Will you be assisting the veterinary surgeon with the de-briding trim around the infected collateral cartilage or will they do it under general aesthetic behind closed doors? Vets probably feel that it needs to be an aggressive trim to clean up the quittor but some vets wave around their hoof knife like Bruce Lee & then the farrier is left with the suppurating & bloody aftermath of that exposed & sensitive medial ground surface , to the point that a full support heart bar is then needed to be applied.
@carolr78234 ай бұрын

You did an amazing job on that shoe. WOW the size of that hoof just blew me away! I sure hope the vet can successfully clean out the infection. Will the hoof regrow and look normal again or is this permanent damage? Also why did they cut the horse’s tail? Will it also grow back?? Beautiful horse either way! Would like a follow up on this one.
@annaabney14204 ай бұрын
His tail has been docked. The actual tail was cut off short, not just the hair. Unfortunately docking is still a common practice among old school draft horse breeders. They falsely believe having a natural tail puts the horse at risk of having it caught in the harness or the vehicle they are pulling.

The thing I find most interesting about the farrier practice is that even though technology has provided a lot more convenience in the way of tools and instruments, it appears as though the basic technique hasn't changed much over the course of about 200 years or so. I mean I'm not even qualified to be called an amateur but as a casual observer, that's my first reaction.
