drastic to ensure the safety of his loved ones, that is done with love. Now did he explain it well enough, probably not as it sounds there is a lot of misgivings on his actions. This, what he did isn't the problem...something deeper. I wish you and your family the best, I pray you can resolve your differences with your father. The last thing anyone needs is regret when it's too late to mend wounds of the past.

Family is the biggest reason I have friends who won't move out of OR or WA. Family is important. People should visit here in the winter and early Spring as summer is short and can give a false impression how it is here most of the year.

Ya family is a major reason I haven't moved yet. I visited twice to look for homes and didn't find anything in my price range that excited me. One that I was most excited about went pending in a matter of a few days. Later found out my mom had some health things going in and could use my help, so not leaving her. I do have a sister up there so that is huge. But even though I lived in NY for several years, Idaho weather does scare me a bit. But for now I'm taking it day by day. But btw all the reasons in the pro lane for moving up there are real. The crazier our world gets the more we long for sanity and a place that hasn't wholesale drank the woke kool-aid.

Hi @Scott Heinz His Place was one of the dozen plus churches my parents took us to over the years. I remember them thinking Pastor Gus and Pastor Doug weren’t “committed” enough in their views so we left in search of something more “biblically based.” Which really meant they didn’t agree with my dads view of what was happening. That was a really great church though. I remember the youth group boat trips with Dave Long. Didn’t love that guy too much but the people that went there were really awesome. Thanks for reminding me of those times. Hope you guys do make it back it someday. Thanks for watching and commenting.

My wife and I fell in love with Idaho in the 90’s after visiting some friends that moved up from So. Cal. We had kids that had friends In So. Cal. We saw what our friends kids went through when they moved. They got picked on at school and by neighbor kids. Kids can be cruel. We didn’t want to put our kids through the same thing. We stayed where we were until the kids got through school. Our daughter joined the Army( a good move for her), our son went into construction. The daughter stayed in Colorado after her hitch was up. My son got married. His wife was in nursing school while they were dating. They got married after she got out of school. She had a friend that she helped moved here and fell in love with the state. My daughter in law applied to A couple of hospitals and got a job. My son had been up here with us a few times and liked it. He beat us up here by a year. We bought land in Bonner’s ferry in 06. We had bad experience with a builder, then other things kept us from building. We found our dream house in Hope a 1/2 mile from the lake. Been here for just a little over three years now with no regrets for leaving the cesspool we escaped from. If you are looking for a perfect place to live you may never find it, but, this place is about as close a place as it gets for people to get away from the leftest garbage in most big cities……

I moved to Idaho and bought a great property and house, but not without making quite a few road trips first. That is the key to moving anywhere. Go there, talk to people, ask some questions. Most people are willing to give their view on some things good or not so good. You can't get a feeling one way or another about any place to move without spending some time there first. Road trips are also a lot easier and cheaper than moving somewhere, then having to move all the way back. In my case it turned out to be the best move I ever made from taking the road trips and actually talking to real people already living there. You can find them in restaurants, stores, people that own a shop or business.

Trent, this is a very powerful testimony you’ve shared which will touch many people thinking of moving to the area for the ‘wrong reasons’ you’ve detailed. I agree with you that these are dangerous times which have maybe only just begun. Learning about your father’s reason for moving you there I thought of the scripture verse by St Paul: “If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing”. I will pray for your dear dad and for your entire family that a reconciliation might be possible. God bless you!

I watch this video listening to the sentiment you are expressing - how right your dad was on so many issues yet how wrong he was on separating the family - and I can't help but wonder if you've reflected on what your future might have been, and what you and your siblings might have become, if your father hadn't separated you from your family? I know people all up and down the west coast, family and friends, none of them are doing too well right now for a large variety of reasons - financial, health, government overreach destroyed their lives. Based on my experience I think there is a high likely hood your lives would have been destroyed and futureless if your father had not chosen to leave for Idaho. It is hard to separate from family yes, but you can only lead a horse to water - you cant' force it to drink. If the family is determined to stay where they are futureless and hopeless than what can you do? It sounds like your father made the right decision and I if I were one of his children I would be eternally grateful for that decision. I would also be sympathetic to his circumstances and understanding of his anger - imagine deciding to save the life and future of your children by sacrificing the connections you have with your own parents and siblings. What a monumental decision. It must of been incredibly difficult for him to do, no wonder he was so angry - the world put him in a circumstance where he had to choose between saving the future of his children or dying with the his old family. I would be angry too.

