Identity can be an ambiguous and shifting thing. We often carry multiple identities at the same time. What does this mean for global citizens and their daily interactions?
Byrad Yyelland | Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar | Research interests include emotion in the workplace, organizational culture change, and identity as well as serial murderers and vampirism in society | Offers free classes in shito-ryu karate M/W evenings.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self- organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

I, too, had the privilege of having Byrad as a professor (in the mid-90s). His lectures were always fantastic. It was great to hear him speak again.

Wow! Time warp! I am a returning student (working on a Bachelor of Social Work degree through U of R) currently writing an autobiography for my Indigenous Studies class on Oral Tradition and referenced how Byrad inspired me to major in Soc back in 92 at U of S. I did my first big paper for him on racism and received it back with the words "Brilliant, superior work! 96%" handwritten in red pen. Watching this video was just as enthralling and charismatic as one of his lectures then. Great orator!

Identities are not only transitive, they are contextual. If you know the context, you can predict the identities of actors and agents.

A simple idea with a lot of ramifications. Should be in schools . . .every year! It's about how we learn!

*This man doesn't realize that what he's explaining is also an identity,he's like everyone else who thinks that he has the absolute truth.*
