Brought to you by Jake Wardle at www.jakewardle.com. A humorous imagining of what Americans would sound like if they spoke British English. I put on a standard American accent and say a load of common British words and phrases. It's clear some of these words were not meant for the American tongue.
Translations are too long for KZbin's video description limit so will be posted in a pinned comment instead.
[EDIT] Some information for those of you who are unable to grasp the context of this video and are taking it too seriously:
I'm not a real American (as I mentioned above). I am a Brit from East London putting on an American accent to add a humorous twist to this video. I'm also an actor so I'm glad so many of you found it convincing.
To address some of the following types of comments:
"I'm English/British and haven't heard of/I don't say most/any of these words" - Well I am too but I have heard of all of them and use most of them. Maybe you don't say all of these words in certain parts of the UK but we do in East London (at least in my social circle) so they're still valid.
"This is older generation English no one talks like this anymore" - I'm 25 (yes, I know I look younger) and I as well as most of my mid 20s friends use or are at least familiar with all of these words (except some of the Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish ones). Maybe we're just old school Londoners but not every young person talks like a chav/roadman.
"No one says [specific British word]" - Again, maybe not in your part of the UK but in mine we do.
"I'm from the north and I don't speak like that/there are different types of northerners (Yorkshire/Scousers etc)" - Of course not all northerners structure their sentences like that. I used an extreme and generalised example because it sounded funny in an American accent. My northern friends got the joke. Addressing all the other types of northerners would be a whole video in itself. I just wanted to do a quick nod up north for a laugh.
"No such thing as British English it's just English" - I know a lot of you saying this are just being snobby or bantering because English originated in England. For those of you who are serious it doesn't change the fact that we speak English differently here than in other parts of the world. British English is the official name of the DIALECT not the language itself. It's an actual thing (look it up). Besides, the video title would sound pretty shit if it said 'If Americans spoke English' which they already do except the name of their set of dialects is called American English.
Finally, I am aware some of the words used are interchangeable between the UK and US depending on the region. I was going for the words that are more commonly used differently as whole.
Thank you.
[EDIT] Idiots are still not getting it so I had to add parody in the title. Do I need to spell it out even more?
