The ATS enclosure is aluminum, so magnetic chip catcher didn't work in this instance.

Thank you for the explanation of the ATS lugs. Gotta love the hand held bandsaw. What is up with the tails on the LV control wires? IS that just to keep them from fraying? I think this has been my favorite episode so far.

Question: Should the neutral wire that passes through the main load center be identified as such? It would seem to me that at a minimum that would be "good practice". I didn't see it done as the wires went from the meter-main over to the transfer switch, just passing through the main load center.

the perfect way is to crimp a spade connector, but yes, this is what is needed when landing stranded under a bolt head.

It's all up to the judges. They decide who did the best. I'm not sure what the deciding factor was as they don't make it public.

This would not pass inspection in Canada. The neutral would be required to be switched at the ATS to avoid any potential getting back to the utility to protect the lineman working to solve the outage.

In the US if the neutral is switched by the ats it's a separately derived system an reqires a separate grounding electrode system. If they are connected together and not switched the grounding electrode system of the house grounds the neutrals. This is legal in the NEC

Well it would as long as it doesn't exceed conduit fill but it seems less complicated with shorter feeder runs the way they did it.

@@SparkyChannel yup, they were only supplied with 2" I suppose. They could change things up by making the contestants figure out conduit & wire sizes, which fittings to use, etc... It all seems a bit mechanical right now.

Well that "chip collector" was worthless. How unrealistic is having a bunch of osb cladding rather than stucco chickenwire and styrofoam hiding studs on 20" centers? Do you get to use your own tools? Looks fun.

The ATS was made of aluminum so the magnets in the chip collector were not effective when drilling the hole in the ATS.

No... the conduit is PVC not metal, therefore installing grounding bushings is unnecessary.

It doesn't matter in a single phase setup, if it had been 3 pause then yes you would want the utility power and generator to be in phase with each other
