Actually, that's not true. The population of the US grew massively through 19th-20th migration from Europe. This demographic change is also viewed in the racial demographics of the US (with the % of black people dropping quite a lot during that period, due to the massive influx from Europe). The US + Canada had a population of about 1-2 million in 1800 (for reference, France had 24 million - although France at that time had a relatively large population; hence also their success during the Napoleonic Wars and ability to wage war against multiple countries). That's really not a lot. Migration to the US in this migration period had a lot to do with the political upheaval and, in particular, the revolutions taking place in Europe. Many Germans for example migrated to the US after the dissolution of the Frankfurt Parliament (which was an attempt to establish a democratic German nation-state - see March Revolution). I give the example of Germans, since German is actually the most common ancestry among Americans. There are also a lot of Poles (fleeing the autocratic Russian monarchy; as did many Russians by the way) after their attempt to establish and independent state in 1830 for example etc. Some also came to the US for economic reasons (particularly around the time of the Second Industrial Revolution - 1870s onwards). The fact that England - but also other regions like the Netherlands and Norway - seem so overrepresented probably has a lot to do with how often they record these incidents and also put them online.
