This is one of my go to videos - she teams so well with the pianist.

I love Idina, but the only positive thing I can say about this performance is that I like her dress. They've taken a beautiful song and changed the arrangement and made it into a half-assed Broadway song. Petula Clark's version is beautiful and so is Maureen O'Hara's.

I'm afraid I have to agree. I'm all for reinventing something, and this standard can certainly stand up to it. But you have to make sense of the lyric. And her choices dynamite the lines into fragments and there is no organic feeling for where the emphasis should go. It is all completely random. Great singing, thought. But not a great interpretation.

Does anyone else think that Idina sorta sounds like the actress who plays Bernadette on The Big Bang Theory? I think her name is Melissa Rausch?

I think the issue here is only partly the arrangement; if you look at Irish songs in particular, the "Irish tenor" artists show that one can pull off Irish folk in operatic mode. I'd tend to agree that it's not in itself especially well written, but I think there's also a fatal mismatch here between the arrangement and the performer. Ms. Menzel is talented, but this kind of operatic delivery is not the best use of that talent.

I grew up with the 1968 Fred Astaire/ Petula Clark version of this song and as much as I love Idina I'm afraid she ruined this song

+dragos It's just such a lovely melody and beautiful, understated lyric, why do so many singers today feel they have to do the diva thing in every song? No sensitivity. I respect Idina too, but... geez.

Gosh I hate when artists change the melodies that master songwriters slaved over. Could have been great. Instead it dies on the stage.

I disagree. This is her rendition, and truthfully she didn't butcher it. So please leave it alone.