I just moved my husband (dementia) and I (chronic migraine) from Colorado to rural Michigan. I’m a generational Colorado native. My mom, son, siblings, cousins, everyone is in Colorado besides my daughter and grandchildren. My daughter married a man from the area we moved to. Colorado front range is becoming a metroplex. Increased homeless, drugs in the parks, crime! To many people. So intense now. Going to the mountains is still great but not in the parks during tourist season, which is now all year basically. I miss my home so much but it’s not there anymore. Rural western Michigan is very similar but with water!! We have an acre with a small farm house 15min from my daughter and grandkids. No debt now. Easier living. Did I mention there is water! We have a well with very good water. I’m happy/sad to be here. I’m a southwest desert and mountain girl. The high peaks are my church. We are adjusting. Having water is amazing. I knew it was stressful with the water issues but now I really understand how having water is so calming. No “concrete” ground to deal with. Longer growing season and my migraines are better at low altitude. I miss home but have found new challenges and beauty. Don’t move to change the area you moved to. Become a “native” and respect the land and culture. Enhance not change!

Wow, this is something that really sets you apart from others that post videos on.... well, real estate frankly. Thank you, as this is one of the most important messages out there on this subject of relocating. I know for me I see not many family members left around me and most of them are moving away soon and going in different directions, though still within the PNW. I am conflicted as to where within Idaho I should go because my family's needs are different than what I would really love to do for myself. I want to go real rural or small town and they need walking distance to stores. Oh well. Small town it is I guess, with a not to distant drive to a bigger one, haha. Still, this inner searching and really brutally honest gut check of how much location even plays into one's life and troubles is super important and I've seen others move from place to place thinking that would somehow fix things that are inside of them anywhere they go. Great advice to anyone considering a major move to anywhere, and not necessarily limited to physical location either. Deep down we really can discern truth and being honest with ourselves about that truth is the challenge most of the time.

Dang, this video hits close to home. This is a subject that has really been weighing on me as a Canadian planning to move to the US, and seriously considering Idaho, for ALL the political/cultural reasons you mentioned. I don't ever want to make decisions based out of the spirit of fear, but also want to be responsible in planning a safe, sane place for my family to plant roots long term. I can definitely have compassion towards the heart of your father, and I appreciate the warning not to go down that same road that he did.
@kc4091 Жыл бұрын
Ya while the fear thing is real, and you don't want to live your entire life based on it, fear can also be what saves us in certain circumstances. If it is looking like current location is getting more violent for example, and feeling unsafe to go out at night, that's no way to live. Is there fear? Sure. But also practical survival and quality of life would be the reason to leave such a place. The thing is better to leave such a place before it gets so bad you can't sell house. So at some point you just have make a call that's best for your situation. I'm in the middle right now due to family.

Having 8 generations in the area, and nearing retirement I can without a doubt say that the area has completely changed from what it used to be. The ideology that has been imported to the area is NOT how it was. I speak with many many long time residence and they agree. The ultra conservative stuff is just weird and really foreign to most locals, and I mean people who are descendent of pioneers. So saying that people move here for this ideology is actually an imported idea. So in fact many long time local are moving away. It has been altered beyond recognition. Not only is it VERY expensive, really low quality schools. Health care is really bad, and I speak with health care providers all the time. Some of the local hospitals have over 80 percent temporary staff and doctors are in fact leaving. There are still a few out of the way places that aren’t too bad but the majority have been taken over by a very bizarre rich narrow minded group that locals really don’t like or appreciate. There are some stunningly beautiful places for sure. But leave your twisted mentality out of it. The people I grew up with call it Hollywood North. Meaning out of touch overly rich small minded tweaks that have ruined some of the best locations. Fortunately I know enough of these locations and there are still a few gems. But I won’t say where they are. What people move up to this regions for is in fact long gone now. What has replaced it leaves most locals with a bad impression. Sad to see, it use to be a pretty cool area. I am about as local as they come. Descendent of the first 50 families who were pioneers in the region, only the native population can have more of a claim to the region. The fantasy doesn’t exist any more and what pope, moving to the region will get is scorn from true locals and end up hanging around other imports and there ideology. Further isolating themselves from everyone. It’s too late for north Idaho the damage has been done.

