Hello. Does this update the sat nav functionality ? Does this also update the actual maps themselves to latest maps ?

So far the only I have noticed is 3D map for iconic buildings such as London Shard etc. This indicates that it also updated current road map for example new road layouts. The BMW map is not as accurate as Google Map but it worth updating.

Hi, I made a retrofit on my F20 to install Apple CarPlay. Now, I can’t use Check Control, and my screen doesn’t show Hour. What do you think? Can I make an another installation of the iDrive 6 software?

If your vehicle does not support idrive 6, it will not work. If you really want your original data, I think you will need to install by removing retrofit. Let me know if you manage to get a solution as I’m curious too!!

Have you owned the vehicle yourself from new? I would suggest you to follow the process and if it says it’s already up to date then your sorted.

Does updating the software help with errors and malfunctions like instrument cluster and park brake malfunction?

This update helps with idrive Bluetooth connectivity, maps etc. I have done a dedicated video how you can code or remove malfunction like breaks service lights. I will leave a link in the description.

I don’t think this will change the screen size. The update is more towards glitches, Bluetooth, map etc

Updating idrive mainly resolves connectivity and other aspects of idrive. I have noticed my map showing 3D building when traveling through central london. Give an attempt and even if it does not update, you have no loss.

I need help , my 2015 328i M Performance doesn't have maps or navigation. I have tried downloading updates from BMW into a flash drive ( well formatted) but nothing , I don't even have the "software upgrade" option available to click and when I go to maps it doesn't have a version so it looks like it didn't have any installed. If your apple CarPlay is built in to your BMW and it’s not retrofit then you will not loose it.

By updating software it will not give you apple carplay. You will be able to purchase apple CarPlay from BMW connect after updating software if your vehicle is compatible.

hi please I need your help... I have a BMW 116d 2012 f20 and before everything was working ok.. Bluetooth connectivity telephone Usb and aux but now I can't access any of those when I go to aux no sound comes out and when I go to the aux on the idrive the volume is on 0 and can not be turned up nomatter how I try to turn it up. the only sound am able to get on my idrive is the radio stations with 100% sound. Will it help if I update my software or do u have any other idea on this?

Hi Norman, by the sound of your description, you may have hardware problems and due to age of your vehicle BMW may have discontinued updates. There is no harm in trying. I would suggest to restart your idrive before updating. I have another video on this channel how to Reboot

This method works for older vehicles and software depends on model/age. I think idrive 6 is for newer vehicles and updates are done remotely.

Your vehicle should have Bluetooth capabilities, by updating idrive software could make it work but no guarantees. Also double check if your setting is correct and ticked for audio.

I don’t think you can get new idrive but you can get android operating system which also has BMW CarPlay. This will cost you a lot. Type on KZbin android idrive BMW.

Hi there friend, you were recommended to me by a guy at work, he's been following you, as I do now and said I shoukd see if you would know about my BM problem so even if you're too busy I thank you for taking time to read this,.. I have a 2010 E63.. The battery died and it has killed my idrive concroller and all the buttons around it. The screen comes and I can use the CD and preset FM radio but anything that uses the idrive controller is dead. Someone said take the negative off the battery and re boot it, that didn't work.. My mates brother put a code reader on it and I came up with error code E1CD, but there's nothing on the Web.. I'm trying to work out if the controller is duff, if it is then fair enough but I don't want to change it and its something else.. The screen starts up normally but stays locked as nothing will move using the stick and buttons.. It seems weird how it went off when the battery died.. If you have any ideas I wouikd really be great full.. Thank you for your time I really appreciate it.. Regards... James

Hi James, I’m afraid, I’m not familiar with this error message. Have you attempted erasing the error E1CD code from the ECU? Some error codes are permanently until replaced hardware, they won’t come off. It worth visiting a technician to get it professionally checked before considering the unit to be replaced.

Live weather and traffic is available but I think you will need to have bmw connected. I have all these capabilities due to bmw connected drive and built in sim in the vehicle. Hope this helps.

Have you formatted the usb correctly? Some vehicles are updated automatically by BMW if you have BMW connect package.

Yes this has updated my map. For live traffic this works for me because I have annual subscription on my vehicle with BMW connect. Spotify does not work on my BMW as it’s not supported on my idrive.

If your bmw has no subscription for idrive, the bmw site wont accept the VIN! Only dealer can alter software and settings.

To be honest I’m not sure if your CarPlay will still be there but if it came with your vehicle natively, I would assume CarPlay should remain regardless of the software update. Have you attempted contacting BMW for their thoughts?

I think it’s best to use your VIN - the software maybe tailored to your vehicle. My vehicle is plug-in hybrid so not sure if it would be any useful.

The reference number maybe unique to each vehicle model. You can attempt using other people’s VIN but if it deletes other things from your model, it will be very hard for you to recover it. In my opinion I wouldn’t suggest you to use other VIN.

I would suggest you to contact your nearest BMW to see if they can do software update remotely. If it’s too expensive you will have to keep trying this method.

Hey! BMW will not let me download the link as it says my VIN is up to date. I’m not able to set my clock and I’ve tried all iDrive reset tricks to no avail. 2014 328d wagon. Holding power button for 30+ seconds will not reset iDrive. I’ve also tried all other tips on multiple reset methods

When you say the clock, you mean time right? If yes, in the drive setting, there is an option where you can set automatic time and it resets itself. Regarding idrive update, BMW may have discontinued updating it.

I just took my car in because I got a notice I was eligible for a technology update to support 4g . They are Discontinuing the 3G service and you will lose your connected drive features if you don’t go for this update. They did the update for the hardware for 4G but strangely they did not update the software in the car so I was really kind of surprised that this.
