Great video. You take your Catalina everywhere. Not being a blue water boat, how do you think she fares in the ocean? I was thinking of taking my C25 in the Gulf of Mexico near the coast from Tampa to Key West.

If you want to do sailing in the gulf, the biggest consideration is picking weather window and try to only be out in safe conditions. Be sure your rig (everything that holds the mast up) is well maintained and adjusted properly. Avoid any situation where you don't have access to safe harbor if a storm does pop up, like I would not try to do a 5 day passage 100 miles off shore. Generally is is said that the boat can handle more than the crew. If everything in your boat is in proper working order that would probably be the case, but if things go bad don't be too far away from a safe harbor. So I would say, go for it! Have a good life jacket, SOS device, jacklines, and a tether. And plan lots of extra days so you can spend time in the harbor waiting for the next weather window. Don't be in a rush. Good luck!
