I am not a gas engineer by trade but followed your procedure for testing voltage to igniter unit and it was good at 240v so went to my local plumbing center and purchased a new igniter and low and behold I have the blue light of happiness again! Thanks so much for your video. I will pay someone gas safe to change electrode etc for peace of mind ;)

Good video,well presented, can I ask you have 230v at the plug to the spark gen. is there a way of then proving the actual spark gen thus leading you to electrodes and/or their leads? Hope that makes sense. Again thanks for making.

Hiya mate - i use a spark gen tester. They’re about a fiver or so and come in so handy. This sort of thing… www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121981403812

Nice one Pete, I was given one of them at Baxi a few years ago but tbh I thought it was only useful for seeing if there was a spark when you obviously couldn't physically see inside the combustion chamber, never dawned on me that it was actually proving the SG. I want move more into breakdowns as the body starts to give up but want know what I'm doing and not try wing it. Top man,defo subbed.

If you get water heating but no main heating, make sure the temperature reciever(links to temperature setting on stairs or whereever) (ours is located next to the water pump) is switched on, usually a green light indicates it.

Todays one had a good spark gen but nothing after so checked the electrodes & it was broken.it can be tested by using an insulated screwdriver in the hole that the electrodes lead plugs into on the generator to visibly see the spark being made or not.
Need a tactic to beat the wife at chess... we’re both equally amateurishly average but she beats me everytime - so frustrating... will be spending an hour or two on your channel soon! 😂

@@petegasguy thanks mate, just wondered as it got a bit pricy.. The other thing I did notice (after the fix) is that the hot water gets hot in about 30 seconds. Before it stopped completely it was taking around 2-3 mins to get warm (& I’d need to reset at least once every time..) So maybe that was all mounting up..?
@petegasguy3 ай бұрын
@@mrtc29about £300 ish i’d imagine. If you dont mind i’ll reserve judgement on the diagnosis… it sounds like an odd one though. Pcb’s tend to just fail and rarely give intermittent faults that can be reset. But - not seen it so hard to question the guy

@@petegasguy ok mate, yeah I understand 👍 And you’re really not far off with the price (inc call out charge) he did also ‘service’ it for that too (I.E checked all the pipes were clear etc. gave everything a clean) Anyways all sorted now (& for sometime to come I hope..) Depends when he did it… 6pm xmas eve then you got a bargain. Saturday a cheap… a tuesday after the job had been pre-booked then perhaps a little steep. I can see why some lads charge that if thats the going rate in the area/time