We are sorry to hear it did not work out for some people BUT we do NOT think that has anything to do with you or your videos!!! You tell people in just about every video you make that N. Idaho MAY not be the place for a person and you then present things to think about. It is up to the person watching the videos to make their own decision. I don't know why these people moved there and then decided to move back. Maybe they missed their families, which is something only the person can decide, and they may have needed to move away before they realized that. Maybe it was FOMO and they made an emotional based decision. Those are things you cannot control. There is nothing MORE you could do / say in your videos. The rest is up to the person. You are one source of data (a great one albeit) but if they want to move there, there are a ton of other resources to allow them to do their due diligence. Apparently, they did not do that or did not do it well enough, BUT that is not something you should take on your shoulders. You present FACTS and let your viewers decide. That is the way it should be and that is why we love your channel!!! In our opinion, you have one of THE BEST channels about living in N. Idaho we have seen, hands down!!! If we did not already have a great realtor, you would be our first call! We look forward to all your videos! Keep up the great work! We hope to run into you someday soon out there! Have a great day!!!

Trent, I'm sorry you've had to deal with so many family challenges. Re: the sorry current state of affairs. I can't help mention that things were far worse in many ways in the 60s thru the 80s. I was born in Nampa in 1957 and left in 1976 for the Army and the GI Bill. During my first 20 years in wonderful rural Idaho I had to "duck and cover" and watch the Soviets amaze in space. Then I got to see my grade school teachers cry while listening to a tiny transistor radio broadcasting news of President Kennedy's death. I watched BW TV as dogs were turned lose on people just trying to vote. Medgar Evers, Malcom X, Dr. King, and Sen. Robert Kennedy were all assassinated within 5 short years. Multiple cities burned with riots. Chicago Democratic convention riots. A decade+ of nightly watching body counts and combat footage from Vietnam while my older brother/friends checked their draft numbers, several showed up in obituaries. And Four Dead in Ohio. Airline hijackings and endless hot Arab-Israeli wars. Munich. Tehran. Gas lines, recessions, and runaway inflation followed--my VA mortgage was 11%. President Reagan's free cheese lines were welcomed by unemployed families in the 80s. On a positive note, I have practiced medicine and cared for sick and dying infants and children whose diseases are no longer seen in vaccinated children.

What advice would you have for someone who plans to move to ID, but only half of the family would be moving as well (my parents and one of my in-laws)? While the other half either stays spread out across CA or are in other states themselves - even across the country. We love our family but not sure how much moving would impact the dynamic since we are already so spread out? My two best friends live in ID and WA. ID aligns with our worldviews and it truly feels like home away from home! Thank you for being honest and sharing your personal story!

Hi @Rayanna Glazier moving to a new place almost always puts distance between family and friends. And that’s not a reason to not move. I think what would have been better for us is it have family reunions, several trips to see your friends and family through the year and keep communication consistent. I’m glad my family moved to Idaho. I love it here. But letting beliefs, fears and worldview dictate every relationship is where things start to get out of balance. Be sure to make a plan for keeping your relationships and gauge how realistic that plan is.

I could agree with you on the sense of family, however, you must choose between family and basic fundamental principles of moral and ethical conduct. I have banned my own children from my property because their moral and ethical center is contrary to mine. To censor those who are immoral and unethical is our duty because without a common moral and ethical center we have no society. I have made my way my whole life and have earned the respect of even my enemies. Why? Because I simply do not compromise on my basic fundamental principles of my moral and ethical center. I will never compromise even for family. I don’t need support because I can stand on my own two feet and will not compromise my moral standards.

