A vintage 1960 Mr Machine by Ideal Toy Corporation. Mr Machine was wildly popular when he made his appearance. Ideal quickly adopted him as their logo mascot. And you know the rest..."Its a Wonderful Toy! It's IDEAL!" The Designer, Marvin Glass said he designed Mr Machine to mimick the actions of a hen pecked husband squawking and wildly waving his hands as he wanders around in his plight.

omg! this is the first Memory for me of ever getting a toy as a kid. i remember my father handed me a box in Christmas wrapping and he sat me down in front of him and let me open it and the joy that toy put on my face and his was complete bliss . they do not make toys like this anymore sadly and i wish they would.

I had one of these, and it was my favorite. I used to take him apart and reassemble him and marvel at how he worked so well. I miss him.

Mr. Machine is the reason I became a mechanical designer! I still have my 1978 re-issue that my grandparents bought for us to have a toy to play with whenever we visited them... Or maybe my folks are the real reason it always stayed at my grand parent's house... Either way, it's a good thing it did otherwise it wouldn't have survived this long...

Finally! I finally got to hear how he sounded. I distinctly remember that little little grinding sound he made every few seconds, when he'd open his mouth. I wish I still had mine. I got one in 1960 and when I tried to take mine apart and put him back together...that was the end of him. : (

I had one of these when I was 9yo. I liked it because you could take him apart and put him back together again, instructions were included, even a small screwdriver. He was reissued about 1979 or 1980, but because of our government thought he contained small parts, he could not be taken apart. Go figure. Thanks CPSD.

I got one of these when I was like 3 or 4. Thought it was the most awesome thing ever. One day shortly after I got it I seen it on top of the kitchen refrigerator. My mom said it broke and she needed to send it back to be repaired. I didnt like that but I understood it and disappointingly waited. I never seen it again. Think it was driving my parents crazy and they returned it to the store, lol

Nice you have an original issue "Mr. Machine"! I recall the ads on TV from when I was about 5. Just spotted one in the local antiques shop y'day; I'll have to go look at it more closely, but I think it's one of the newer replicas; I think it has the blue, plastic wind up key, and a white plastic "bolt-nose" (instead of a proper metal one)! What fun!!

Mine used to whistle.. I guess that was the "70s reissue"? it got on my moms nerves something fierce. I have no idea what happened to it. I think it got buried in my toybox when I discovered Atari. one day I just didnt have it anymore

@dezurtdude Actually, the fact that it looks like a creepified, robotic version of Abraham Lincoln that is going to consume my soul attracted my attention. The noise just attracted my desire to smash it into a thousand pieces

The whole point is that he walks, so what do you do? You hold him up, let him walk in the air, and for two seconds, you put him on the table. Huh?

This was all he did, which is why I got tired of him pretty quickly in 1960. I have to say that now, he seems rather malevolent.
