I suspect many of the tourists can't read the sign - they might know some English, but 'reins'? Or haven't seen the sign. But I don't think that makes it excusable. The reins are clearly the guard's, just as one doesn't touch the wheel of the taxi driver. Unfortunately, I think there are some who see the sign and deliberately try to find out what will happen if they DO touch the reins. Like a dare.

A sure-fire way to fix this is to allow the soldiers to use their swords to protect their horses and themselves. After one or two were used as an example, people would figure out real fast not to mess with the horses or King's Guard and they'd learn to respect them again.

Grabbing those reigns is equivalent to someone grabbing your steering wheel while fying down the highway bc some, if not most of those horses weight 1/2 ton or more! Thank you for this. As a former dog owner, I was irritated, how strange people patted my dog on the head, something he was clearly uncomfortable with. Kids were more open to lecturing them, that dogs don’t like that much being patted on the head, but neck scratches are cool. They followed that pretty fast, and seemed to enjoy both.

He transferred his sword to his left (reins-holding) hand so he could reach down and take the letter. He read it and smiled and nodded at her before tucking it into his saddle and resumed his sword-on-guard position. Priceless.......

I am Japanese, but Japan has its own problems with tourists' manners. At a shrine near my home, Chinese pee on the traditional gate and Westerners break the bell of the shrine. Because of this, the regulations are getting stricter and stricter, and the locals can no longer enjoy themselves. There are people that didn’t know the rules; they learned their lesson: Always check the rules of the places you’re going to/you are at. But there are other people that intentionally decide not to follow the rules, people that are irresponsible, stubborn, ill-mannered, disrespectful, and behave like spoiled brats; they were taught a much needed lesson. In the 15 months spent in Afghanistan, met a couple of UK troopers, who did ceremonial duty like this, so yes they are actual soldiers and was told all of them are experienced professional soldiers. Many especially the palace or queens guards are from elite units in the British military. Funny thing was they always said (amongst themselves in privater of course, that they all wanted to beat the crap out of these people) So they are normal dudes like everyone else.

As a Equestrian, it is already mind-boggling to me that people think it's ok to touch any horses reins that isn't theirs, but to touch the reins of a horse that literally has a trained soldier on its back is just truly unfathomable to me. Especially if you keep doing it after repeatedly being told off/warned by the rider and the horse. Humanity keeps surprising me, but sadly not in a good way.

At best, it was nervousness of the moment, at worst,nails go everywhere when someone take her picture Right, the reason was that nobody realized it happened, the lady didnt, the guard didnt see from his angle, only the poor horse knew. It's really unfair of people to go up and touch the horses like this in the first place, but that eye poke really annoyed me. Horses are incredibly intelligent creatures and usually don't do well around any number of people, let alone crowds of shouting/screaming people with traffic etc. all going on in the background. It's obvious that the horses have been very well trained to withstand that kind of environment and sensory overload, but that doesn't mean it's not incredibly uncomfortable for the horse. People have 0 consideration for the actual animal itself, and the body language of the horse is very clearly, at times, saying "get out of my personal space right now"