THANK YOU for this video. I wish I could give it ten likes instead of one. Thank you for having the courage to open up about your personal situation. Thank you for explaining right reasons and wrong reasons to move. This is far, far better than the typical realtor video who just wants everyone to move and buy. I am of pre-retirement age. My wife and I live in California. Our politics and religion are strongly conservative. Like many of you, I definitely don't like what's going on in California and in our country. Two years ago I visited North Idaho on vacation. I liked it, but my problem was... does God really want us there? What you say (and I have also benefited from the City Prepping channel) was right - where are the people who you love, who make life worth living? We have two adult children who (for now) live here. My wife has family here. We love church and have friends there, as well as meaning and purpose. Therefore I now feel that we should not move unless the people who matter to us are moved away, or the church is closed, or if conditions actually become so dangerous and threatening so that we just plain have to move - in other words, if there's nothing here for us. Until then I will still watch videos from you and others. If we do move I am partial to Lewiston (which we visited) as a nice quiet place to retire to, nice people, reasonably affordable, hospital, and it doesn't feel as California-ized and touristy as Coeur d'Alene did to us. Boise felt almost the same as LA or any metropolis, complete with a lot of social wildness. At 69 years old I don't need a bar scene or a sexual-kinky mass bike ride through the town (which I personally witnessed there). So if we do move it will be Lewiston. But if not, we'll live here, die here, and be buried in the plots that we have already purchased. God bless you.

When the transplants move back to wherever they came from, will that hurt the economy of north Idaho? Or make it better?
@LivingLifeNorthIdaho7 ай бұрын
That’s a pretty big hypothetical. If it happened in a short timeframe, it would absolutely crush our economy. But I think the likelihood of that happening is about the same as all Europeans decedents going back to their home country.

Another great video Trent! My dad was a commercial real estate broker as well when I was growing up. We live in South Carolina but it’s changing so much due to everyone moving down from the northeast and voting in their bad policies. We talk about packing up and moving to Idaho someday.

I have noticed that people on both the Left and the Right are angry people. One of the many reasons I bailed politics altogether. Sadly these folks are missing out on the beauty of life and they are wasting precious time.

This may not be the most relevant video for this particular comment, but it is related. I believe that for most of us our passion over our political views and positions that are driving us more away from where we are than towards Idaho will likely soften as we are no longer being so assaulted with all that insanity in our faces every day. I think for most of us just being away from all that allows us to not feel so reactionary and confrontational over all this. So I think many of us would be likely a lot more enjoyable and friendly all around in a place where we feel less fear, conflict, and tension. That's what I look forward to most in terms of change in environment. I'm not one to normally post a Trump 2024 sign in my yard but just knowing I can safely do so without risk of my house being burned down is a peace of mind that has a lot of value to it. Ironically living in a place where you can do that makes me less inclined to want to than being somewhere that I can't. In western WA. I feel inclined to want to declare my freedom and conservative values boldly, while in eastern WA. it's very accepted and thus I feel no desire to do so. So I forsee myself in Idaho being just a guy and not a "right-winger" or an "Ultra-MAGA patriot". I just want to not be self censoring about what I divulge about myself when talking with a stranger. For those that don't live in a very blue area you may not know what that's like. I hope you never will. :)

You'll do alright in Idaho if: You are extraordinarily wealthy. If you're an ordinary working class person with an aversion to probable homelessness (followed immediately by incarceration), Idaho is not an ideal state for you.

I've lived in CDA for one year. Your videos are spot on in terms of describing what it's like here. If someone moved here because of your videos and then realized it wasn't right for them, then that is on them. They must have not listened to what you were saying in the videos because you have described it perfectly.

I appreciate this, but I wish you had first hand experience of how bad these blue states have become. I've had 9 shootings within 100 yards of me in the last 2 year in south king county Washington. Don't move to feel right, for sure, but moving for fear of your safety seems logical. I would just hope all that move learn from the political corruption causing the harm in their old states and vote accordingly.
