Students who are complaining that they are being assigned this for school...please watch this CRITICALLY. This is not a video about how to design things but rather an example of the California Ideology-a way of thinking popularized 20 years ago that has caused a lot of the problems facing us now. The process of "design thinking" that it is describing isn't all bad/or all good. Rather it is your job to think about whether or not it is the BEST WAY to go about designing things. What does it mean to glean ideas from a Harvard MBA and a Biology Major (both white able-bodied young men) instead of professional designers or literally anybody else???? What are the values being expressed here?

It would be racist if a company were more interested in finding the right mix of skin color than focusing on the diversity of ideas like IDEO is doing here because people that might otherwise be right for the position will be rejected in the name of not satisfying racial diversity measures. It's sort of ironic in its own damned way. I would only argue with IDEO if they were trying to weed out minorities, but no one would be able to tell that.

@@Zennesto It doesn't really matter where you go to learn design theory because that has nothing to do with the correctness of your opinion in the matter. I like the example of the sensor activated faucets. You are incorrect in assuming that because there were no people with dark skin on their team that they would have thought of this. What they failed to do was properly test their product. They would have caught the error before it went out had they had a black person on their team, but they would also have caught the error if they had tested it properly on all types of people. Yes, I personally agree with you on the fact that people of different races come from different backgrounds and have different experiences to bring with them. But also, you are judging the IDEO team too harshly by claiming that they are not diverse enough because "they are all white people". What if someone grew up in a black neighborhood and understands their struggles? What if someone was adopted by latino parents and grew up speaking spanish. Are you going to say they are not diverse enough because "not enough different skin color"? It is far too shallow an ideal to make a judgement that determines the lives of others.
